Excuse the n00b,
but how does the "karma" system work on this board?
-
You can choose to applaud anyone or smite them every hour. Every applause gives you a point and every smite takes away one. As you can see your karma's plus one at the moment.
-
I had six but started tleling people to smit me and went down to two almost immediately. I'm hoping to get in the double digits. Positive or negative, it doesn't matter, but it means I'm making na impression.

Nah, it just would mean everyone agrees about what they think of you. And why would you want everyone to agree on something?
-

agree about something...

I don't think he gets it.
Shooperer. (How's that for an obscure literary reference?)
-
I think the goal is to not care one way or another, but I would enjoy a negative number (smite me!). ;D

It's so obscure it only gets three hits on google, non of them explanatory.

It's from this book (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0140376410/ref=ed_oe_p/104-7149817-0035903?%5Fencoding=UTF8) and probably only recognizable to kids who had absolutely no life outside the library.
Basically a person whose greatest talent is saying the thing most likely to start up an argument all over again.
