Because in addition to being a diminutive term,
"Aspie" is an unfortunate choice of syllables.

Asper means tribulation, hardship, too. In that way it fits. It's not the easiest way to be.

I like Aspertard.  I tell people who are clueless on the subject of Aspergers syndrome that I got it from consuming too much Aspartame.
