I'm a huge fan of classic rock. Just wondering who else can join me. ;)
I like everything from the 70's up to the big hair bands of the 80's.
What's your favourite song/band?
-
I don't really get into classic rock. More into the early/mid-nineties alternative/grunge stuff.
Which, I guess, could be considered classic rock now.
-
Given the fact that we're not that far off from 2010, you're probably right. ;)
Favourite bands?
-
Hmmm...
Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Hum, Cake, Pearl Jam, etc.
Also like a lot of the newer rock like Chevelle, Seether, Revis, etc.
...and a lot of stuff inbetween. 80s and 90s gangster rap, Rat Pack, bagpipe music, 80s pop.
-
Music is my obsession. I listen to everything but death metal and punk. Everything else is on my list. 8) Right now I'm on a classic rock kick but it changes depending on my mood.
I'm obsessive about making playlists. I make them according to mood/experience. It's how I cope/think/chill/process. ;)
-
What program do you use?
How about live music? That's one of the things I love about Minneapolis. Lots of music fests and good bands to see. I saw Seven Mary Three and Spin Doctors a couple years ago, and Alice in Chains a couple years ago. Awesome shows.
-
I use iTunes. It keeps everything I buy in check along with everything that I
don't download. ;)
I'm in the process of starting a blog to keep track of my playlists because I had a second generation iPod and the hard drive crashed so I lost my lists and given that it's my obsession I had a meltdown over it. :P
So I figure I need to organize it through an outside source. Of course, other people could probably not care less, but whatever. ;)
Love seeing bands live. It gives me a huge rush. Lately I've seen Cyndi Lauper, The Cliks, Indigo Girls, Finger Eleven (friends of mine), Elton John, Billy Joel, and a bunch of jazz bands. I've seen a lot of bands live. It's my favourite thing to do but I don't have anyone to go with here so I don't go as much as I want to.

I always wondered why they made their best album after he died. Its cause for the first time, Angus and co actually put some effort in. I love hearing the passion in the build up of Hells Bells.
-
Rush,Doors,Yes,Grateful Dead and lots of others Never got into the hair bands though
-
I had a typo. Love the 60's too. I'm trying to figure out why I thought I should start a thread about this while I had my second glass of wine last night.
-
Eagles.
-
Rush,Doors,Yes,Grateful Dead and lots of others Never got into the hair bands though
Huh...that reminds me that I haven't pulled out my Grateful Dead stuff in awhile.

Why not punk? :( What about post-punk?
-
I don't know. I guess I just never got into it. Give me some band names. It's been a long time since I've listened to it. Or maybe I already have punk bands in my list but didn't know they were considered punk. :P
-
First of all, post-punk:

Also Gang of Four, Bauhaus, Wire, The Fall, Magazine etc.
As for punk:

This song just makes me larf
-
Eagles.
I need to listen to their greatest hits more, before I actually declare them as overrated.

Yeah, listen to the stuff that doesn't get much radio play. Although saying that, I never get tired of Take It To The Limit.
-
I will.
Early REM is very underrated. They are the closest thing to the Beatles. Not fucking Oasis.
-
People think Oasis is like the Beatles? seriously? That's ridiculous.
-
Cause Liam Gallagher copies John Lennon, and the Beatles are their idols. Lennon would've hated that prick.
-
That's just bizarre. I've never heard that before and wouldn't have even though to compare the too. You have an idol? Cool. Every musician does, but that doesn't mean you're anywhere near being as good as the people you admire. Plus, you've got to strike out on your own and do your own thing.
Although saying that, The Tea Party does sound quite a bit like Led Zeppelin. I wonder where they buggered off to. I haven't heard them in ages.
-
You called?
Zeppelin, AC/DC, Rush, Boston, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Sabbath, B.O.C, Aerosmith, etc

CG, don't you like Ian Curtis then? :(

A friend of mine passed away a few weeks ago (he knew he was dying) and he made them play B.O.C's "Fear The Reaper" at the service. Plus, everyone was to drink scotch.
-
I haven't listened to Joy Division yet. I'm about to put the kids to bed and then I'll check them out. 8)
-
I have plenty of musical idols!
Lol, Ice, why out of all the AC/DC songs did you put that one?
-
I wouldn't just put the kids to bed if you're gonna listen to Joy Division, i'd put all sharp objects away too.
-
Would you go check your PM's and keep yourself busy so you don't piss everyone off in the 10 mins it takes me to put the kids bed? I have nothing to do tonight and I'd actually like to have people to talk to when I get back. :P

My Ian Curtis obsession has subsided somewhat, lately :-\ It sucks when they go away
-
Sometimes they come back

Does anyone know what happened to Celticgoddess?

I just went a-lurking on The Drivel to see if she were still active there, and yes she was — as of March, anyway. Greetings, CG, if you're reading this. :)

She dropped in in the shoutbox here a week ago or so. Not up to much on-line stuff, enough on her plate in daily life.

Aha. Thanks for the update. I read some of her old posts re probs with her ex, so wondered how that panned out for her. Hopefully it will sort itself out.
I tried to join the Drivel a few months back, but never got approved....no response, no reason given.

Ah, you'd probably love seeing my 2.5yo daughter trying to sing along to The Beatles ever since we got Beatles Rock Band. I even started downloading the old Beatles cartoon and she's really into that too.

Who else remembers this one-hit-wonder band??

I remember Zebra, and I'm almost certain I saw them in concert too. Sugarbutt and I have been to more concerts than I could ever count or remember though, so I'd have to ask him to be sure. He's the music buff so he remembers them all.
