When I saw this it reminded me that I saw a need for another site long ago.
Wondering what Cal et al see as their end game.
I'm nearing a point where I'll have both the money and the time to start up another site. Although my idea several years ago was for the Intensity Cubed idea, it was in part a support site suitiable for under 18 year olds. I don't want to get involved in activism because I have too much going on IRL at this point.
I think the best thing at this point would be to start another virtual pub like Dunc's Drivel. Hopefully we can attract some of the people who have dissapeared from here but can still be found in other places. Also, we could start a recruitment drive at WP and the handful of other Spazz sites that are still active. We could also try recruiting from Facebook groups.
What do you people think?? Would you join me for drinks at The Spazz Tavern?? :zoinks:

There's another forum I go to. No energy for an extra forum. Once there was a time I liked to be on quite a few. Now two is more than enough. And even with just two I go on hiatus now and then.

I wish you well with that, but, I probably won't go there. Tbh, I'm forumed out, since the mid 90's when I started joining and participating in forums. I learned a lot, made some good friends and had fun. Now I spend most of time on FB and running a busy household. Most of my friends from those days are on FB or I have contact with them via GMAIL, like Lucifer and a few others. I'm hardly on here as much as I used to be. As my signature states, I've evolved and changed. A lot of my questions have been answered and my social needs have gone down to minimal. Good luck and who knows, I may pop over for a look see. Maybe someday, you'll be out in this neck of the woods and we can have a drink in real life! :beergrin:

Unless the intention is to try and steal I^2's posts, it does NOT take a lot of preparation.
Most of the tools are pretty damned easy to set up. Keeping them up to date is the bitch.

Scrap has been announcing and planning this for a very long time. I can hardly remember him not wanting to do this.
So it's not going to be one of those "start it in a day" forums. This will be speshull de luxe.

Intensity Cubed was an idea I had over 8 years ago. I didn't have much money or a decent computer back then so I couldn't make it happen. The idea was to make a site that could also be suitable for under 18 year olds so we could poach some of the younger WP members who were interesting. It wasn't intended to be an "escape pod" so much as it was an improvement over the model I2 is based on.
Spazz Tavern would be more like Dunc's Drivel. Hopefully able to attract some of those same people back.
It make take a month or two since I have things to deal with IRL right now.

Guess it can be updated to a paid ad-free version without a problem.

Free full-service SMF sites that are trivial to stand up have their problems. Notably, you may not be able to download the site.
On the other hand, free server space (I'm using bythehost) is better for a trial site. You won't want to stay with
such if you want high percentage uptime ect., but what's cool is that you can learn how to host your site properly,
managing SMF, php, Tomcat, and SMF. Of course, all that effort is also a fucking pain. Maybe it's exciting at first
(configuration crap never was to me), but it's gonna fade.
