Title: The rotating profiles club?
Post by: Calandale on November 18, 2007, 02:03:54 AM
Quote
Hey, why the sudden changes of names and avatars? I thought you were rather proud of your bluebird avatar.

Someone pranked me. Once I saw how good it was,
I become a total slut.

same here. i tend to get stuck on avatars but i was uprooted and liked the freedom. but then i got stuck on the Mozart and was again uprooted.

Maybe we should form a club,
with a theme for the week. While
you're an admin, you can fix the custom
tags, and then we can just rotate who gets
to pick who gets what.

Though, it's more fun to do it to/have it done,
but that's not a likely option (though maybe
MORE so than 'twould be, under the WC).

Seems like a neat idea, to me.
Anyone else into this? If we get
enough people, it could be fun as
hell.

that was fast. i just suggested you make a thread about it.

maybe that could be our next av change. cartoon characters.
Title: Re: The rotating profiles club?
Post by: Calandale on November 18, 2007, 02:12:47 AM
I figure, just let each member assign things to everyone
(by PM?) and then we'd change our own.

Rotate who makes the choice. Sounds like fun to
me, and a way to learn a little about things that
matter to one another. If I've got some SG character
in mine, I'd want to understand who and why.
Title: Re: The rotating profiles club?
Post by: SovaNu on November 18, 2007, 02:23:43 AM
yeah exactly. it makes it fun to learn about the characters.
Title: Re: The rotating profiles club?
Post by: Calandale on November 18, 2007, 02:26:12 AM
Sure, and it doesn't have to be limited
to people. Anything really. I think it could
be great.
Title: Re: The rotating profiles club?
Post by: El on November 18, 2007, 11:26:35 AM
I'd be up for that if it doesn't require too much effort.
Title: Re: The rotating profiles club?
Post by: Calandale on November 18, 2007, 11:58:51 AM
Well, the person picking would
probably want to put a bit in.
But, maybe not much.

Otherwise, it's all profile changes,
which are easy enough.

Yeah, I've done this before on other sites. It's fun for a while.

It is the same as clique behavior in my book.
Title: Re: The rotating profiles club?
Post by: SovaNu on November 18, 2007, 04:28:41 PM
qlique? how so? it's just people having fun and learning about stuff. ???
Title: Re: The rotating profiles club?
Post by: Calandale on November 18, 2007, 05:34:44 PM

Yeah, I've done this before on other sites. It's fun for a while.

It is the same as clique behavior in my book.

Hmm...in a different sort of way. I can see where
it would reinforce such, but hell, some of us can't
just drool over one another, all the time.

I rather suspect that you will see that the clique of
those who didn't mind being pranked fitting more
into this, but really, 'tis more or a way of having our
cake (in terms of pranks), and eating it too (in terms
of not infringing on anyone).

I've only outlined ONE general manner that it could
be used. A bit of ingenuity, and it could end up
with clever variations.
Title: Re: The rotating profiles club?
Post by: SovaNu on November 18, 2007, 05:36:23 PM
a clique is closed. our club is open to all. it's no clique.
Title: Re: The rotating profiles club?
Post by: Calandale on November 18, 2007, 05:40:46 PM
It's NOT open to those who can't
bear to change their profile. And,
I wouldn't say that the other identifiable
clique is closed either. Different tastes in
fun, AND in site management issues.
Though, not entirely overlapping, I'd
say. Just odd that constant sex talk
and dislike of democracy go together.
Title: Re: The rotating profiles club?
Post by: SovaNu on November 18, 2007, 05:44:15 PM
it's not a clique just because it's not open to those who don't want to join. :P
Title: Re: The rotating profiles club?
Post by: Calandale on November 18, 2007, 05:46:01 PM
I use clique in a pretty loose sense. Really, just a
group, with some commonality. And, they may have
deep rooted psychological reasons for being so attached
to their profiles.
Title: Re: The rotating profiles club?

Title: Re: The rotating profiles club?

i was talking ours. anyone can join that wants to. not a clique by dictionary's definition.

This is held together by the common interest in
silly avie changes

I was thinking that earlier. Anyway, I'd be game to do it, but only if we can pick our own personas out of a subject criteria that the one person chooses. I don't like the idea of being assigned a profile directly. So, if the criteria was "cities in Scandinavia" I could pick Oslo without being assigned Stockholm. And if someone else wanted Oslo I could just headbutt them continuously until their skull collapsed.

I like the idea. I don't mind changing my avatar, but am a little hesitant about changing my name. And I like Milla's Stargate idea. :)

But coming up with avatars for other people is a bit of work. I don't think I would be able to do that, I don't have much of an imagination. :P

Well, one can be in, without choosing ever.

Anyhow, there is a basic question about who
does the picking. I'm all for letting the weekly
person do the work. If someone wants to ape
us, and pick their own, hell that's there business.
Title: Re: The rotating profiles club?
Post by: Calandale on November 21, 2007, 12:16:12 AM
As a way of picking who goes first, I'd suggest reverse post
count.

Mainly, because I don't want to go through all that work
again, for some time.

reverse postcount?
Title: Re: The rotating profiles club?
Post by: Calandale on November 21, 2007, 12:39:33 AM
Hell, I don't know. Just some way of picking who chooses
first. I think Hadron has some ideas, he PM'd me about.
A few others have expressed themes here. Another option
is that I could just put all the names in a hat, and put a list up.
Whatever. I just want to make sure I don't get a turn soon.

Post by: Calandale on November 22, 2007, 01:35:57 AM
Ok, time for a command decision.

PM me, if you're in. I'll make a damned
list, and post who chooses.

If you want to be early on the list,
send it to me by bedtime on Thursday
(yeah, that's pretty arbitrary...but you know).

That way I'll have a clear place to find everyone whose
in, and can post the list for whomever gets the honors.

Any special circumstances (like not wanting to prepare
it this week, or not wanting to be a chooser, or whatever),
let me know, as well.

This was going to end up like my old gaming group,
where we all sat around trying to figure out what to
play. Heh! Kinda like the WC, we actually made a complex
game out of how to choose.

Ended up more fun than the games, fairly often.

Ok, so I only got two PMs.

I'm figuring that others want to,
but just haven't gotten the chance.

maldoror picks first (coin toss)
then milla.

Do as much (or as little) as you wish,
but 'tis your job to get everyone an
avie/name, at the least, I think.

This is going a little bit further than the original suggestion, but can we have it so basically we all take on the name and avatar of someone else's most well known persona and post in that person's style? I think it would be a great experiment in psychology and empathy.

If not, I can pick something else.

You mean mass impersonation of other members? Sounds like a plan, though we need an admin to change all the custom titles, Karmas, and post counts to make it a perfect impersonation.

We don't need to change karma or post count, that's superfluous.

The idea is that it would be more challenging to post, and thus would be less like an avoidance strategy. Anyone else want to try it?

But, I think, before we decide who to pick, we need to establish who's in the club.

Oh, I played at that game once.
'twas better than I thought.

For a time, although as always, ones
most innermost meanderings come forth
and receive no praise from which fountains
they thought would flourish.  Seems a shame
really.  For all I meant to do was spend a time of
reflection with others.  And my sweet one called me
so sweetly, but again
lost in a shallow murk.
Scared her off really, but

how is Cal too easy? yes he writes in haikus but try coming up with his ramblings.

Oh, I played at that game once.
'twas better than I thought.

For a time, although as always, ones
most innermost meanderings come forth
and receive no praise from which fountains
they thought would flourish.  Seems a shame
really.  For all I meant to do was spend a time of
reflection with others.  And my sweet one called me
so sweetly, but again
lost in a shallow murk.
Scared her off really, but
if she desires my taste as much
as I do hers.  Why has one come
this far?

you should stick to
even lines, my dear.

We don't need to change karma or post count, that's superfluous.

The idea is that it would be more challenging to post, and thus would be less like an avoidance strategy. Anyone else want to try it?

Count me out. Sounds miserable.

Yup. Music critics always complain about how hard it is to make music, refuse to do it, and then start criticizing.

Which is perfectly fair. IF they were capable of
making top notch music, they wouldn't be
mere critics. But, in this particular case, I am
the progenitor of the style which you are aping,
and of all people, have the ability to judge. Pea's
attempt had ME fooled - I thought I had written
the stuff. Others haven't come close.
Title: Re: The rotating profiles club?
Post by: maldoror on November 25, 2007, 06:44:05 AM
Is that so? Well, maybe I want to keep
typing like this until I "get it right,"
although I think that 'tis unfair to measure
one's ability to impersonate by
how well one impersonates oneself.
Still don't think you're in a position
to criticize.
Title: Re: The rotating profiles club?
Post by: Calandale on November 25, 2007, 06:55:57 AM
But, you see, we're not talking
about the same thing. Could I
impersonate someone else? I
don't know. But writing as some
do would really hurt me. Plus, I'd
actually have to change the content.

I'd LOVE it if everyone typed in little
stanzas though.

Your name, avie, and maybe more
change every week. You can change

Frogs are pretty cool.   Especially the exotically colored ones and the poisonous ones.   What is the frog that people can get high from licking?

There are several toads whose venom contains tryptamines such as bufotenin, maybe DMT, 5-meo-DMT, 4-aco-DMT I'm not sure.
I have smoked DMT, it brings on an intense but short psychedelic experience.

In Australia we have Cane Toads, which were introduced in the 1950's I think. They were brought here to eat cane beetles, which damage the sugar cane crops.

The cane toads thrived in our conditions, with no apparent predators. They reached plague proportions, and are slowly but surely spreading from the cane fields of Queensland, west through the pristine national parks of the Northern Territory, and south into New South Wales.

Cane toads have poison glands above their ears, there is probably some kind of milking technique so as not to be squirted in the face.

Laughing gas.

She asked what does it do. It does not make you laugh.

I makes you hallucinate. If you inhale it on its own you will hear an echo effect and feel a bit spacey.

The fun comes with inhaling when you are on another substance - eg. pot or lsd - you will go on a magical journey, forget who you are, forget you even took the drug, see impossible things and come back (closer) to reality within a minute or two. Good fun. :green:

My friend Jason in Orlando stole medical grade nitrous a few times from a dentist's office.   We sold baloons for 5 dollars a piece at a few afterparties/raves.   Often I would smoke bud (or troll, trip or something) and do some nitrous (even at times in cool whip form which is commercial grade nitrous).   That medical grade nitrous is fucking awesome haha.

What is troll?

You can buy nitrous cartridges for whipping cream, similar to soda bulbs. They are called nangs in Australian slang.

Acid + nangs is the most intense, out-of-this-world trip I have experienced. Recommended

Trolling is candy flipping or doing LSD + MDMA.   The combination of tripping and rolling, comes out trolling.  I have done nitrous refills and LSD before, but it was with X as well.   That was 9 years ago haha.   I haven't done any of the hard stuff in the last 5 and a half years of my life.   Just weed, with the occasional drink.   I really don't have time for either, but I find time.    Just another distraction in my life.

To ease the confusion of frequent profile changes, perhaps the title referring to the avatar should be displayed in the comment below the person's avatar? Then you can keep your name recognisable. Not as fun probably. Thoughts?
