i'm watching the france uruguay match now but it wont feel like the world cup proper till england are playing
looking forward to showing yo americans how to play real football :zoinks:
-
Some of it, I'm sure.
-
Not to any great extent. I don't watch much TV lately. If I do, it will be snippets here and there. I think I'd like to watch at least one rugby match to see what it's like. And I know you're asking about soccer/football, not rugby.
-
i've never really got into rugby. not my kinda sport, although i don't really understand it tbh lol
-
I probably will catch glimpses of it.
Can't be avoided.
And if I manage to miss it all on TV, the amount of decorations in the streets will tell me how far the Dutch team got.
-
I'll probably be watching it all. Saying as Scotland never qualified :thumbdn: I'll just have to support all of Englands opponents. Not that I'm bitter or anything but tomorrow I'm an American :evillaugh:
Brazil are my favourites closely followed by Spain. Everyone I know thinks it'll be Argentina. They could be great, but I think Diego Maradona will arse it up.
I'm kinda shitting myself because I think England do have a good chance. They'd probably be my third or fourth favourites.

there aren't enough football fans on here ffs. there should be at least one english football fan and at least one united fan
-
I don't have tv but am wanting to watch England-USA. Anybody know a good site online that'll show it live?
Am seeing ESPN3 will be replaying it, but would really like to watch live...
-
Don't know of any live sites but my TV. Sorry. :P

i'm watching the build up to the match now :green:

-
I will be shocked if USA wins.
-
i think 2-0 sounds about right
definitely an england win anyway 8)
-
England will win this group no sweat. I'd piss myself if they get beat though. Watching England lose is the only pleasure us Scots get out of football these days.
-
my dad's scottish. i think he supports rangers. he took me to my first ever football match (united v everton 1999)
-
Just about everyone in Scotland supports Rangers or Celtic. People look at me like I'm an alien when I proudly tell them I support Falkirk. My uncle and cousin started bringing me when I was about 5. For about 10 years I went to just about every game home and away.
I quite like Man U. I was a bit pissed when Chelsea won the league last year.

Not one of Green's team mates cared enough to show him that life goes on.
-
Man, that was a SLAUGHTER
-
Not a very good game. I doubt either of these teams will win the World Cup.
-
at least we're in the world cup :hahaha: :hahaha: :hahaha: :hahaha: :hahaha: :hahaha: :hahaha: :hahaha: :hahaha: :hahaha:
We're just crap. Wish we were there but we're just not good enough. Scotland have been hopeless for years.

Look at my avatar! I AM the football!
-
what the fuck is so intresting about soccer? and please call it what it is. football is a much better sport for your viewing pleasue
I grew up supporting football, and so I've always had an interest in it. I quite like American Football (please call it what it is :moon:) I usually watch the Superbowl and find it quite a cool sport. We don't have too much interest in it over here because it's not played profesionally in our country.
I think the biggest drawback for American Football is the fact it's only played in North America. The whole world plays football and that allows for major international tounaments. You can't play international games of American Football because only 1 or 2 countries play it. I think a lot more people over here would be interested in American Football if we had our own major league.

It's football. Not my fault that you're abusing the language and the game. :P

Not a football fan, but the highlights in the 8 o clock news were funny to look at indeed.

1-0 i remember when forlan played for united
[attachment deleted by admin]
-
Watching it now. Not a good game, though.
-
I hate sports on TV. Going to a game is different that's fun if I can get drunk enough to get over my dislike of crowds
-
I havent' been to an actual game since I was about 15 i think. I don't have anyone to go with really as no one left in my family really supports united except my cousin
-
watching germany serbia now. shitty penalty
-

Do your family support a different team, or are they just not interested in it?
-
my mum isn't really into football. she took me to a couple games when i was younger tho but only coz I wanted to go. my dad took me toa game as well but he didn't really like football. my brothers do't either really but thye support city coz my steopdad is a city fan.
it was my grandad who got me into football when i was young

Just finished watching real football (AFL) and my team won, so suck it bitches!
GO THE HAWKS!!!
-
sounds boring :thumbdn:
real football is going on in south africa yo
-
sounds boring :thumbdn:
real football is going on in south africa yo
A game where each team may score a hand full of points? Dead boring.
Have you ever watched a game of AFL?
-
no - it's too shitty to watch a whole game
the fact that in real football teams don't score all through the game is what makes it interesting. if they were scoring points continuously then it would be boring. the feeling you get when your team does score would be gone

That would be like going to a movie where nothing happens.

you clearly don't appreciate the art that is real football. sure there are bad games sometimes, but good football is a million times better than any rugby style game.

Football is a sport, paintings are art. Plus AFL isn't rugby, rugby is for meat-heads.

Art is somebodies vision, sport is a competition.
You can suck at art, but you can't lose an art match.

gonna watch the 2nd half of ghana and australia now
I really hope Australia doesn't win.
-
why?

why?
Because we suck at soccer and any little win just encourages the nation. It's sad really.
-
why?
Because we suck at soccer
you mean you suck at football
-
why?

No I meant soccer. Football is a generic word describing many ball games involving kicking.

you can say that again
Doesn't look good for England. :zoinks:
-
I wish I could watch football instead of... :GA:
-
I tried to watch some of it. I'm really not into watching sports, and i felt the urge to kill swell with each second I had to listen to those god damn horns.
-
yeh the horns are bad at this world cup. i think it'd do my head in if I was in the crowd lol
just watching the portugal north korea game. nice goal for portugal
-
My job handed out those horns to all employees. And people buy them everywhere too.
Last Saturday you could hear them all over the place.
It is massive, the sound, and it carries very far.
-
how come there are so many tho?
I mean where did this come from, is it just some world cup craze?
-
how come there are so many tho?
I mean where did this come from, is it just some world cup craze?
Yup, world cup craze indeed.
And it's a traditional South African thing apparently, that vuvuzuela. So, now you get it everywhere as world cup merchandise stuff.
-
oh ok that makes sense. I was wondering if it was a south africa thing. hopefully there'll never be a world cup hosted in scotland... i hate bagpipes!

England and USA both qualified
That last minute win for the americans is what makes football so great. You could never beat that kind of feeling. I remember the 1999 champions league final when United were 1-0 down to Bayern Munich. Two corners in injury time and we win 2-1. You can't beat that kind of thing no matter how many points you win in american football
-
Oh and we have the Germans to play now... :tinfoil:
Just hope it doesn't go to penalities
-
Don't mention the war and you'll be fine. :P
-
-
slovakia gonna knock out italy now :o
-
ah, spoke too soon. maybe they'll get an equaliser now. this is another good example of what makes this the best sport on earth
-
bloody hell. scrapping in the goal
-
holy fucking SHIT :orly:
-
fucking Good game

Last second victories are great in any sport. Games that are 4 to 1 or 27 to 3 are not fun to watch imo. I'd rather watch a close game that is decided in the final seconds.
I remember in 1996 my local NFL team (Jaguars) winning because the field goal kicker (Morton Anderson - who is normally great) from the opposing team fell down while he was attempting a kick as time expired. That sent the Jags into the playoffs and they ended up being a part of one of the biggest upsets in NFL playoff history in the second round (against the Elway led Broncos). My favorite Jaguars memory is Fred Taylor basically calling his shot by saying he is going to win the game by running over Mike Doss... and on the final drive of the game Taylor juked through the defensive line and ran right over Doss on his way to a 40 yard game winning touchdown against the favored Indianapolis Colts (fuck you Peyton Manning!!!).
Last second shots in basketball games can be epic as well. I like watching Hockey more when it is in overtime, even though it is not sudden death.
-
slovakia gonna knock out italy now :o
Italy and France should both be done. I think it is funny that the 2 teams in last year's World Cup final aren't even going to get past group play.
-
gonna watch denmark/japan for a bit
-
The close games are great, but it's also fun to watch an over rated and over hyped team get slaughtered by the underdogs.
-
True of any sport, in my playbook, but I have to admit that I have not followed the games.
In three words or less, who is winning what?
-
No nothing yet.
That's three words but it's pretty damned accurate.
-
No nothing yet.
That's three words but it's pretty damned accurate.
Thank you and you have confirmed my reasoning for not watching any of the nonsense.
I actually tried to watch a bit a few days ago, but the sound in the stadium, "phasing between" so many microphones, hurt my spacial senses very badly and I began to feel as if I was being sucked down a drain. I could not stand any more. I had to turn it off.
I can not seem to focus upon the sounds of the action, but rather, I can not stop my own focus mostly from dwelling upon the sound of the problems they have broadcasting the event and the problems really hurt me. (They need to learn to double their microphones in each position (even the mobile ones!) and set one of each pair out of phase with the other. This will stop the DOWN THE FUCKING DRAIN phasing issue, by eliminating "out of periphery distortion" of the audio spectrum through "combing distortion" and phase cancellation determined by distance from the action and the other microphones. I FUCKING KNOW THIS, WHY DO NOT THESE SUPPOSED PROFESSIONALS, BROADCASTING THE MOST IMPORTANT EVENT IN FOOTBALL FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR, NOT KNOW THIS ...---... BASTARDS!!!)
-
It's entertaining at times but there's just too much of it.
-
Sorry, I can not watch without losing my cool and it has nothing to do with the games.
If the fucking American National Football League can use dual microphones for each location, at least fourteen games in fourteen locations each week, why can the World Cup broadcasters not?
I hate foreign sports for this reason alone! I even have trouble with watching my favorite, Formula One Racing, for this very reason.
-
There's too much talking on tv.With the build up to a match and then the talking about it afterwards. I just wanna watch the actual football without all the etra crap
Although with England games I sometimes like hearing what they have to say
Sound has never bothered me with footballl before. I've even been to matches in full stadiums (stadia doesn't sound right  ) and never really had any aspie problems like sensory crap
This particular WC is a bit annoying with the horn things tho.
-
The horns annoy the hell out of me. I can't listen to them so I end up either having the volume turned all the way down or shutting off the TV.
-
I do not mind the sportscasters, nor the fans enjoying themselves. I object to the lack of professional broadcasting techniques, making it almost unwatchable.
If there was a way, I might watch more, but as it is, I can not.
-
The horns make me want to kill people. They seriously need to find a way to make them less annoying while watching the broadcast.
-
I saw a few football matches when I was at my friend's house. I saw Slovakia and Japan win. When I left it was Cameroon and the Netherlands I think and no one had scored.
-
watching chile v spain now
-
this is ghey, where is everybody?
-
watching chile v spain now
Incredibly boring match. So much passing back and forth by Spain and Chile just lets them because they know they will advance too. I wish that Chile would have tried to score.
I think Brazil will beat Chile and Portugal might be able to get past Spain.
-
Didn't watch today. Not enough beer. :P
-
watching uruguay/south korea now

They have it on the tv at work. I only stop sometimes to perve on the guys.

Wimbledon is all over the bbc here. I'm not really into tennis tbh
God save the queen is awful twice over: one, I'm atheist. and two, I'm a republican! :P

wow drama in the paraguay spain match
penalty at one end - casillas saved it. then literally right afterwards spain got penalty at the other end - scored , but the ref made him take it again - keeper saved it then they hit the post.
lol still 0-0 tho
-
Not anymore. :zoinks:
-
Are they still playing then? :orly:
-
Yup, the finals are coming Sunday. And people are now also wearing orange here on days that the Dutch are not playing.

So the whole country has fallen in love with orange? :orly:

It's dead silent outside. Apart from my girls who don't give a toss about football, they are blowing soap bubbles with a vuvuzela. Such a multi-purpose thing.
0-0 so far. Wonder when the silence will break.
-
i'm surprised there have been no red cards yet
casillas is a great keeper
-
It's a violent game. :o

it is :zombiefuck:

Can't believe both teams still have 11 players.

Seems he only made one mistake during the European championships. And has not made a mistake so far during the World cup.

I watched a bit.
This was ugly football. No fun at all. No matter who won or lost. It was ugly.
-
The winner is Paul the octopus.
And tomorrow people will be moaning about if the goal of the Spanish was legit or not. :P
And on Tuesday, I'll be one of the few people walking in orange
-
did u cry?
-
I think it got better after 70 minutes or so... There should have been a goal or two more.
-
did u cry?
, no.
I only watched the last 20 minutes because I saw you and Odeon not enjoying the game at all. And I got curious. Looked ugly indeed. As if there never was the fun to play.
I will be glad when all the orange is gone from the streets. One of my least favourite colours since I was a little kid.
I hardly ever watch football. Not really my game. (hardly ever watching sports) And I rarely find football attractive or exciting. Now it was just ugly. First thought the Spanish were playing just a little bit less worse. But after a while found both sides boring.
-
you missed some of the ugliest in the first half lol
i think it's cool watching the same thing on tv at the same time. with someone online i mean. i once made milla watch the end of the european cup final with me

I dunno, I haven't spoken to her since I showed her that picture that made her sad :(
My MSN has been broken for months so we don't talk as regularly. I will see if she's on in a bit I think
and hyke - 1988??! that ws the year I was born
1999 was the best

1999 was the best
What happened in 1999, apart from you turning an awesome 11?
1988 I was about to move in to my new apartment with my now ex. But the people living in there before us, just could not move out, because they needed to see every damned football game the Dutch played in. Horrible excuse, but we just did not get the key. June 30th I had to be out of my room, my ex had to be out of his by then too. But, we could not move out. So, generous new tenant of my place gave us 4 m2 to live in and store our belongings in the shed for the time being.
Last thing we did in that house was watch the final of 1988, the day after the house we were to go in finally got empty. And we could move.
-
who won?
1999 was the year united won the treble (fa cup, premiership and champions league)
but it was amazing coz we were 1-0 down until 90mins
then in injury time we got a corner
schmeichel the goalkeeper came up for it and somehow sheringham got it in
and everyone was just like Yes, we will have extra time at least
but then we got ANOTHER corner, and solskjaer scored from it. with like 6 seconds left on the clock i think
so we won 2-1
amazing
i saw them come back on the bus with all the trophies too- went with my dad as they drove through stretford and old trafford 8)
that was an awesome year. i went to my first ever football match that season too (against everton where we won 3-1 i think- I was sat in the stretford end near the goal 8)
-
i still remember the commentary from that 1999 final
beckham... in towards schmeichel... its come for dwight york... cleared... giggs with a shot... SHERINGHAM!!

that was an awesome year. i went to my first ever football match that season too (against everton where we won 3-1 i think- I was sat in the stretford end near the goal 8)
The Dutch won, but for me being able to move out was the most important.
Was an exciting match though. It was fun to watch.

1999 is the year I moved into my own apartment! :viking:

I just spent a frustrating 5 minutes trying to explain to someone who has mental retardation why we call it soccer and the rest of the world calls it football. At one point I was turned around. I'll stick to watching curlilng.

So who won the World Cup, anyway? I never pay attention to that stuff. :dunce:

With 1 game to go in the home and away rounds, Collingwood will finish top of the ladder ahead of Geelong.
Soph: Did I tell you I have a Man U shirt from the 09/10 season with Ryan Giggs' number 11? Plus I have the matching shorts as well.
-
giggs is great. I havent' had a United shirt for years. I used to wear them all the time as a kid and teenager. Mostly David Beckham ones. In 2002 they had a reversible shirt which was gold on one side and white on the other...pretty cool
Spain won the wrld cup btw, cbc
England are looking to host the 2018 one now. that would be fucking awesome

If bagpipes are going to be handed out to the public, I guess that would be the worst. The vuvuzelas were really everywhere here. (If you want one, I can even send you one. :P, orange, scary for halloween)

Do they wear kilts?
Some do. And then they get get drunk and think it's really funny to flash at woman and children. Rangers have the scummiest fans in Scotland. They'll find the centre of Manchester and they'll all stand there getting pissed singing bigoted anti-catholic songs. All the chavs in Scotland support either Rangers or Celtic.
Maybe I'm just biased, I support Falkirk.

Who's Paul? :orly:
He's an octopus. Really.

Squid_thing, were you related to Paul?
If so, maybe you should sit down now.
Paul was found dead today.
