IRL i always looked up to my Dad. (rip Dad) as he was always
calm and patient and never jumped to conclusions. My mom
is a bit like me - a bit too reactive
My Dad had amazing patience. I never once saw him lose his
rag. Even if he struggled to do something, he never threw it
down in temper. Never heard him swear either and never
heard him shout at my mom.
I always thought Jackie Kennedy conducted herself very well
throughout her troublesome life.
Who do you look up to?

Atticus Finch - To Kill a Mockingbird
Bill Parrish - Meet Joe Black
Sam - I am Sam
Hub - Secondhand Lions

I admire CBC: she has convinced a lot of members that she is a pure, chaste Weeble, in spite of the evidence to the contrary. :flame:

Humans aren't worth admiring
The emotions of admiration and idealization are sometimes too similar to discern as unique; envy might fall in there somewhere too.

Me because I managed to throw away a hell of a lot of crap after the fire and have bought only essentials since then (for the overwhelming part.)

My mother because she coped with:
a seriously traumatic childhood (including death of both parents, and being exploited as cheap labour and chased with a knife by her nutso foster mother)
keeping a roof over our heads and food in our mouths whilst our Dad gambled away his income
looking after all her aging aunts and cousins by turns, for no financial recompense whatsoever
continually seeing the good in everybody
Probably the only bad thing she did in her life was traumatise me by employing me as the family scapegoat , telling zillions of "white lies", and systematically destroying my self-esteem. Ok that's a biggie  but I consider the debt (as it were) well and truly cancelled.

Ian McEwan
Stephen King
Ian Rankin
They are all writing gods.

I admire my (late) father and one of my work friends for a trait I couldn't imagine possessing:
real humility, to the point of never seeking attention for anything they've accomplished. I don't think
I've ever heard either of them brag about anything they've done. I cannot be that way, I've always
been an attention-seeker. It's the basis of most of my humor, so that's OK, but still.
^ See what I just did? I made it all about me! I don't know how humble people do it.
-
Stephen Fry. :M
I watched him deal with depression while he was making his documentary, The Secret Life of Manic Depression. And of course he is great on QI.
I also admire Kayleigh's dad. He is among the most personable people I have ever met.
-
Erin Pizzey, Christopher Hitchens, Karen Straight, Milo Yiannapolous. Audie Murphy, Simo Hayha, "Atticus Finch" and my daughter. (and plenty others)
-
My father (who passed away 14 years ago), my two sisters but also chaps like Stephen Fry, Ray Mears, Jamie Oliver, Rick Stein, etc..
(have to have a longer think about it)
-
My father (deceased twenty years ago), my mother (still raising farm animals at seventy eight), my three uncles who were war veterans, my wife who works harder than I do and still keeps going, my kids who struggle every day and still keep trying, Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, Abraham Lincoln, John Muir, Theodore Roosevelt, Martin Luther King, John Lennon, Khalil Gibran, PIXAR, Maya Angelou, John Irving, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash (so many more artists, poets and philosophers - too many to name, but I have hit a few at the top) ...
Way too many seems the same as having no one to admire, but FUCKK!! we are who we are and we are made up of those who have influenced us, now and forever.
-
The number one person I admire is Eleanor of Aquataine. One BAD ASS woman. I admire her so much I named the PR after her.
(The PR got tired of the way we said "Eleanor" when we were exasperated with her. So she picked the nickname Nellie when she went from homeschooling to regular school after Katarina.)
