A very good book. Scholars know about the stuff written in the book, but not a lot of laymen do.

Catholics are cannibals. So were all of the disciples. I may be kinky but at least I dont eat the host and drink blood.

They even committed incest on a very regular basis. ;)

I find them very interesting it's amazing what people under the right circumstances will believe. It's also a good way of understand where some people are coming from. Kinda like reading about schizophrenia

Just a bit of gobbling now and then. ;)

Agreed.
What can be more interesting online than having religious discussions? Politics? :zombiefuck:

I am an American, so unfortunately there is almost no difference.

Ok, this is one very interesting book. Had no idea that most critical scholars look at Jesus as an Apocalypticist kind of guy (like the JWs and such). It does make sense, though.
Regardless, I do disagree with him on a couple of points he makes, such as that Jesus didn't consider himself to be the Son of Man. I don't know, I think he sounded like any typical cult leader, so I'm not sure he considered himself distinct from the Son of Man that he often referred to in his sayings.

I think this song covers the Jesus argument pretty well:

There's also gospels that didn't make it into the bible, in which Jesus never claims any divinity.
It will make you head spin trying to keep track of such an inconsistent story.

I have a neutral stance when it comes to personal religion.
But organized religion... should be illegal and every religious leader and their cronies shot in the balls on sight. Because it does nothing but harm and manipulate people. I don't give a fuck about which organized religion it is, be it Christian, Muslim, etc. it needs to go the fuck away.
I wish someone would beat the shit out of the Pope and film it. :orly:

Yeah, but these gospels are often purported to have been written after the canonical Gospel books (at least the Synoptic ones) even by critical historians/scholars.
Personally, I think Jesus did claim some form of divinity as seen in the Synoptics. Of course, the author of John took it way too far and made Jesus claim that he was God (but that's understandable given the Christian theology already established by the time "the Gospel According to John" was written).

Religion would be fine if it were kept to peoples beliefs. Once the sermonizing and the 'thou shalts' and the churches expecting tithes, and the pontificating came into it, religion became the pain in the arse that we know it today. 99% of all wars are cause by a religious form of penis envy, or 'my god is better than your god'. Fair enough iff people want to believe that shite, but please, don't tell me there is an actual god that created all and is in charge of everything. In other words, don't push beliefs as being fact.
God was a creation, not a creator.
-
True, all instances of God are created in our minds (even if, at the end of the day, there is some supernatural unknown Creator out there).

I am God, and I so loved the world that I gave my only begotten Son (who is also me, go figure), that whosoever believeth in Me should have everlasting gullibility, and get stuck on the mailing lists of conservative fundraisers.
