Title: Tigger_the_Wing's intro thread
Post by: Tigger_the_Wing on February 02, 2010, 03:53:26 PM
OK, so having been told off for not properly introducing myself when I joined yesterday, :facepalm2: I have finally found this forum.

I was finally influenced to join I2 by real-life friends Sir Les and Hykeaswell.

As I explained elsewhere, I am an autistic grandmother, married for 30 years to an Aspie IT bloke, mother to four Aspie sons and an NT daughter (I wonder how that happened? ??? ). My daughter's son is ADHD and her stepson is HFA/Aspie. My other grandson is Aspie and (probably) so is his step-brother.

Being on the spectrum is my family's 'normal'; it goes back generations (my father, his father…) and spreads out sideways across the world.

A keen motorcyclist virtually my whole life (I used to ride to school aged 5 on the back of my father's BSA bantam) I had to give up riding for health reasons three years ago (after a heart attack at work, on a motorbike) and driving (which I also loved, having been a taxi driver for ten years) two years ago.

Any questions? (http://s370.photobucket.com/albums/oo146/Tig_the_Wing/Smilies/NatureBouncingTigger.gif)

Hi all! Thanks for the welcome!

I read that you live in Australia but you are not from there.  Where are you from originally?

I was born in London and raised in Kent. I moved around the south of England for a bit and then moved to Ireland. I arrived in Australia in Feb 2005 intending to stay for six months. Like everything else in this country, those six months are HUGE and will be the equivalent of six YEARS of anyone else's time!  :green:

Not overly sensitive, no.

I will avoid the more contentious threads.  ;)

I will, however, stand up for things that I believe in. But I'm prepared to turn a blind eye to stuff that is none of my business.

And to think I was put off joining for years by rumours that this place was unfriendly…  :duh:

We can be unfriendly. You just have to be tough and we don't take in whiners or we rip them apart. If KenM joined here, we probably be ripping him apart if he kept complaining about women being demons and him going on about double standards and people not saying what they mean, same as about god giving him AS and diabetes and him whining about his doctors telling him how to live his life. I know I would. I'll bet Hale Bop being saying worse things to him than she did at WP.

Good plan of attack with reading threads. Having said that you know I am very sensitive and I manage OK .... though sometimes I do cry into my pillow at night  :P

Hi Tigger,

Do you really have your own plane?

I ask this because an old dear friend (RIP Bill) used tohave a plane in his backyard. Until his wife made him choose between it and the Quonset hut.
Where he stored (amongst many, MANY other things) the parts for assembling a 1926 Model T.

But that's a whole slew of stories for other times....

Not a plane, no. A GoldWing is merely a rather large motocycle (see my avvie pic). I love flying but could never get enough money together to afford the hours needed for a pilot's license and now I'm not well enough to be in charge of anything more powerful than a bicycle.  :'(

My sister-in-law's dad has a small airplane in his backyard out in the country and he built himself a hangar and an airstrip for it.  He and his wife also built a very nice house for themselves out of the trees that were on the property.  My brother and sister-in-law bought the house and the land it sits on from them when the stairs got to be too much for her mom to handle anymore and they live in it now.

I didn't mean to be a nag about the introductory-thread thing, and meant no criticism; honest! I just wanted to make sure that I hadn't overlooked it if there had been one. Uhhh, I'm Aspie that way? :eyelash:

Anyway, welcome again! I'm also an married older female Aspie living in Australia who didn't originally come from there (Canadian-born, myself). One of the foremen in one of the places I used to work owned a Honda Gold Wing, and we all drooled a little bit whenever we went past it in the parking lot. In a previous thread here on Intensity, I was telling how my husband decided that he and I should not get Ducatis as part of our midlife crisis, and it was suggested that I should immediately have filed for divorce.... Or forcibly dragged him to a Ducati dealership on the spot, perhaps. ;D

My first impressions of I^2 were inaccurate; anyone with a rhino hide and a sense of humour can find a lot to enjoy here. Make yourself at home!

No need to cower, I wasn't feeling nagged (and certainly wouldn't retaliate if I did) - I just like to exaggerate the "Oops, I've made another social faux pas…" thing! (Because it ultimately doesn't matter, on the internet, but I do like to make a reasonable first impression!)

Besides, if it comes to furniture wars, I've got a whole sofa to hide behind! (http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/oo146/Tig_the_Wing/Smilies/SmileyScaredSofa.gif)

What bike do you ride at the moment? I was a postie in Adelaide and used to ride a little Moto Guzzi 750 to work.

Here it is, with me sitting on it in the garden about ten months after I had to give up riding (I've since cut off all my hair for charity):

I have an old pushbike in the garage collecting dust. After riding a jet-ski for the first time, during the middle of last year, I reckon a motorbike would be fun.

Oh, I'd love to try a jetski!

IMO, motorbikes are the most fun you can have on the road on two wheels. I happen to think that the fun is multiplied enormously by adding a third, but that's just me!

That happens when one shaves one's head and ages a couple of years or so (and I realised I'm not smiling in the second photo).

So you're younger in the photo with short hair and older in the one with long hair?

No, the photo of me with long hair on the motorbike was taken in September 2007 (age 49), the photo of me with short hair I took this morning with my laptop camera (age 52).

Mine has a sidecar, so no problems with low temperatures/ice/snow.

I would be riding today but for two minor inconveniences: it's on the other side of the planet and I had my licence taken away for health reasons.

I hope you like it here. Sorry you took so long to join. I too was very hesitant, but hopefully you will get something out of being here.

Sorry Eclair I don't think she will be around much but I am going over there for Sunday Night dinner as is the custom and will let her know you say Hi.

She is homesick for Ireland and has been for a long time. She hates the heat. She loves kangaroo meat and has some really close friends here. I am lucky enough to be one and my kids see her as a bit of a granny figure.

She is a hell of a lady. Still sounds very British but I have tried introducing a bit of Australia lingo in her repertoire  :2thumbsup:

Yeah she is already on it and jumped on it after a long D & M.  :zoinks:
She is a member of a lot of forums and will mainly drop in to PM me or Hykes I think.
She originally made this account because after my car crash a month ago I stayed at her house for a couple of nights directly after to settle down the kids and then did not get back to her for a few nights. She was stressed out about me and knew where to find me here. :P

She is a really good sort though and likes this assorted crowd, she is just crook and time poor.

Hi Eclair, just got a phone call from Les* who told me you had posted here.

Good points about Australia? Predictable weather, wildlife found nowhere else, the food… (Kangaroo is delicious! (http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/oo146/Tig_the_Wing/Smilies/kangaroo.gif))

Bad points about Australia? Predictable weather, wildlife found nowhere else, the food…  ;)

Like most places I've lived in on this planet, it is possible to enjoy it or be miserable; the difference being the attitude of the person having the experience, not the experience itself.

But then again… (http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/oo146/Tig_the_Wing/Smilies/SmileyFlagIreland.gif)

Les, don't you be letting too much info out about me, will you? Or I'll be forced to undermine your carefully built-up reputation here with the truth…  :evillaugh:

No, I just prefer V-twins to be laterally mounted (Ducatti, SV-650) instead of transverse. It makes no sense to me.

Yes, but it's still an obsolete engine design. Wasn't that engine originally on a small tractor or something??

Anyways, the best road bike out there, hands down, is the Kawasaki Concours.    8)
