I may be one of the few members who saw it in the original release in the US back in the what late 60's early 70's.  Between Satyricon,  Clockwork Orange, Easy Rider and Johnny Got His Gun my horizons were expanded.

Had a flash back just now to my parents going to San Francisco about that time for a convention and they went to see What's Behind the Green Door (not sure about the exact title), but parents a) aren't supposed to do that kind of thing and b) if they do they shouldn't share.  That was one bad side of the sexual revolution.

i hate them

people are so proud of black metal here, but it truly is one of the most repetitive genres in existence...

Black Metal rips off Death Metal musically, and not the good parts of Death Metal either.... just the trem picking and blast beats.   It gets redundant.   As far as theme.. it tries to relate back to Bathory and Venom.  Both band are pretty shitty imo.   I do like some of the synths/keyboards used in Black Metal.   At least the symphonic aspect is amusing.

Satyricon went in a more techno direction for a while when Satyr (vocalist) did his DJ thing.

haha i bet they reached their late 20s and decided to "mature and try new things" hahaha how lame

i tend to stick to an album at the time, i grew out of all angry music long ago, but mansons "antichrist superstar" and old cradle of filths "cruelty and the beast" both have a "special place in my heart", particularily manson, who now is a chubby douche w a horrendous haircut and a sudden interest in too young girls...

Cradle of Filth did the symphonic thing pretty early, as did Dimmu Borgir.   Vempire, Dusk and Her Embrace, and Cruelty and the Beast were good musically.   Dani Filth is a worthless piece of shit as a live vocalist though, and ruins the entire band with his faggotry.

Manson sucks ass, and rarely wrote a song that I could even begin to consider interesting.   Even on their first album, they were lame and cheesy bullshit.   The Church of Satan shit is stupid.

haha church of satan is lavey's tho, not manson. he was just so proud to become an "honorary member" :D

as for lyrics, i never bothered much w lyrics. theres not THAT much some depressed emo semi-junkie can teach me about life and reality. i just liked the feel and vibe of the album. plus it coincided very well w my own angsty teens ;D

i guess not being an english speaker, its easyer for me to "zone out" the lyrics, and just take in the sound

I meant his music is not interesting.  Manson's music is boring as fuck, lyrics aside.   More metal/rock generic shit on the first CD, and then he got more industrial metal pop crap later on.    The only reason why Manson is even noticeable is due to his stage antics and shock value.   Musically, they are just another band.   I like how they are thrown in with alternative rock, as if the fans of alternative rock know what the metrics for being an alternative rock band are specifically and what makes them so different from any other rock band.

The Church of Satan, and LaVey... and their followers are hilariously stupid.  Making a religion just to mock another religion is funny in concept, but ultimately a really stupid waste of time and effort.  Manson himself admitted to paying dues to the Church of Satan when interviewed on Howard Stern.   I equate Manson to a less talented rock version of Stern.    He basically made his money off of being controversial.

Bathory and Venom were good. So was Celtic Frost. The shit that gets passed off as "black metal" today just doesn't compare at all.

And most death metal is boring and shitty as fuck. Especially Cannibal Corpse, who never had a half-way decent riff or lyric, anyway.

Cannibal Corpse is gorecore and not really Death Metal.   I would say Death is a good example of Death Metal.   Carcass started out as a grindcore band, but later on transformed into Melodic Death Metal and became a good example of the genre.   Cannibal Corpse is an embarassment of a band, and same goes for most gorecore acts.

Bathory and Celtic Frost had their moments as decent bands. Celtic Frost was at its best being slow, plodding and brutal.  Quorothorn (spelling?) was a good guitar player and composed some interesting songs for Bathory outside of their regular thrashy metal stuff.   Venom was a shitty band, they aren't anything special, but rather a shitty thrash metal band that coined the term "Black Metal".   Hypocrisy's cover of the song "Black Metal" was blacker and darker than the original by a long shot.   Still a crap song that was written by an even crappier band.

all true, which is why i said "special place in my heart" WITH the "'s ;]

ive had some half-assed debates with "laveyan satanists", and their main difficulty is not grasping that what they call "satan" allready has a name, well, many names, "common sense", "egoism" etc. but they call it "satan" instead, so that they can shock the hell out of their parents and grannies (i said "hell")

in my teen years i did get talked into accepting an invitation to OTO trondheim. they took great pride in being "much more serious" satanists, such as not refering to satan directly, but instead regurgitating re-designed egyptian mythology  ::)
the best part about oto and thelema however is: they use robes and wands!!! LIKE HARRY POTTER!! :zoinks:

also, among religions, they create the worst personalities, comparable to scientologists really... ill take a muslim AND a jew any day, before a "satanist" or "thelemite"
