So, what do you guys think?  Expound, rant, etc.  I know nothing, but I'm curious as to what you wise people have to say.

No, you probably aren't near a draft. That would turn the opinion even more against Bush.

He wouldn't fucking dare. There are too many who know exploitable ways through his security. But, beware, his party may have lost some power in the recent election, but lame does not mean dead. He can still do plenty of damage to our freedoms.

A draft would tank Bush's already low popularity. It would make it impossible for him to get any co-operation from congress.

A draft would be political poison for any politician.  Especially as it is obvious that many a politicians child in the past managed to dodge the draft, like Shrub.  Listen to the excuses that Big Dick Cheney and his rich cronies used to dodge the draft in his day.  There's too much hypocrisy involved.  "A rich man's war, but a poor man's fight."

Fortunately, if I'm wrong, I'm way too old to be drafted, but, it hasn't stopped the army and air force from trying to recruit me for the medical military. ::)

I sure hope not. If I got drafted, I'd be fucked. I would try to dodge it, and if that wasn't possible, I'd go to jail. I'd also have doctors write notes saying I'm not mentally stable enough to go, etc.  There is NO WAY I would go.

Hey, QC, if we both get drafted, maybe we can get together and act like a couple of nutcases and drive the anal retentive bureaucrats crazy!  That would be fun! :eyebrows:

Yeah, that would be.  :eyebrows:

I was in Army ROTC back in 1974 during my freshman year of college Part 1.  I called my "student" senior officer an asshole, because he was one!  I didn't go back for the rest of the contract, and apparently neither did he.  Except he was 3 years into the deal and I was only in the option year.  meaning that he could have been drafted for voiding his contract, while I was home free.  I saw early on that I was headed for the courtmartial because of my rampant individuality! :evillaugh:

  I don't blame you for calling him an asshole. A lot of people that are assholes.

I'm not into military stuff at all. My sister is though. She's in the air force Junior ROTC at her high school.

I told a female friend I'd marry her if the draft included women.  It won't include BOTH women and homosexuals under Bush!

Honestly though I worry for my boyfriend if the draft gets put into place.  He'd be eligible, I think.

It's a really ridiculous policy.  The military lost many excellent personnel, who's only crime was that they preferred members of the same sex.  YET, they keep the scumbags, like the ones that ran AbuGraib prison, commit rape and sexual harassment on female recruits and female officers, do drugs, commit murder, etc.  Men have been murdered in the military just on the suspicion that they were gay!

We're talking about the US military bureaucracy here, which is not all that diifferent from any military bureaucracy in any country.  Eventually you have all these generals and officers, parading around in their heavily medalled uniforms, going harumph harumph, eating well, living in luxury, while your common soldier, who puts his/her life on the line and his/her family are living in poverty can't make ends meet!  Our government is spending trillions on a missile defense system that is irrelevant and doesn't work, while our honored veterans are having their benefits cut and soldiers coming home are NOT getting the psychological services they need to make the transition back to civilian life or the medical treatments they need to recover from their injuries.  They couldn't pay me or my wife enough money to suffer having to deal with the moronic bureaucracy that the US military is now.  As it is now the doctors they attract now are med school failures or immigrants from other countries med schools.  True there may be some real medical personnel who have hearts and brains, but, they are subject to a system that doesn't give a rats ass about ethics, integrity or honor, just social climbing, ass kissing and obedience to mind numbing assinine rules!

I spent one year in Army ROTC in my freshman year of college and that was the worst year of my life.  I called my student commanding officer an asshole and left and never went back!

Wish they could re-introduce conscription here, I will finally have a job which pays a decent wage. I would go as far as acting as NT as possible and denying my HFA to get into the military. I tried to join the military when I finished high school, but I disclosed my HFA in the application form, big mistake.

See thats what sucks about the military establishment.  I know a hfa from the Island and he has a great career in the UK Airforce.  So you would probably have a decent career as well.  It just isn't fair, especially when someone is a willing recruit and has brains.  Yet if you used drugs and were some form of lowlife...you'd probably get in!  I'm sorry Teejay, it's not fair and I hope things go better for you!

I might have been a TV-weatherman, if I hadn't dodged out of military service. I was supposed to have been an assistant to the meteorologist on a Swedish Air Force base, but I managed to get out of it. I hate taking orders, and this was even before I knew about AS at all.

You forgot the young doctors who join to get their expensive medical schools paid for and then they serve the required number of years in the military to pay it back.  I think it is at least one year of service per year of school.  My brother-in-law did that.  Now he is a cardiologist and at one time he was one of the military doctors assigned to Air Force One.  I know other doctors who got their school paid that way as well and the ones I have known have all been competent and caring doctors.

In Sweden doctor students (like all students) get loans for 6 years. When they become specialists they can pay it back in a couple of year if they want to. But it usually is better not to, because of the taxation system.  ::)

Say.... how does that sound for a plan to get homosexuals to get accepted.  We'll start campaigning about how gay people are secretly manipulating the media and government to ensure they ARENT obligated into being drafted, and we'll keep doing that until the fucking idiot conservatives buy in and change the rules, then we can campaign about how gays should be accepted on the basis that they are dying for their country just the same as everyone else.
