Not to any great extent.  I don't watch much TV lately.  If I do, it will be snippets here and there.  I think I'd like to watch at least one rugby match to see what it's like.  And I know you're asking about soccer/football, not rugby.

I probably will catch glimpses of it.

Can't be avoided.

And if I manage to miss it all on TV, the amount of decorations in the streets will tell me how far the Dutch team got.

I'll probably be watching it all. Saying as Scotland never qualified :thumbdn: I'll just have to support all of Englands opponents. Not that I'm bitter or anything but tomorrow I'm an American  :evillaugh:
Brazil are my favourites closely followed by Spain. Everyone I know thinks it'll be Argentina. They could be great, but I think Diego Maradona will arse it up.
I'm kinda shitting myself because I think England do have a good chance. They'd probably be my third or fourth favourites.

England will win this group no sweat.  I'd piss myself if they get beat though. Watching England lose is the only pleasure us Scots get out of football these days.

Just about everyone in Scotland supports Rangers or Celtic. People look at me like I'm an alien when I proudly tell them I support Falkirk. My uncle and cousin started bringing me when I was about 5. For about 10 years I went to just about every game home and away.
I quite like Man U. I was a bit pissed when Chelsea won the league last year.

I grew up supporting football, and so I've always had an interest in it. I quite like American Football (please call it what it is :moon:) I usually watch the Superbowl and find it quite a cool sport. We don't have too much interest in it over here because it's not played profesionally in our country.
I think the biggest drawback for American Football is the fact it's only played in North America. The whole world plays football and that allows for major international tounaments. You can't play international games of American Football because only 1 or 2 countries play it. I think a lot more people over here would be interested in American Football if we had our own major league.

Have you ever watched a game of AFL?
Title: Re: anyone gonna be watching the footbll?

no - it's too shitty to watch a whole game

the fact that in real football teams don't score all through the game is what makes it interesting. if they were scoring points continuously then it would be boring. the feeling you get when your team does score would be gone

That last minute win for the americans is what makes football so great. You could never beat that kind of feeling. I remember the 1999 champions league final when United were 1-0 down to Bayern Munich. Two corners in injury time and we win 2-1. You can't beat that kind of thing no matter how many points you win in american football

Last second victories are great in any sport.   Games that are 4 to 1 or 27 to 3 are not fun to watch imo.   I'd rather watch a close game that is decided in the final seconds.

I remember in 1996 my local NFL team (Jaguars) winning because the field goal kicker (Morton Anderson - who is normally great) from the opposing team fell down while he was attempting a kick as time expired.   That sent the Jags into the playoffs and they ended up being a part of one of the biggest upsets in NFL playoff history in the second round (against the Elway led Broncos).   My favorite Jaguars memory is Fred Taylor basically calling his shot by saying he is going to win the game by running over Mike Doss... and on the final drive of the game Taylor juked through the defensive line and ran right over Doss on his way to a 40 yard game winning touchdown against the favored Indianapolis Colts (fuck you Peyton Manning!!!).

Last second shots in basketball games can be epic as well.   I like watching Hockey more when it is in overtime, even though it is not sudden death.

Italy and France should both be done.   I think it is funny that the 2 teams in last year's World Cup final aren't even going to get past group play.

The close games are great, but it's also fun to watch an over rated and over hyped team get slaughtered by the underdogs.

True of any sport, in my playbook, but I have to admit that I have not followed the games.

In three words or less, who is winning what?

That's three words but it's pretty damned accurate.

Thank you and you have confirmed my reasoning for not watching any of the nonsense.

I actually tried to watch a bit a few days ago, but the sound in the stadium, "phasing between"  so many microphones, hurt my spacial senses very badly  and I began to feel as if I was being sucked down a drain. I could not stand any more. I had to turn it off.

I can not seem to focus upon the sounds of the action, but rather, I can not stop my own focus mostly from dwelling upon the sound of the problems they have broadcasting the event and the problems really hurt me.  (They need to learn to double their microphones in each position (even the mobile ones!) and set one of each pair out of phase with the other. This will stop the DOWN THE FUCKING DRAIN phasing issue, by eliminating "out of periphery distortion" of the audio spectrum through "combing distortion"  and phase cancellation determined by distance from the action and the other microphones. I FUCKING KNOW THIS, WHY DO NOT THESE SUPPOSED PROFESSIONALS, BROADCASTING THE MOST IMPORTANT EVENT IN FOOTBALL FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR, NOT KNOW THIS   ...---...  BASTARDS!!!)

Sorry, I can not watch without losing my cool and it has nothing to do with the games.

If the fucking American National Football League can use dual microphones for each location, at least fourteen games in fourteen locations each week, why can the World Cup broadcasters not?

I hate foreign sports for this reason alone! I even have trouble with watching my favorite, Formula One Racing, for this very reason.

There's too much talking on tv.With the build up to a match and then the talking about it afterwards. I just wanna watch the actual football without all the etra crap

Although with England games I sometimes like hearing what they have to say

Sound has never bothered me with footballl before. I've even been to matches in full stadiums (stadia doesn't sound right   ) and never really had any aspie problems like sensory crap

This particular WC is a bit annoying with the horn things tho.

The horns annoy the hell out of me. I can't listen to them so I end up either having the volume turned all the way down or shutting off the TV.

I do not mind the sportscasters, nor the fans enjoying themselves. I object to the lack of professional broadcasting techniques, making it almost unwatchable.

If there was a way, I might watch more, but as it is, I can not.

Incredibly boring match.   So much passing back and forth by Spain and Chile just lets them because they know they will advance too.   I wish that Chile would have tried to score.

I think Brazil will beat Chile and Portugal might be able to get past Spain.

I only watched the last 20 minutes because I saw you and Odeon not enjoying the game at all. And I got curious. Looked ugly indeed. As if there never was the fun to play.
I will be glad when all the orange is gone from the streets. One of my least favourite colours since I was a little kid.

I hardly ever watch football. Not really my game. (hardly ever watching sports) And I rarely find football attractive or exciting. Now it was just ugly. First thought the Spanish were playing just a little bit less worse. But after a while found both sides boring.

What happened in 1999, apart from you turning an awesome 11?

1988 I was about to move in to my new apartment with my now ex. But the people living in there before us, just could not move out, because they needed to see every damned football game the Dutch played in. Horrible excuse, but we just did not get the key. June 30th I had to be out of my room, my ex had to be out of his by then too. But, we could not move out. So, generous new tenant of my place gave us 4 m2 to live in and store our belongings in the shed for the time being.

Last thing we did in that house was watch the final of 1988, the day after the house we were to go in finally got empty. And we could move.

who won?

1999 was the year united won the treble (fa cup, premiership and champions league)

but it was amazing coz we were 1-0 down until 90mins
then in injury time we got a corner

schmeichel the goalkeeper came up for it and somehow sheringham got it in

and everyone was just like Yes, we will have extra time at least

but then we got ANOTHER corner, and solskjaer scored from it. with like 6 seconds left on the clock i think

so we won 2-1
amazing

i saw them come back on the bus with all the trophies too- went with my dad as they drove through stretford and old trafford   8)

that was an awesome year. i went to my first ever football match that season too (against everton where we won 3-1 i think- I was sat in the stretford end near the goal  8)

that was an awesome year. i went to my first ever football match that season too (against everton where we won 3-1 i think- I was sat in the stretford end near the goal  8)

The Dutch won, but for me being able to move out was the most important.

Was an exciting match though. It was fun to watch.

I just spent a frustrating 5 minutes trying to explain to someone who has mental retardation why we call it soccer and the rest of the world calls it football.  At one point I was turned around.  I'll stick to watching  curlilng.

With 1 game to go in the home and away rounds, Collingwood will finish top of the ladder ahead of Geelong.

Soph: Did I tell you I have a Man U shirt from the 09/10 season with Ryan Giggs' number 11? Plus I have the matching shorts as well.

giggs is great. I havent'  had a United shirt for years. I used to wear them all the time as a kid and teenager.  Mostly David Beckham ones. In 2002 they had a reversible shirt which was gold on one side and white on the other...pretty cool

Spain won the wrld cup btw, cbc

England are looking to host the 2018 one now. that would be fucking awesome

Some do. And then they get get drunk and think it's really funny to flash at woman and children. Rangers have the scummiest fans in Scotland. They'll find the centre of Manchester and they'll all stand there getting pissed singing bigoted anti-catholic songs. All the chavs in Scotland support either Rangers or Celtic.
Maybe I'm just biased, I support Falkirk.
