I posted a link about this the other day but no one commented on it
Opinions?
Was it right that it was replaced with an interview because it was not tailored to US audiences?

No. It's a bit flippin cheeky. I think it should have been shown as one piece, interrupting it with an interview seems a bit rude and insensitive considering the subject matter!
Perhaps NBC do that to a lot of it's foreign material - if so, then, well i guess they were just doing what they normally do.
Wouldn't the BBC have had to make some kind of an agreement about it, though?
-
if they do, then theyre not really broadening the minds of their viewers. the olympics is supposed to be an international thing. not bothering to try to understand something just because its from another country seems very closed minded.
also can u imagine the fuss if the bbc had cut a tribute to 9-11 to show a david beckham interview or something?

:indeed:
I would like to know, though, if the beeb gave them permission beforehand, if they did they are out of order.

I have no idea wht the rules are regarding that
but apparently NBC usually edit stuff like that because it's for american audiences or something, so i'm guessing it was allowed
it seems stupid really, even ignoring the fact that it was incredibly insensitive. i mean surely the whole point of the opening ceremonies is that the country hosting it respresents their history etc etc etc. so you'd expect it to not be geared towards one particular country.
-
I hope it wasn't the only channel in America that aired it. Perhaps the others didn't edit it?

Unless that one country is the only one that matters :M

Oh goodie, it's been a while since we've bashed America. :bint:

I hardly think bashing NBC = bashing America

Agreed. NBC is a heartless, theiving (http://splitsider.com/2012/05/an-open-letter-to-jay-leno-about-stealing-my-video-and-then-getting-it-removed-from-youtube/) corporation.

Fuck NBC! I don't really give two shits where they are.
If i was an American i would be annoyed that the news channel think they know which bits to edit out on my behalf!
-
They've really been milking everything about the olympics by delaying everything until primetime and switch back-and-forth between events. Also, they've been showing their crappy new fall shows instead of secondary events.

I forgot that the chairman of NBC started Autism Speaks. Fuck that channel.
