Title: Is the site becoming a mess??
Post by: Scrapheap on May 28, 2007, 04:05:27 PM
Most threads I'm reading these days are just a conversation between two people while all other conversations seem to be subsiding.

Others can talk. It's their own fault if they
don't. I try and (when not in extreme spam
mode) stay out of where I have nothing to
say, and I've found that's a good deal of the
site.

My replies depend upon my mood, the person posting before me, the subject, what was said, etc,  or a combo of things.  Many a time I have hit reply, only to change my mind and do something else rather than post.

no.
because my answer would be that i hope not.

i believe that you must sometimes take one step back in order to take two steps forward.  this is the reason that i engage you.

I get it all the time.
Used to infuriate me,

and now I'm seeing my

never pulled that shit though.

My mother used to volunteer me for things, which annoyed me very much.

She tried to stop doing that when I told her how much it bothered me, though.

You're lucky. Anything that I tell my

Yeah I think you did miss the heights of Mcj's postwhoring.

I don't completely disagree with you- I just think its the price we pay for having free speech- there's always the risk that someone is going to post crap all over the place to get their numbers up or just because they like spamming too much.  I've been pissed off by people's spamming in the past many times, but I know that I've probably pissed other people off when I post-whore-its all give and take I guess.

Maybe he is depressed because he finally realized that he was incorrect about women being idiots.

If a man approaches a woman with this attitude that women are all idiots or bitches, it is no mystery why he can't find one who will stay with him.

Maybe the better option would be to say Cal, your spamming pisses me off, can you show some restraint rather than piss everyone else off in the process with posts comprising of one word.
At least in his misguided efforts, he thinks he is making sense sometimes.

Given that 90% of what you responded to
was longer than the posts you put up,
it's a hard sell.

Indeed. As I've said, I'm trying to limit my desire to respond to everything,
but the more pissed I get, the less that I care.

Why doesn't Scrap change his IP when sock puppeting? Even an almost computer-illiterate guy like I can do that.  ???

I didn't check the sockpuppet's IP before blaming Scrap. Even Flo would have figured this one out.

There was a very good reason for Timmy's appearance last night. I was trying to drop a hint to calandale about his spamming. I guess it didn't work.

Timmy was every bit as annoying as Calandale during his spamming spree.

I think that I've expressed that whatever
I put down is pretty damned sincere, with
the exception of obvious jokes
.

Indeed. As I've said, I'm trying to limit my desire to respond to everything,

This seems to clearly fit in the latter category,
though it might be expressing some of
the impressions that I seem to have given others,
in a sort of sarcastic slap at myself. I do shit like
that all of the time - classic low self esteem
attitude.

The statement that begins the quote is indeed
pretty true. I'd been making an effort not to
try and say something in response to everything.
AND the whole timmeye shit was getting me
into a pissed enough state that I was close
to slipping into maximal spam mode.

I am finding that not responding to much
is much less pleasant though. Right now,
I'm just taking a break from work. Don't
know what it means if I end up online a
lot again.

More likely a live whore.

I'm just saying that I liked the thrill of spamming.
Doubt that I would again though. Probably just
do it over at WP. It doesn't do any harm there.

NO-ONE reads the latter.

No one would much notice at WP,
there are plenty of spammers there.
None of MY talent. It just gets boring
dealing with some of the low-quality ones.

The quality. Gosh, I thought that was obvious.

but my battery is nearly dead, and that was
my self-imposed limit.

What separates low-quality spam from high-quality spam?

Something of a joke really. What I write isn't usually considered spam,
UNLESS it is off topic. But, since almost every topic here wanders off
topic, it kind of applies to everything that people write. Same thing
(though perhaps to a lesser extent) at WP.

Okay, so what is quality and what is not? All a matter of the humor.
Obviously, by the response I'm getting, my spam has sunk to levels
where it is not viewed as of the quality which it usually is. 'Tis cool.
Pretty much the same crap gets yucks elsewhere.

What bothers me a whole lot more is that when I try cutting back
on pure spam, if anything, I'm getting abused more. Again, I've got
no real problem with this, but it seems completely wasted to discuss
my opinions when they are ridiculed as either spam, or as some sort
of inconsistent mess. At least the spam seemed to have been generated
some laughs, UNTIL I tried cutting back, and then EVERYTHING I said
was taken as some sort of insult to this community by certain members.
Usually, this only happens to me IRL.

Who knows.  Calandale called me a Spammer.....when in fact my posts are either serious or trying to add a lighthearted note to something.
Technically speaking, I would think I had never spammed.  But I guess if you have AS it's inevitable at some time to be accused of going off on a tangent, which I sometimes do on other people's Ask Away threads...
but it's not deliberate...I think if you are going to neglect your Ask Away thread, then it's sort of a given that it may go off on a tangent.

Like I've said, some 98% of what I see here (and on WP) would

Yes, me too, but maybe Pappy has spoken to him more recently?

I spoke to him on facebook about a year and a half ago.

IIRC he said something about you being a stick in the mud that just won't change.

I guess he has a different vision of what this place should be.

I guess so. He always liked the kind of drama that results from things like the world council.

Well, if you speak to him again, tell him I said hi.

Who cares what people think about this place, if they're not here?  :M

Agreed.   :viking:

Um, why not?

It would be sort of pointless, wouldn't it?  :dunno:

He was a bit of a stick in the mud as well......and somebody who wouldn't change either!  He provoked fights, manipulated things behind the scenes...something I got from a very reliable source.  Pea gave him the nickname "manslag" on Dunc's forum.  I found it appropriate!  His honesty will always be doubtful in my mind!  I do not wish him ill, nor do I wish him well.  :M

He is probably as stuck in his ways as most of us.

I freely admit to being "stuck" in my ways......but, then again, it's who I am.  I change, adapt as the NEED warrants.  Not because of bullying, shaming or trolling by others.  mcmanslag never understood that, like my female bio progenitor and others I have known.
