Still no word on fatalities yet, but this one looks bad folks.

The pilot is most likely dead, and yet another irreplacable P-51 Mustang has been demolished. :fp:

It's MUSTANG, not Mustand.  :facepalm2:

That sucks bad, for the people affected and the loss of a P51.

The pilot, Jimmy Leeward of Leeward Air Ranch Racing Team, age 80, and at least 2 others were killed.  Many injured per Reno NV TV station.

Mike Houghton, President of the Reno Air Races, mis-spoke, Jimmy Leeward was 74, not 80.

So far, the report is that ambulances took 56 victims to 3 local hospitals. 15 in critical condition, 13 in serious condition, with the rest non-life threatening injuries.

The Air Races have been called off for this year.  :-[

That wouldn't suprise me. Flying debris from a plane wreck would slice anything in its path.

The death toll has risen to 9, based on an announcement, by investigators, that 7 people were killed on the tarmac, including the pilot.

69 total people were injured bad enough to have to be treated in the hospital.

No count yet on how many were injured, and released at the scene of the accident.

I was planning on going this year until we got a contract and I had to go out of state for a couple weeks. The guy I was going to be there with was sitting about twenty feet away from where the aircraft impacted. He had left a half hour earlier because his two year old daughter was getting cranky.

Good thing. Even if they had escaped injury that would have been especially scary to his little girl.
