Title: geek help you guys
Post by: ZEGH8578 on May 18, 2010, 10:35:18 PM
k, i got this work computer from my dad, and
1. not too familiar w its performance
2. never had much need to worry about performance untill now, and i check my device manager and
it says

Processors:
Intel xeon cpu 3.20GHz
Intel xeon cpu 3.20GHz
Intel xeon cpu 3.20GHz
Intel xeon cpu 3.20GHz

NOW...
is this just a cruel joke? is that four TIMES 3.2?
or is it just 3.2 repeated four times for no reason other than to get my hopes up?

i am used to bad luck in life, especially cruel cruel jokes handed to me right from cosmos itself, so i dare not unleash my tears of joy untill i have it confirmed, or disconfirmed :I

my click-my-computer box says 3.2 and 3.19, but nothing more, which also confused me, so i checked my device manager, only to be further confused :I

Sounds like a dual xeon setup (Dell perhaps?). So you have 2, but due to hyperthreading each one will show 2 enteries.

Yeah, two dual cores running in tandem.

(says GA)

Just mail it to me and i'll take a look at it. I'll most likely not mail it back, because its not my responsibility if it gets "lost" or something.

Xeon processors are usually used in servers.   It is probably is 2 different dual cores running together.   I don't think it is a quad core.   Xeon processors are pretty beefy on their own IIRC.

good, i suspected as much, but didnt quite dare hope.
when i got it, it had everything except graphics card, so i got myself a relatively kickass one, and finally got the computer i needed to install my little minimum of "must have"'s to make my boring life a bit more tolerable :zoinks:
