Title: Experimental typist
Post by: maldoror on July 12, 2007, 12:07:08 AM
I've decided that I'm not going to use the backspace or delete key anymore (on these forums). This means that if you experience typos and/or brain diarheea from me please complain behind my bvack instead of after every post. I'm sick of taking ten minutes to make a post. Thank you for your time.

This thread could have been fun. Or a day of 'do not fix mistakes in your posts' would be good too.

I suffer from CPE (chronic post editing) myself.

I'm waiting for a 12 step program, although I've heard that :wine: can be very helpful.

Donations to my cure are very much appreciated.  :zoinks:

Sometimes if I'm really tired or stressed I make horrendous spelling mistakes when posting or repeat the same word over and over in a post (and I HATE spelling mistakes!)....and I feel ocd about fixing them up....so it's the weeks you see 'edited' at the bottom of my posts you can guess that's what's happening.

It pisses me off too, because I always think an 'edited' post looks like you took out some really good shit but were too scared to say it! But for me it's usually because of spelling or typos or a certain word on replay in my head.

I type with just two fingers and I watch the keyboard almost the entire time, so I don't make too many typos, but I do fix them when I see them.
However, most of my edits involve changing smileys or putting more space between lines so smileys don't compete too much with each other! :asthing:

I.,m ashamed to say it but I am a fairly good touch typist. Computers have a lot to answer for because of the backspace and delete bustons. Back in the days where you had to learn to touch type on thsoe osld machines, you damn near would lose a findger if you fucked up. Plus, it was pretty awful to undo you r mistakes with the typing eraser, or worse still if you hav capon copries to make. Then you really would have to start all over again, because no eraser could fix the carbon copies fuck ups.

OK, maybe I am not so good a typist.  :P But I applied myself to the above post and committed to using no delete or backspace button. Plus it's cold, maybe my fingers aren't warmed up enough!

Oh, OK. Well, at least you tried. I don't even attempt it, I use 2 fingers and look at the keyboard the whole time!

WTF are you ashamed of that for? Why would be you be ashamed of having mastered a skill that required practice and discipline to acquire?

BTW, I was looking @ my keyboard all the time I was typing this. Old habits die hard.

That's very sweet. I think it pisses me off that I can type reasonably well and fast. I blame my Mother. She made me do typing as a subject for 2 years, when what I really wanted to do was Technical Drawing, so I could become an architect. When I see people struggle to type I do feel thankful and I ended up working in construction anyway. But yeah, I think she still should have let me do Technical Drawing, regardless.

Like she should have let me learn the drums. Instead I had to join the choir.

I was in the choir @ church. I would have been MUCH better off masturbating and reading comic books.

I must say, though, that @ my wife's suggestion I did join a local choir that was led by an old family friend of hers and it was v. enjoyable. We performed Faure's Requiem (arr. John Rutter) and Rutter's The Sprig of Thyme. And no, Odeon, I haven't forgotten that I still owe you a copy of the recording of the Requiem.

:plus: For the laugh. I was only 7 at the time, so whilst I liked Archie comic books, no the other activity kind of wasn't an option!

I'm happy with the way things turned out, but it's always interesting to wonder if I'd been allowed to do the 3 big things I really tantrumed about, if my career etc would have turned out differently. The other thing I lost my shit aobut was golf, I really wanted to play golf when I was about 11, but no, not ladylike enough. Much the same as the drums, and the technical drawing.

So fuck it. Go learn drums, golf and tech drawing. Micky Dolenz (The Monkees) didn't know how to play drums when he got the gig, but he took six months and at least learned well enough to fake it (and then actually play on their post-TV show albums).
