Title: Ask the next person something?
Post by: lutra on July 17, 2011, 01:31:24 PM
Might very well be another similar tread around here already but.. (hey)

Well, simplex.. just ask the next poster anything, (something silly, something more serious or what have you.. suit self), and maybe another member will answer the question asked..

I'll start with a simple starter, asking..

~

When barbecuing: What would be your favourite thing to prepare and eat from the BBQ? Or rephrased: What's your favourite BBQ food?

(Oh, and don't forget to ask a new question after answering previous one!)

Being from Santa Maria, that answer has to be Tri-Tip steaks.

Q. for next poster:

Who is your favorite Greek philosopher and why?

Um, that's a tough one for me. Like with music/art/architecture/things.. I also tend to be considerably eclectic and pick parts from expressed philosophies that I read about too.

(um, fav=one=?) Well, if I were to pick one off the top of my head now I'd say, Xenophanes.. and this, for his brilliant anthropomorphic god critique.

We know very little about the chap but he stating (read via others) that if one could hypothetically ask a horse to paint or describe, (if possible).. 'god' in 'its own wording/imagination'.. he thought a horse would describe/paint a big strong, rightful, honest, good virtued, etc.... horse.

(or other cattle members)

Others may subtract other broths from his, a bit more elaborating explanation, but to me it proves that.. yeah, not just beauty but.. ALL is in the eye of the beholder.

Um, searching for the truth here.. (thinking that's best.. )

~

If you had to choose between McDonalds, KFC, Burger King or let's say your local Chinese take away.. What would you pick?

True.

And they are quite meek, when getting their hooves trimmed.

Us cows have sexy feet, we don't need shoes.

(Horses that walk on paved or hardened path, especially with a load on their back, need extra protection. Their hooves might wear out too fast, and too uneven without protection. That's what they told me when I asked the question why they don't shoe cows)

A: Cornflakes.

Q.  what would you like to say to your old school teachers?
Title: Re: Ask the next person something?
Post by: Trigger 11 on July 22, 2011, 04:57:46 AM
A) Most were cool. I used to regularly visit some of them. There is one I'd like to her that she is an idiot and to go fuck herself. She's the one in 8th grade who saw me hit my hand on the table and my friend pretend like I hit him and decided to send me to the principal's office after I argued I didn't hit him with everyone else backing me up. But I said, "This is stupid!" She wanted to hear, "You're stupid!" Last week of of Middle School was spent in ISS. Aspie moment maybe? Wasn't a diagnosis back then.

Q) Would you want to redo stuff in your childhood knowing now what you know about yourself?
Title: Re: Ask the next person something?
Post by: lutra on July 26, 2011, 09:10:01 AM
I think so, yes.. but since that's not really possible I have changed my perception on some of the things that happened. Cut myself some slack and don't blame myself as much as I've done before. Plus kinda accepted stuff.

What's you ideal pet?
Title: Re: Ask the next person something?
Post by: lutra on July 26, 2011, 03:41:56 PM
Ideal would be cat probably.. for the creature goes about/cares about its own business most of the time but character-wise the dog suits me way better.

Um, no wish to own a ferret and they're not exactly 'pet-material' but to befriend some belonging to the Mustelidae family (other than the ferret) would be very very cool, I think.

Title: Re: Ask the next person something?

I would say we are biologically weak, and emotionally beautiful. I would say we know not what we do, or how we effect each other, and we always seem to be our own worst enemy. Most of all, I would say that our biggest flaw is that we think we are alone and disconnected from the world, and there is something in our brains that makes us think that we are seperate from the world, and we cannot realie that everything we could ever want is already inside of us.

Yes. Definately a greater good. Its worth doing something bad, if it stops something worse happening. Like drowning Hitler, or Chris Martin at birth would have been evil, but it would have made the world much better.

@Lucia. I just likr discus fish. I wanted one when I was a kid. They have lovely colours.

Well, I don't have that many bad dreams in general though but this recurring one sprang to mind. Had this type of dreams on numerous occasions in my puberty days. Probably stress related back then. Fear of failing maybe. Where is Jung when you need him?  :zoinks:

I cannot think of anyone. Don't think I have heroes.

Well, I have some mice residing in my garden and one of them seems not very scared of me. Kinda brave s/he goes fetching some of the food I left whilst I'm less than a meter (3.3 feet) away from it. Can't watch the little creature too closely though.. I think it starts doubting if I'm not a predator after all.

Cannot paint the picture here but it's absolute fun to see the little mouse competing for the food with the dunnock.

Depends what is the most prestigious. If it's the AFL Grand Final, then Collingwood should win, as they are favourites. NRL (rugby league) should be won by Melbourne Storm. Won't know who is running the Melbourne Cup til at least Oct. and I don't know of may other prestigious events.

Nah, all silliness aside.. maybe my hands. Used to like my hands, they're quite 'expressive'. And, despite hands of others distract me quite often (let's say whilst communicating) I'd say I like hands in general.

^  What would you do with a ball of yarn and an apple?

I would attach one end of the thread to the apple and throw it in a field where a couple of horses graze. With every attempt of a horse to eat the apple I pull the apple a little towards me and see how the horse(s) would react.

Which season you like best? And which season is least favourite according to you?
Title: Re: Ask the next person something?
Post by: Trigger 11 on August 05, 2011, 09:28:30 AM
A) Spring. Calm temperatures with warm rain showers and the start of baseball. Winter is myleast favorite with Summer a close second. I love snow, but when it ain't snowing I could do without the freezing temperatures. Summer seems to drag on and when it is in the upper 90s and higher it just isn't worth it and you have to stay inside. Fall is great like Spring, plus you get October baseball, assuming the Red Sox are playing. :headbang2:

A) I generally know the common names. Sparrows, Turkey Vultures, Black Birds, Crows, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Canadian Geese, Mallard Ducks, Golden Eagles, Bald Eagles, Orioles, Roadside Hawks, Yellow Finches, Crows, Morning Doves, Cat Birds, etc. Close enough anyway.

Q) What kinds of reptiles and amphibians do yiu have around you?
Title: Re: Ask the next person something?
Post by: lutra on August 06, 2011, 09:04:46 AM
Not a lot of snakes here in Holland. Not sure but I thought there are only 3 native species of them here.. and they're quite rare all 3 of them. There are also some small lizards and yeah, they're not very common either.

Well, the word common is somewhat ambiguous. What's common here probably isn't as common in the US or Australia for instance. Species we don't have at all and vice versa.

Amphibians and salamanders: Um? Ah, a link maybe? (a simple Dutch wiki one)

http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lijst_van_amfibie%C3%ABn_in_Nederland (http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lijst_van_amfibie%C3%ABn_in_Nederland)
(native = inheems, frog = kikker, toad = pad, rare = zeldzaam, common = algemeen)

Apart from birds, shamefully Holland hasn't a great variety of animals, I'm afraid.

~

In Holland/the Netherlands we have almost no wild animal that could seriously harm a human being. Out of the top of my head: wolf spider, tic, wasp, hornet, mosquito and adder.. (?) that's it.. and they of course aren't life threatening at all.

Um, question is: where you live, the nearby area, are there any wild animals (insects, spiders, snakes, big mammals, etc.) that could seriously harm a human being coming in contact with them?
Title: Re: Ask the next person something?
Post by: Trigger 11 on August 06, 2011, 09:12:41 AM
A) Black Widow and Brown Recluse spiders mainly. Also some snakes like the Northern Copperhead, Timber Rattlesnake, and the Eastern Cottonmouth.

Q) Do you kill bugs or set them free?
Title: Re: Ask the next person something?
Post by: bodie on August 06, 2011, 11:05:24 AM
A.  Only thing i kill  -  the fly.  I detest flies.
I don't go anywhere near spiders, so they are safe and i watch all other bugs with interest but don't
mess with them.   I also do 'moth rescue'  to the ones that make the mistake of landing in sink!

Q.  What subject are you most knowledgeable about?
Title: Re: Ask the next person something?

A) Academically...Physics and Mathematics. Other...Star Wars and Boston sports teams. Can't teally delineate between the two in each group.

Q) If you had supet powers, would you use them for good or evil or just waste them?
Title: Re: Ask the next person something?

Depends on my mood. And what other people refer to as good or evil. Getting rid of drugs by using super powers might be good for me, but the cunts who deal them might not be impressed.

Is it really a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll?

Left wing but it's a bit more complex/less one or the other here. Holland has a poly-party-political system with over 10 pol. parties to choose from every 4 years (or sooner when they fuck up). I use to vote for parties on the left side though which have nature/ecology high on their agenda.

What clothes (style) do you feel most comfortable in?
Title: Re: Ask the next person something?
Post by: lutra on August 12, 2011, 03:34:43 PM
Dunno, hard to pin it down and give the style a name, I feel. Well, clothes got to be comfortable for me but also a bit stylish. Simple, most preferably made of (really 100%) cotton and no 'fancy' stuff like multi many colours or too bright/light colours. I don't consider having certain brands that important but I prefer okay/good quality clothes over the cheap stuff.

E.g. I don't mind buying shoes that much but qua clothes: Which item you (really) dislike having to buy and which one you're okay with? (going out to buy/visiting stores/you know)

Harvested none this year and trimmed the plant shortly after its flowers faded. Id like to see some cities, like Paris anf Prague. Venice looks lovely, but it might be too touristy. Amsterdam obviously is interesting  for its nightlife.

Id like to see Angor Wat in Cambodia.
And so many more that I cant even think of, but Im scared of flying

Which historical figure are you most like?

A)  Eleanor of Aquitane.  I named the Princess Royal after her.

Courageous every time. Wisdom would be OK, but I don't want to be serene.

Q) Do you play or have you ever played any musical instruments?

Yes, I play the piano. Not professionally.. but I love my old piano and play poppy/jazzy tunes on it. Played bass and guitar too but I hardly ever do that any more.

No way. Im a hopeless cook. I can cook a few meals, the most complex being a fry-up, but my favourite meals are Indian, Chinese, and a few meals my aunt cooks.

The concept of bigotry.
The world would be better without racism, religious intorrerance, sexism, and homophobia. These things have torn apart countries, and destroyed countless lives over the years.

Did OJ Simpson do it?

A) Rush for over 2,000 yards? Yes! Of course he did it!

Title: Re: Ask the next person something?

I might, yes. I mean an awkward evening, with some fun hopefully too (why not?), in exchange for some 'roaming freedom' for over a decade (?) doesn't sound that bad.

Okay, evening's over, you got an open briefcase filled with 1 million dollar on your lap, gazing at it, dreaming..

What would you do with such a stash of money?
Title: Re: Ask the next person something?

A) Buy a better, larger home for my minions. Convert my car to run on solar energy powered batteries. Put the rest away in investments for my minions' future.

Q) Would you flash your bouncy parts to a total stranger passing by?

Q: What are your experiences with illegal drugs ?

It was only recreational as in never got into doing it at home.  Mostly e's and
whizz - to keep me dancing!  Weed i couldn't touch again after i was very sick
one night and only did magic mushrooms a couple of times because a fucking
huge bee would appear, and i couldn't shake off the mo fo.  Years ago now, but
i don't regret it.

Title: Re: Ask the next person something?
Post by: bodie on August 30, 2011, 02:31:11 PM
A.  When my friend Clare moved out of the apartment she was renting she got me to
go and prank them.   It was a really lovely flat, in a very snooty area and one woman
in particular had been horrible to my mate!  So i gathered all the doormats on both
floors,  about 35 i think,  and i neatly piled them up outside the snooty womans
door.  A pointless, silly, excersise but fuck did it make me laugh!

Q.  What is your favourite month of the year?

would I pay a person for sex. Well, it would have to be someone that I really really really wanted and there was no way I could get it. There are only a few people on earth with that power. I mean it would have to be a really hot famous guy from a Metalcore band or something :D

Would you visit a nudist beach. (and actually go nude, not just perv)?
Title: Re: Ask the next person something?
Post by: lutra on August 31, 2011, 01:54:31 PM
Beaches for nudists aren't really my thing. Well, I tend to like being naked myself but I really don't fancy seeing others naked. Yeah, fit looking girls, sure.. but, in my opinion, there are mostly wrinkled and somewhat over-weighing people on such (non-private) beaches. (um, maybe my perception is a bit off there though).

In general, I'd say no, I guess. Don't think I like to be around naked men much.

I am sure you mean some sort of awakening ? well I did LSD for the first time when I was 18 and that changed me. I mean not only my personality slightly but I think it changed my brain chemistry. And I moved out of my mothers house 3 days before I turned 18 and went to the big old city and have been on my own ever since. Is that realizing myself ? I was like 9 years old when I knew I was sexually attracted to urine. That must be a realization.

so my answer is - 9 years old

No, I am haunted by my previous embarrassments.  I feel them more acutely now than I did at the time they were happening, as I usually didn't realize I did something to be embarrassed about until years later.

Very much so. My great aunt has been in the "final stages" of senile dementia for a couple of years now. She would not have wanted to live like tjis, shitting herself, with the faculties of a newborn baby. She is not allowed to die with what tiny shred of dignity she has left.
This is one of my pet issues. I would never want to live like that.

If I say I think that it's not that unlikely the AS-gen originated in the North Western part of Europe (p/m above protestant/catholic Europe's division line), would you be surprised or offended maybe?
Title: Re: Ask the next person something?

Certainly not offended, but maybe surprised. Although AS can often be hereditary, I assumed that it was caused by genetic mutations, meaning that there's no common genetic link between us aspies. I would expect that people who originate in the southern hemisphere are every bit as likely to suffer this mutation, although obviously they may be less likely to be diagnosed.

O Promise Me is one of my favorites from 1889.

Oh, promise me that someday you and I
Will take our love together to some sky
Where we can be alone and faith renew,
And find the hollows where those flowers grew,
Those first sweet violets of early spring,
Which come in whispers, thrill us both, and sing
Of love unspeakable that is to be;
Oh, promise me! Oh, promise me!

Oh, promise me that you will take my hand,
The most unworthy in this lonely land,
And let me sit beside you in your eyes,
Seeing the vision of our paradise,
Hearing God's message while the organ rolls
Its mighty music to our very souls,
No love less perfect than a life with thee;
Oh, promise me! Oh, promise me!

I think that it would be the day my husband and I got married and the day our daughter was born.  If it were a specific moment, I think it would have to be the moment she cried like a mewing kitten right after the doctor slipped her cord that had been wrapped around her neck four times over her head while he counted, "One, two, three, four."

Same question.

Well, think I 'blocked out' quite a few of bad memories but the day my farther died and later his burial were quite bad days. It's a shame, looking back now, we cannot talk about autism, how it was for him being younger and cos of lots of other things also of course. The day I fully realised it was basically I who fucked up a beautiful relationship with Maartje and that it was I who basically broke my own heart that severely.. was the beginning of a sad period too.

In dealing with applied science like titration or checking a lighting circuit yes, it can be objectively true that pH 3.4 or 7 is repeatable or that the light circuit works as designed. With respect to what people do or don't perceive in interactions definite no. Your soon to be trade relies on that.

Did anything besides chance lead you to your current occupation?

Cows and colours. I arranged colours all the time. And I needed names for in between colours at an early age. Funny, my oldest had that too. She could talk about turquoise at an age where her peers were still having difficulty telling what was red or yellow.

Title: Re: Ask the next person something?
Post by: Phoenix on September 16, 2015, 05:13:35 PM
To be in a cottage by the lake with a pile of books to read. I would go swimming, beachcombing, have bonfires, bbq dinner, go stargazing, read books, nap, and I wouldn't have my cell phone, my computer or wear a watch. I would do whatever I pleased. *can somebody make that happen please*

Same question (it was a good one!)

Sleep in, breakfast on a cool and breezy patio overlooking a high mountain lake.  Kids are acting sane and under control.  Morning spent hiking around the lake, picnic lunch on the other side.  Home in time to snuggle down and watch a movie in a big pile on the couch.  Put the kids down, put the wife in a hot tub, get sleepy.

What is your favorite board game?

What past decision in your life would you change if you could?
Title: Re: Ask the next person something?
Post by: Phoenix on September 29, 2015, 07:28:40 AM
I wouldn't change anything major because then it would change the course of my life and I like where I ended up. I would change something minor though...the decision to go away for a girls weekend once. A friend made bad choices and I spent the entire time babysitting her drunk arse to keep her safe. The weekend sucked for me.

At least 30 days if they play all double headers (MLBPA opposed this) and there are no travel days, but more likely 75-85 depending on travel. A 60-game schedule would be 20 3-game series for each team. Ideally, each team would play at their home park 10 series and away 10 series for balance. Given the clusterfuck in Florida, Texas, Arizona, Georgia, and most of the South and West, I highly doubt a third of the teams can reasonably play at home much, if at all.
