Why did you stop being a trebuchet?

ok.

8"
Will you tell us 3 things about your life that you generally don't tell to people you hardly know?
I generally don't tell anyone I hardly know anything. However since I've been here for a while:
1. I lived on a sailboat during High School.
2. My wife and I are in a polyamorous relationship.
3. I've been with three prositutes.
Why did you stop being a trebuchet?
Because Trebuchet was my WP moniker simply for the reason I couldn't use the word Bitch.
-
How long have you and your wife been together? Have you always had a poly relationship?
-
How long have you and your wife been together? Have you always had a poly relationship?
We've been married for three years, and together for seven. No, haven't always had a poly relationship. Although we've always been very open and honest with each other about such things.
-
why?
-
why?
Here we are, trapped in the amber of the moment. There is no why.
-
when are you *cough* coming to the UK? :eyelash:

when are you *cough* coming to the UK? :eyelash:
Actually, [name removed] was invited to London to stay with her boyfriend for a week. We almost went, but just couldn't afford it since she just got back from San Francisco, we had that trip to Vegas, and she had been out of work for all that time. Maybe we'll be able to afford it after things get settled down.

:eyelash:

:eyelash:
I see london, I see france...

... i see my bedroom ceiling...

tackyyyyyyyyyyy! but you can do the camerawork, if you like. :-*
kay.
I just got my camera back from being fixed. I'm itching to take some shots.
-
shots?! i don't want you to shoot him, woman! not unless he's crap.
-
shots?! i don't want you to shoot him, woman! not unless he's crap.
I thought she wanted the dead? ???
-
nah. you're posting in the mirror.
besides, i only want certain people dead. (mostly everybdy, true). and that's not cos i want to fuck them, it's because i want them to be dead.
-

I do everything else there,
so what's wrong with that?
Anyhow, I think you're a prude.
If you never tried a little necrophilia,
how can you know it's bad?
-
i've never tried throwing myself under a train, either, but some things you can just tell...
::)
-
i've never tried throwing myself under a train, either, but some things you can just tell...
::)
I tried. It sucked. Ended up passed out
in a ditch. Nowhere near what I expected.
-
You could always try again.
-
You could always try again.
Well, actually I did. Didn't even make it to the
tracks that time. Passed out in a field, and woke
up covered in my own biles. Lost a hat that I love
too. Kind of a warning to stop fucking with such
things, I'd guess.
Sucks to be immortal.
-
You could always try again.
:LMAO: :plus:
yeah - we'd help, wouldn't we, PI?
-
Certainly- I have some strong rope- we could skip the uncertainty of having him jump under it and just tie him to the tracks. >:D
-
can i drive the train? can i, can i?!!
-
Only if I can ride up front with you so I can get a good view.
-
you can take the pictures. :evillaugh:
-
Sounds like fun >:D
-
but this is tesla's thread - we should be talking about sex! :o
-
We could fuck once we've killed him?
-
i really, really wish i hadn't just plussed you, cos that's worth at least 3.
:-* :eyebrows:
-
Who needs the karma anyway? :-*
-
can i drive the train? can i, can i?!!
oh, another train. can i join?
-
no, you voyeur. :P

toot. toot.

Not much of an art fan... maybe Ando Hiroshige.

Ignore this question if its too personal but have you and your wife ever shared sexual partners?

No. Wanna teach me? :eyebrows:
i have never had homosexual sex before. but i am intrigued by the idea.
you?
-
I think I can answer both of you with the same statement.
Sex with a man doesn't really interest me. Although, I could probably be coerced if the person and situation were right.

Fixed.
You asking me? I like Benny and Joon, Spokane, meeting men (I think I found one to strick with for awhile because I like him a lot and we get along great and think a like and share the same symptoms) fluorescent lights, Aspergers, PDD-NOS, and Autism. I have been asking about those too in the ask away threads and talked about them in other threads.

What do you like most about Nikola Tesla?
His imagination.
-
why are you now MercyFuck?
you've confused me! :bigcry: i need... consolation. :eyelash: :-*
-
I was wondering that myself- is a mercy fuck like a pity fuck?
-
or does he need mercy showing towards him?
oh dear - i only do justice, not mercy. that must mean i'm out of the running. :bigcry:
-
Trying to think of a pic for his pattern as I have done for others but I can't.
Oh, good. Sounds like fun! Now that you've said this you must share them all.
-
MercyFuck is a name I used to use on another forum. From the Soul Coughing song "4 out of 5".
Her knees thrust in one direction
Like a symbol of math, a symbol meaning greater than.
I come recommended by four out of five,
Im a factor in the whole plan.
Four five therefore nine,
Nine and nine therefore eighteen,
Eighteen and eighteen therefore thirty-six,
Four five therefore nine.
Sometimes I was
Drifting on a coffee buzz.
Quantify my luck
I need a mercy fuck.
You crowd me out.
You crowd me out.
-
I know I have asked you this before, but you either ignored it or did not see it, but have you ever built a working trebuchet?
If so, how much could it throw, how far? Have you explored the online trebuchet nuts places?
-
No, never made one in real life, I've made a few in Second Life though. I'd love to build one IRL if I had the resources and land available. :)
I thought about making a small one to throw tennis balls for my dog. That'd be fun.

Thanks Cal.
Stay away from him.
:LMAO:
My last mini-trebuchet had a twenty three inch arm and it would throw a tennis ball over one hundred and twenty feet.
8)
My brother's last one would throw an eighty pound bag of concrete even farther. It was much larger! He has the property to play on, though.
I think you should make one and have some fun.

Very cool. I will, once I have some play money again. Seems as if it's been one thing after another lately, monetarily speaking.
How much counterweight did you use? What type of treb did you build?
-
Thanks Cal.
Stay away from him.
Does he get any at home?
-
i liked you better as mercy fuck yeah!
but still, did you know that you are a very readable poster?
i may stalk you if you keep this up.
-
Would you prefer to be Jack or his Beanstalk, and why?
-
Nothing really special about my weights - I used several bags of lead shot. The tricks I incorporated, included a movable fulcrum on a sliding track to maximize the downward angle of the weight, a sling for the tennis ball and the spring/flex of a steel rod also adds to the power equation.
The largest one my brother has built was of a much simpler design, but it was truly a weapon of mass destruction, compared to anything we could legally buy and shoot. He had a couple of old junk cars from a mechanic neighbor's salvage "garbage" that he moved over to the target area. It was amazing to see what a concrete block or a hardened bag of cement would do to a car.
It's all just boyfun.

He has a blanket we call his girlfriend. He likes to hump her occasionally.

What does that mean?? Should I take it as a compliment?
Would you prefer to be Jack or his Beanstalk, and why?
Jack, because the beanstalk gets cut down in the end.

It's a little sad for the poor deprived kids who can't afford a piano to play.
:'(
Damned funny though! I used to work in a music store and I was often the strong guy on a piano delivery. I have daydreamed about a better way to deliver one to the upstairs lofts. "Here, CATCH!"
As much fun as all that shit is, I would much rather see your interest in electricity/electronics further explored a la Tesla. You had me curious, because of your early choice of screen name.

Fixed.
No. He's fixed. And no he doesn't roam.
Hmm...also fixed. Odd that he should be humping then.
Was he snipped kinda late? I've found it's difficult to
get those trimmed early aroused.

Although I have a general understanding of electrical circuits it's never really been my predominant interest. Although, I did work as a printed circuit board designer for several years when I lived in Silicon Valley.

Was that mainly about drafting two dimensional space wisely or were you involved in the proximity effects of specific components and minimizing their interactions?

Generally I would begin with the number of layers I was allowed to use, a bill of a materials, a board outline, and a net list. I would then place the components for signal integrity, ease of manufacture and assembly. Some components were obviously fixed in their position in order to interact with other components in the system, other than that though it was generally what would route the best. It was 2 dimensional, however you always did need to keep in mind the other layers and if the signal from one trace could interferre with another on an adjacent layer. The final decisions were always up to the EE though.

It still sounds pretty involving although droll and probably beneath your abilities. Why did you give it up? It sounds like it could have turned into a decent job.

I was working there while the tech "bubble" burst. Everyone I knew was retiring or getting laid off. We decided that we had better get out while we could so we packed up our stuff and moved out of state. These days it's a pretty difficult position to get without a degree in Electrical Engineering. It was a great job while it lasted though. I start school again next week, finally going to get that mechanical engineering degree.

Well, I didn't want to brag too much, but since you mentioned it ...

Thanks for the g-spot tickling shaped penis of kisses Dawg.
There's a sentence I never thought I'd say.

'ere, tes... pin... mythological Irish hero - are you sure about your most recent incarnation? he had really sticky-out hair, and one of his eyes bulged, when he was up for a bit of a go at someone. not attractive.
Sounds like me. I shave my head for good reason, any longer than an inch or two and it starts to look like Einstein. I do get a bulge on occasion, but not my eyes... :eyebrows:
really? can't say as i'd noticed.
( :pinocchio: whoops... )
No, it's true, want me to prove it? :eyelash:
yes. asap, please.

-
Who would you vote for in the Democratic primaries (looking as it is now, of course)?
Honestly, I have no idea. I heard a democrat from Texas the other day on NPR who talked like a libertarian. I'd vote for him if I had to vote for a democrat. Can't remember his name though, wasn't one of the front runners.
-
Shamefully bumping my own Ask Away thread.
-
What kinds of questions do you like best?
-
I have no idea. I suppose the kind that shows someone is actually interested.
-
how did your second class go? i'm still agog. ;D
-
Very well. I really like my instructor. She's great, and quite funny, plus it's a night class, and I think she gets a bit loopy by the end. hehe Plus the material is quite interesting.
-
;D loopy instructors are always such good value. ;)
-
Yeah. If those idiots in the class could just stop wanting to share with the class. "Well, I'm .... " blah blah blah.
-
What are you taking classes in?? What is your Major?? Do you think you'll make a shit-ton of money when you graduate??
-
I'm taking a sociology class at the moment. My major is Mechanical Engineering. I don't care so much about making a shit ton of money, I just want to not hate going to work in the morning.
-

I hear it's hard to get a job as a Mech Engineer because the market is flooded with them. What kind of work do you want to do when you get done?? (I hope you don't want to go to work for an Amusement park like Six-Flaggs, I hear they treat their people like shit!)
-
Well, I don't really know. The ME field is wide open. You can get a job just about anywhere doing just about anything. I'll see what opportunities are out there when I finally finish.
-
Mechanical engineering is cool.
A quick search showed lots of mechanical engineering jobs available.
-
Yes, I'm very excited to finish. I graduated high school 10 years ago and this is the third college I've been to. I'm a bit of a procrastinator.
-
If you're not Tesla then who the hell are you? Edison?

Holy shit. I am in the same boat as you. I graduated in 97 and I am on my 3rd university ROFL. Well at least I will be well rounded haha.
-
Hell, it took me 15 years to get around to finishing my
first bachelor's. 'Course, being compared to me ain't too
hot, I guess.
-

I'd rather choke on a nixie tube.

Yeah, I'll just be happy to finish. The first time around I was more interested in drinking beer than waking up for class. Second time around the residency laws screwed me so that I would have to pay out of state tuition ($30,000/year), even though I'd been living in the state for two years at that point. Bastards.
-
Have you ever heard of Make magazine? I think you would enjoy it mine came in the mail today.
He is their website they have sample articles http://www.makezine.com/
-
Oh yeah, Make is on my google home page. :) Right next to instructables. Although I don't get the magazine. They have it at my local bookstore and I look through it when we go there.
-
hey, handsome.
just finished reading "sea change" by peter nichols (sp?). it's about a solo transatlantic voyage on a teeny sailing boat. thought you might like it - it's fab.
:-*
-
Excellent. :) I'll put it in the reading list.
I've been thinking of getting my United States Coast Guard classification as "Ordinary Seaman". It's just a bit of paperwork, and then I can whisk off and work on any US flagged ship I choose, well almost any.

Wow, I love a tall ship!
-
Beautiful isn't she? That's the barque Picton Castle. When I graduated high school I begged my parents to let me sail on her on her maiden voyage. An around the world trip, stopping in places like the Cook Islands etc... The problem was that it was 50 large to sail as a trainee the whole way. Way too expensive.
I think this is one of my favorite boats... a gaff rigged topsail schooner. Gorgeous with her raked masts, loads of canvas, and enormous bowsprit.

i'm a bit of a sea-lover, too - my dad was in the royal navy during WWII, and he had some tales to tell (although, obviously, not on a sailing ship: he was in the fleet air arm).
i do love a well formed bowsprit, though. :eyelash:

I just went over there and I think that it's great! I loved seeing the steps of making the LCD projector. Could we just register there?

Oh, dear. :) I never check for my own thread being posted in here.
Yes, that's my forum. You all are more than welcome to post anything you like there.
I've posted on Instructables and emailed the people who do Hack a Day... I meant to email or post on Make Magazine... Haven't done that yet.

I have a job interview tomorrow. :-\
I hate job interviews, I do very poorly at them. Normally Amy tells me that it doesn't matter, I can blow it if I want to... etc. But, I really need a job, or we're going to be fucked soon. This isn't a particularly cool position. We'll see how it goes though.
-
Good luck with it hope you get it then you can look for a cool job

It's an AutoCAD drafting job for a construction company.

What a nightmare. The interview was two fucking hours long... they had me talk to the dude forever... he actually started by saying, "So, tell me about yourself." Instant freak out. Then I had to tour the facilities, meet people, talk some more, pretend to be interested... then they sat me down in front of a computer and prove to them that I knew how to fucking use AutoCAD. I left finally, with them saying they were going to call me and let me know after they talked it over and I assume interviewed other people. I was so stressed out from the interview, that I got into a big fight with Amy, about me not wanting a job and freaking out over the interview and being stressed that we haven't been able to pay bills, blah, blah, blah.
Specialization of labor sucks ass. I want to be a hunter/gatherer.
So today has basically sucked. I think I'm going to go get drunk now.

Just go a little easy on the sauce at first. Pace yourself.
Remember that what they thought of how your interview went, they have kept from you.
Your feeling of how it went may be " conFusalated " with your own feelings of how hard it all was.
We have all done this. If they were honest and you were half-wittedly able to function near fifty percent of your normal, you did fine!
Drink one for the bull, too.

Thanks Dawg. I had one glass and decided I didn't want any more.
I'm feeling better now.

Haven't heard back from the place I interviewed at. I dunno... I didn't feel right about that place.

then avoid it like the plague, hon - i've ignored those feelings before, and regretted it. :(

But there could be other reasons for you to not hear from them...
Unless they're called PTC.

How is the wireless power thing going?
-
I have another interview tomorrow... this time with a headhunter. She says that she has "Multiple opportunities" for me... so, we'll see what happens.
I so hope I get something. It sucks being broke.
-
How is the wireless power thing going?
You know I saw someone using wireless power in a magazine the other day. There was a tiny pill sized camera that you swallow and it scans your digestive system as it works it's way through. Instead of using batteries they equipped it with wireless power and you put a battery and transmitter in your pocket. It would send out the energy required to run it, and receive the pictures it took so you wouldn't have to fish it out when it's done... just flush it. :)
Pretty sweet though.

What a medical breakthrough that will be. Get yourself clean and shiny inside and take pictures of the fixtures.
I probably need that.

She told me that I should consider studying Civil engineering instead of Mechanical engineering because she knows a lot of Mechanical engineers who are out of work. Bitch. Fuck you, trying to tell me how to live my life based on anecdotal evidence. Civil engineering is boring shit. Mechanical is where it's at. I'm going to work at a job I find incredibly boring for the rest of my life just because it'll be easier for me to find a job, at this time, in this economy, in this location. Moron.

I have seen stuff like that before, but I was referring to the large amounts of power needed to run large appliances and electrical equipment (not to mention going from house to house or city to city). Kinda like the guy in your avatar was trying to mess with. Some people recently made a 1/3rd scale Tesla coil system and did transfer quite a bit of power. Of course that could be dangerous and lead to some kind of weapon development eventually lol.
Have you seen the stuff the US military is working on in regards to energy beam weapons?

Most engineers go into management anyway, or at least its that way in the UK. Not to mention that I doubt you could be out of work over here with an engineering degree. Your careers adviser sounds like a fucktard, get another one...

She was a headhunter, not a careers adviser, Hadron.
Headhunters find qualified candidates to send employers to interview and hire, based on the employers' criteria. Sometimes the headhunter officially hires the employee for some amount of time on behalf of the employer, so they are easier for the employer to get rid of if they don't work out.
My husband found a job with a headhunter and he's a mathematician, Tesla. You should go with the career you love, IMO, not the one she thinks is more employable.

Thanks Callaway, I agree.
I got a phone call from a Hot Rod shop I applied to... they're wanting a shop grunt to train up. I'm going to call them on Tuesday.

It went OK. I talked to her, she called them and was told that they are so busy at the moment that they can't talk to me today.
We'll see what happens. I'm still applying for other jobs.
Moron.
That sounds a lot different to the system we have over here. Most headhunters over here tend to just target the top jobs, and the job centres are government ran schemes to get people back into work rather than what seems to happen over in the US.

We have employment offices here too, which are run by the government. These are like your job centers, I think.

i've been headhunted, if that's the definition. they wanted me to be an SEN advisor for EBD for the local education authority i was working for, in london.
actually, come to think of it, it's twice, cos the SEN/EBD advisor in bristol offered me a job while i was in another one too.

I've been headhunted several times. The last time was only two weeks ago.

Yet another interview coming up. This one I'm really excited about.
Delta Products, working in their electronics R&D lab.

Monday afternoon... I acted like a complete idiot on the phone. I didn't prepare for the call well enough. I hope that doesn't affect my chances.
Also have a date with a new girl this weekend.

Good luck with the interview. :)

Awesome, prospects!
I'm putting in a good word for you with Lady Luck on the girlfriend idea. Lady Luck can be "quite the lady" when she's horny.

Well, the interview went horrible. It was by far the worst interview of my life, and quite possibly one of the most embarrassing and humiliating experiences I've had in a long time. I was getting grilled by four people with a PhD in electrical engineering about electrical theory. I blanked on so many questions. I know the answer to them now, but I just couldn't come up with them. Ohm's law, I studied that, I know that... One guy just kept going, making me draw schematics, draw what this signal would do in this circuit, that circuit etc.. Eventually the guy who invited me to the interview stopped the asshole before he could go any further, thanked me for coming in and told me that I didn't have the education they needed. Obviously... it says so right there on my fucking resume. I was humiliated, I felt completely undermined, as though I was an idiot. I just drove home and cried. I couldn't help it... I had so worked myself up. I thought that I had it in the bag, I was confident. I was wrong.

I have had interviews like that before and they suck.
You will do better in the next one.
-
What arseholes. >:(
Exams have a separate time, they aren't for the middle of an interview!
-
Did they look at your resume? You should bill them for your time
-
I've been headhunted several times. The last time was only two weeks ago.
Most of those who headhunted me were heads themselves.
I never found a way to trust them, even when I tried.

I had another job interview today... The interview went alright, but, my headhunter was mistaken about the job. It's not in Raleigh after all, it's in Wilson, 60 miles away. After the interview she was asking me if I'd want to drive all that way. I told her that I'd rather not... she informed me of the wonderful opportunities of living in Zebulon half way between, and assured me that a lot of young couples were moving out there. <twitch> I kindly told her that we had just recently bought our house, and reminded her that we have just found out that my wife is pregnant, so a move just wouldn't work for now. She asked me again if I wanted to make the drive from Apex. I told her that it's a 60 mile drive one way, that's 120 miles per day. My car gets about 25 miles per gallon, and at 120 miles per day it is aprox. 4.8 gallons per day, and at $4.00 per gallon that's $19.20 per day in gas alone, and assuming that I get paid around $15.00 per hour, that's almost an hour and a half of working just to pay to have a job, not to mention the two hours per day of driving, which makes it 3.5 hours per day wasted. She then asked... "So you don't want the job?" I told her that I don't think I'll accept it.
-
Zebulon what a weird name for a town that alone would be reason to live there

I think that this a perfectly acceptable reason for not taking the job.
I was in similar circumstances where I said no to a job and then I was criticised for it. Stuff them. Why should I travel to work and then spend hours working just to pay for petrol?

I had yet another interview today... This one went very well though. I'm rather happy, and (possibly stupidly) optimistic.
AutoCAD position... structural detailing for high rise buildings using post tensioning concrete systems.

Good luck. :)

Ever think of trying for a job at a company that does on site inspections. Field work is good and keeps you out of a lot of the office politics that we seem to suck at

Good luck.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you, Tesla.

Same here!
Hope you can catch a break, Tesla.

How come you haven't asked me anything in my ask away thread (http://www.intensitysquared.com/index.php/topic,6936.0.html)?
-
This may have been asked before...But why "Tesla"?

This may have been asked before...But why "Tesla"?
Because he's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikola_Tesla) kind of a hero of mine.
Crazy as hell, but an amazing genius.
-
So do you like pigeons too?
-
No. Not particularly.

Had my second interview with the concrete place. The interview went well. We talked, and then the bossman came in, we talked a bit. He comes from a survey background as well. I think we got on pretty well. He left and she and I talked a little bit more. I was in there for probably 30 minutes. She said that she had one more interview to do on Friday, and she was going to contact that person to make sure they were still coming in... then she apologized that it seems like they're being so picky, but they want someone who'll be around for a while, and "if you're going to work with someone for that long, you should probably like them."
So, hopefully they liked me.
Thanks for the good wishes.

Sounds promising

Sounds good indeed. :)

That sounds really good, Tesla.

How does it feel, sharing a birthday with Galileo Ace?
:birthday:
I'm fine with that. My cousin's birthday is on the 29th... so I always had to share it with him. Sometimes it was a pain in the ass... like when he smashed his face into my Dukes of Hazard birthday cake. I was so pissed.
-
I didn't get it...
I'm really sorry I did not call you Friday. I had a problem with on of our projects and went to the site. I left from the site to go home and did not have your number. It was a really tough choice, but we have gone with another candidate. He is a bit more seasoned. I wish I could have hired you both. Would it be ok if keep your resume and if we have an opening call you?
Best of luck.
-
At least he wants to hire you if they have another opening, so you must have done pretty well in the interview.
-
Yeah, I did pretty well I think. I don't want to think about having to start all over at finding another job.
-
I hope there's an opening soon. :(
-
Apparently dude who they hired "had other plans" is what she said. So, she called me and asked if I was still available.
I start on Monday.
Thank fucking god.
I so need things to start turning around for us.

I had a lovely time last week. You were fabulous- everything I'd hoped, and more. But how come you never called me back?
