K, so I'm wandering back in to post a link. Yeah, I know: not in for months and then come back in to post shit. :zoinks:
Anywho. As a recap, I'm in science research and nowadays it's a good thing for scientists to take advantage of social media (e.g., blogging) and mix scientific journalism with one's research. So I've just started a bi-monthly science blog called Science Over a Cuppa (http://insolemexumbra.wordpress.com/) and I'm trying to drum up some readers.
So, if ya got the time, have an eensy bit of motivation, then I'd appreciate a looksy at my first post: http://insolemexumbra.wordpress.com/2012/12/12/move-over-proteins-science-says-its-an-rna-world-now-but-is-it/ (http://insolemexumbra.wordpress.com/2012/12/12/move-over-proteins-science-says-its-an-rna-world-now-but-is-it/)
It's autism-related.
Thanks, guys! :hyke:

Hi Sophist. :santa: I bookmarked that and will try to remember to go back later. I'm PPK BTW.

Long time no see. I'll check it out.

How are you these days? Everything OK?

They don’t lie in wait like some timid lover but aggressively seek their molecular partners, offering welcoming curves to a desired protein, RNA, or metal, and then in an instant change direction and rebuff their partner’s advances.
Speaking from personal experience?

Ah howdy! Love the pic! Geoffrey Rush is part of my Holy Trinity (plus Anthony Hopkins and Liam Neeson).

Heya, definitely LTNS. How're things going for you?

Well, the dissertation itself is improving slightly but is still a major pain in the ass. Unfortunately I'm stuck working on spinal cord with a crappy mentor. :-\ But in my spare time I've been very productive with my sig. other, collaborating on various writing and research projects. I've designed a current project looking at a particular aspect of periodicity within the genome. I think I've found something foundational which I haven't found reported in the literature yet, so I'm highly hopeful. We're just starting more in-depth sequencing.
Personal life is great. I moved in with Manny last July and we're just one big happy family. My mother is also doing better, having beaten the GI cancer-- and even more difficult, the post-surgery Clostridium infection which she said was far worse than the cancer, ironically. She's still on the mend but it's looking very positive.
So basically, all's going well right now except my dissertation. But I don't have high hopes for it; I just want my degree, that's it. I'm not placing my eggs in the basket but in my other side work which has been far more innovative and productive. When it comes time for job-seeking, my CV will be based on that.
How're things for you?

Alas, I've had to take the word of others. I'm still a virgin in that respect. :eyelash:

Hey, Sir Les. Recognize you by the avatar.
I've been enjoying the actor in your photograph: he's playing a role in the current season of American Horror Story: Asylum. Very cool. :green:

Oh, just fine for the most part. Nothing overly dramatic or out of the ordinary at the moment. Well, nothing I haven't described somewhere around here and would want to publish on teh interwebz.

And now Iz curiooze. :green:
Btw, posted a new entry. Kinda similar topic, although going more in depth and also addressing some of the ridiculousness that's been going on in the scientific community over the ENCODE press release. http://insolemexumbra.wordpress.com/2012/12/16/one-scientists-junk-dna-is-another-scientists-treasure/ (http://insolemexumbra.wordpress.com/2012/12/16/one-scientists-junk-dna-is-another-scientists-treasure/)

Do a search on "12-yo" and "eye surgery", Sophist, if you are interested. Those two have been my main sources of drama this past autumn. :P

The wee one is my boss. He is on vacation right now. With any luck he will drown.

Hi, formerly Sophist. Welcome back to the forum. Even though we don't know each other.
