Title: Facebook
Post by: renaeden on October 11, 2009, 02:49:59 AM
Who here uses Facebook? My sisters all use it and so does GA.

I am doing an assignment now, writing a report on an article, "Popularity fuels disclosure on Facebook." Do any of you think this is true? I find it amazing that a lot of people worry about security yet still post their full names and other personal details on Facebook.

Some people post their whole lives on Facebook, which would make it very easy for someone to stalk them.

I don't put my bank details on it - but I would be easy to stalk by anyone at my university or one of the 500 and some people on my friend lists. The thing is, having friends makes you safer from deviant personalities, plus I could be stalked anyway.

I think having 500 people on your friends list makes it more likely that one of them could be that "deviant personality" you fear.

I think most people these days just add everyone they ever knew.  I mean, I don't speak to 3/4 of the people on my friends list.  Nor do I like most of them particularly.

I don't have it set to high security, but then thankfully I also have an extremely common name, like Jane Smith. So if anyone's wanting to find me specifically, they'll have to hunt through all the other same names as mine.  8)

I'm not particularly active either. I use it more to keep up with a small handful of friends. And I only have people on my friends list who I know (either good online friends or people irl).

Main thing is never post on FB something you wouldn't want your employer (current or future) to know about you.

I know 500 people irl, the nature of this place is that there are going to be deviant backstabbing personalities about, Facebook or not. But, I unlike you, am not totally paranoid. Shit can happen, accept it.

Argh you are one of those people that tells a little bit of the story and no more.

I haven't got a Facebook account. My real name isn't anywhere on the internet. I guess that is one of the reasons why I am ok about posting about myself here.

I've started posting more about myself in relation to my name. Given the field of work I'm going into, my name will end up on the net in relation to my work. I just need to make sure that the personal details I don't want associated with my name stays separate from it.

Mainly to keep in touch with IRL people.

I'm going to delete a bunch of random internet people.

I should stop adding people I don't know... they can add me to myspace. Facebook is for IRL people and good online friends. One guy got my msn details off facebook and added me. Better disable that now actully.

I don't use facebook to meet people and its going to stay that way.

I have facebook. I only accept friends request from people I know. I do not take strangers. You can customize your friends too by limiting what they can see on your facebook.

I also have my profile set to private so only friends can see. You can't see anything on my facebook.

I prefer people to tell me who they are when they add me. I always look at their profiles to see who they are when they send me a friends request. My old class mates usually have their profiles open for anyone to view and I can recognize them and I see their name and I accept their friends request.

I have denied friends before because I didn't know who they were. Even their profiles didn't hint it.

I now hide all reports of games, first thing I do coming on FB is hiding new ones. Iit looks a lot better.

I also left this message on my profile:
Quote
I am hiding almost all games. Makes this page so much easier on my eyes. So, if you really want to share your fishing or farming results with me, you will have to mail me, to proudly brag about it.

So far, no one has mailed me to proudly brag about their gaming.

A friend of mine was telling me about when he joined.  Someone he knew was playing that farmville game or what ever and posted they had 135 paving stones to give away that they didn't need he didn't realize it was a game and called and asked when he could pick them up to expand his patio and got mad at them when they told him it was just a game.  He has since blocked all the games

Apparently some of my old school friends have Facebook accounts but I have no desire to speak with them. They were the ones who thought they were too good for everyone else at school and are now living in the burbs criticising others. I have only a couple of friends left from school that I've maintained regular contact with and one of them caught them on Facebook the other night being bitchy about him.

I'm a bit pissed off about it actually and would like to put them in their place, but that is exactly the reason why I hate Facebook. Fake people pretending to be fake friends with each other.

I know that's not always the case, for sure and it does have it's place. Two of the girls who are chummy chummy on there hated each other at school, with a passion. So hilarious.

No, just fakey ass kissers, nothing more sinister than that! One used to call the other a whore, and the *whore* used to call the other one a prim and proper virgin. I was friends with both these girls until about 10 years ago. They are basically still in high school with their attitude.

I'd only go to a school reunion if I was successful. I have absolutely no desire otherwise to make people think im just some oddball loser still. Most people rom my school i'm better off not knowing, lets keep it that way. I've declined friend requests from school people who never had anything to do with me, some which even bullied me for OCD rituals I had at high school. How can they honestly expect I want them on my facebook?  :duh:

Had I graduated I would probably attend one reunion.

After cashing in on some favors owed...I would have the transportation, the designer clothes, & the accessories to pull off a very good snow job on a bunch of little cheerleading bitches that haven't seen me in over 20 some years and live at least a state away from me.

I would probably dine, take a few pictures, and then ride off into the sunset.

Fuck that chance for "renewed friendships", we're talking revenge.

Yeah its not even worth that, most of the girls who thought i was a freak have a whole lot of kids at 25 now.. seems failure to me, what a boring life. I never had problems with the cheerleader type, some were obviously stuck up, but no-one agreed with their issues so it doesn't matter.
There was one very average girl who was really nasty to me who ended up getting pregnant at 16 to some pimply boy who shes now married to, so its just funny imo.

lol the people you hated are probably in the same boat.

Some people however, it doesn't matter how successful you've become, you'll always be scum and a freak. No point worrying about them.
