So yeah, my current computer is a Windows Vista from 2008 or 2009. Slow as fucking molasses lately.
I need a new one that's n00b friendly. Help a Weeble out? :cbc:
-
Laptop or desktop?
Old IBM laptop I had was running Vista, loaded Linux on it and gave it to the kid, best it ever ran. Vista was a nightmare.
-
Desktop. It's been pretty good for the most part, just slow lately. Is Linux hard to use? :orly:
-
No, it's not. It's different, though.

No, it's not. It's different, though.
Different is intimidating. I don't like change. :tard:

Might be a better than going with the new Windows 10.
Been able to correct the issues I've had so far, but everyone that I know that decided to upgrade even before I did has been calling me with problems.
Top two issues so far...1. they don't like the default browser, and.... 2. they are freaking out because they can't connect to the internet after downloading a recent update.

Windows 10 sucks. The more I use it, the less I like it. The only thing it is actually better at than Win 7 is the Hi DPI scaling.
Go for Ubuntu, CBC. It's easy to learn, very intuitive, and for the most part simply works.

Losing my internet access would freak me out bigtime. :smash:

I always have the feeling that I have less control in Windows 10.

What are you using as a fix?
-
Don't use Windows 10. :M
-
What happened to Windows 9?
-
Stillborn, or aborted?

They can't count. :M

They can't compute? :orly:

A couple of years ago, they introduced something called Windows 2000. That's all I'm going to say. :M

I won't. If it cuts off my internet access, what bloody use is it? :dunno:

What are you using as a fix?
Winsock reset or loading a different anti-virus.
But sometimes it comes back.
There is no one-size-fits-all fix for that one it seems.
Microsoft acknowledges the problem...but that seems to be about it.
