I had a 1968 model . It was grey when I got it, had it painted dark blue
I got it at an auction in 1971 for $1000

^ Wow, cool. Always thought Jaguar's E-type was a fine looking car. Those wheels (which the car on the picture doesn't have) with all the spokes were nice too.
Just peeked on an English car auction site and the prices they ask for decent ones nowadays.. oinky doinky.. Well, it depends but nice/good ones go for more than £50,000 quite easily.

^ Your father had a Volvo 164 too? Duh, ja, okay.. Well, my dad and I (with help from more experienced folks) just finished restoring the car.. when he died. Um, no need to aaw or something but it's such a shame he couldn't enjoy his 'royal ride' that long. The car was spick and span by that time. 'Ordinary men's Rolls Royce' he called it sometimes.

I got to drive the new one at my last job. The 2013. Upwards of 600hp. Last I checked, even the writers at the major magazines (C&D, Automobile etc.) haven't been able to do more than go for a ride in the passenger seat. Took it up past 150 on the freeway at three in the morning. Yes, you are right to hate and envy me.
I miss that job so fucking bad.

What was that job?
-
I can't think of anything that starts with U. Someone else'll have to cover for me.
The job was durability testing for an engineering firm. Basically, preproduction models would be dropped off and we'd put miles on them and record anything that went wrong. The pay was shit, but the work was awesome. Especially since my crazy aspie obsession is cars.
Edit: lest I sound like I'm bragging too hard, I'll point out that most of what I drove was minivans and family sedans. Still, being out on the road, even in a boring POS, beats the hell out of being stuck in an office or doing manual labor all day.

Phaeton -
Each June, during the official Queen's Birthday celebrations, Queen Elizabeth II travels to and from Trooping the Colour on Horse Guards Parade in an ivory-mounted phaeton carriage made in 1842 for her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria. (And that ladies and gentlemen is one of the reasons we are so rich. We don't keep up with the Jones's. Use it up, wear it out. Make it do or do without.)

A sleeper (US English) or Q-car (British English) is a car that has high performance and an unassuming exterior.[1][2] Sleeper cars are termed such because their exterior looks little or no different from a standard or economy-class car. In some cases the car appears worse due to seeming neglect on the owner's part, typically referred to as "all go and no show". While appearing to be a standard or neglected car, internally they are modified to perform at higher performance levels. The American nomenclature comes from the term sleeper agent, while the British term derives from the Q-ships used by the Royal Navy.

S car.
Once there was a snail who was tired of being slow. He went out and bought an Audi S car and had the dealer paint a big 'S' on each side of it.
Whenever someone saw him zooming past in his new car, they would say, "Hey, look at that S car go!"

Old friend of mine, no longer amongst us, owned one of these about.. 15 years ago. A very similar looking Opel Kadett, spick and span, bought from an older lady who was the first owner (car's history booklet/she had a garage to park the car) and.. my bi-polar, looking back now, friend ruined the pretty okay car in.. say, 2 years. Totalled it in the end. Himself 5 years later.
