Title: Fuck this spying shit.
Post by: RageBeoulve on June 17, 2013, 12:29:45 PM
That's enough. Copy this, paste it to word doc, print it out, and mail it. Thanks for cooperating, guys and gals.

Dear Members of Congress,

We write to express our concern about recent reports published in the Guardian and the Washington Post, and acknowledged by the Obama Administration, which reveal secret spying by the National Security Agency (NSA) on phone records and Internet activity of people in the United States.

The Washington Post and the Guardian recently published reports based on information provided by an intelligence contractor showing how the NSA and the FBI are gaining broad access to data collected by nine of the leading U.S. Internet companies and sharing this information with foreign governments. As reported, the U.S. government is extracting audio, video, photographs, e-mails, documents, and connection logs that enable analysts to track a person's movements and contacts over time. As a result, the contents of communications of people both abroad and in the U.S. can be swept in without any suspicion of crime or association with a terrorist organization.

Leaked reports also published by the Guardian and confirmed by the Administration reveal that the NSA is also abusing a controversial section of the PATRIOT Act to collect the call records of millions of Verizon customers. The data collected by the NSA includes every call made, the time of the call, the duration of the call, and other "identifying information" for millions of Verizon customers, including entirely domestic calls, regardless of whether those customers have ever been suspected of a crime. The Wall Street Journal has reported that other major carriers, including AT&T and Sprint, are subject to similar secret orders.

This type of blanket data collection by the government strikes at bedrock American values of freedom and privacy. This dragnet surveillance violates the First and Fourth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution, which protect citizens' right to speak and associate anonymously, guard against unreasonable searches and seizures, and protect their right to privacy.

We are calling on Congress to take immediate action to halt this surveillance and provide a full public accounting of the NSA's and the FBI's data collection programs. We call on Congress to immediately and publicly:

    Enact reform this Congress to Section 215 of the USA PATRIOT Act, the state secrets privilege, and the FISA Amendments Act to make clear that blanket surveillance of the Internet activity and phone records of any person residing in the U.S. is prohibited by law and that violations can be reviewed in adversarial proceedings before a public court;
    Create a special committee to investigate, report, and reveal to the public the extent of this domestic spying. This committee should create specific recommendations for legal and regulatory reform to end unconstitutional surveillance;
Hold accountable those public officials who are found to be responsible for this unconstitutional surveillance.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

There is nobody to hold accountable...it is perfectly legal.

Remember when bush was caught ordering phone taps on Americans? All they did was change the law, under homeland security, to make it legal.

Do you actually believe a petition will make any difference whatsoever?

To make changes in society, the only logical thing to do is look how others have done it, who actually managed to change things in society.

If we do that, and eliminate all wishful thinking, we are left with riots. At very very best, a long lasting, non-relenting civil disobedience thing - but it MUST be unrelenting - and it MUST be costly to society. IT MUST!
"Occupy wall street" was NOT that costly, and it was NOT unrelenting enough - just as an example. A year ago I told some "occupiers" online that in a year from now, their movement would be gone. They scolded and insulted me. Look at them now.

At worst, change will be brought around only after years, perhaps even decades, of violent, all-out civil war. Look at Syria. These same "occupiers" kept telling me how childish and ridiculous I was, to even mention Syria in the same context as their world-apart protests. Well. Look at them now.

The question is rather if it is possible to keep your privacy - using Tor and encryption and avoiding hotmail, gmail etc?

It depends on what you want to do and if they really want to know what you specifically are doing.  TOR is good but slows things down a lot, some sites don't like it and you can't use things like java scrips or watch flash without possibly giving away your info.  Encryption works but using it may show you have something to hide warranting further investigation.  If you have something to hide use a dedicated laptop for it on public wifi with tor and encrypt what you send do not use that computer for anything else.

No.

Tor will hide your tracks to some extent but using an email provider will basically make your correspondence available to the provider.

So even if I would use strong encryption the provider would be able to read it anyway? What about One-time pad (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-time_pad)?

there is still a drone in the sky over your house, a guy looking in your windows, the power company keeping an eye on your usage, your grocery store keeping track of everything you buy if you use a loyalty card, your neighbor watching your comings and goings, the black box in your car monitoring your speed and seat belt usage, your cell phone company providing all your metadata to the government, etc, etc

Googling my real self, I find a very few old references to dinosaur websites, a few (and some outdated and now incorrect) tax informations, all of them agreeing that I have 0 money.
And finally a 'pipl' result, where they have correctly managed to attach my name to my current Facebook profile (I changed my name there a year or two ago), those BASTARDS!

The war o terror is the same as the war on drugs.
Serves only the capital interests of bureaucracy and gives the state license to seize freedom and jail otherwise innocent people.

The war on drugs created a huge black market industry.  Some countries are controlled by the drug lords.
I wonder what the war on terror will yield 20 years from now.  What monster will it create.

There is no money to be made off of education in the US ( unless you are in the business of loaning college tuition money)

If you had your money invested in private prisons in 2007 - 2009

Same here, I'm naturally unavailable :D
When my phone company called me to find out who I am, once and for all, I told them my first name. They asked for a sirname, and I told them they weren't getting it. I pay my phone with these cash deals, not by bill. They accepted my refusal, and that was that :D
But since I'm in the tax-system, I show up, as an empty name with no money :D As well as my short lasting glitch to include my real name in FB >:I

A lie. See they have the capability of monitoring everything. I mean everything on the network. All calls, imformation attatched to origin and destination of call, content of call, all internet activity. You name it. And they might say, oh sure we have that capability....

But we don't use it. We only use a small part of it, such as duration of calls and phone numbers. You know, like the president was recorded saying for all the world to see. The president can't lie! No president has ever lied, and even if they did, our current president has never been caught in a lie! At least not more than once... twice. Three times max. SERIOUSLY you fuckers need to stop being so critical of king Obama, damn!

The debate is a bit skewed, though. What people don't realise is how much information there is to read. The problem is not how to read it, the problem is what to read.

I honestly don't know.

The debate is a bit skewed, though. What people don't realise is how much information there is to read. The problem is not how to read it, the problem is what to read.

You know? The sad thing is, it really IS that funny when you think about it. I mean how can people actually accept this crap as normal?

we have been conditioned.
How long ago did Orwell write about such matters? Huxley?

Truth is its much, much worse than we know of yet.  They let us know little by little to aid in our acceptance if such matters.  If it all came to at once, we would be shocked. The system would be shocked revolution would be the reaction to a shocked system.

Logically, you do understand that with the technology we currently have....they know everything.

Rage is simply a shock tart.  He gets angry sometimes and vents. We do not think he means what he wrote above.

Rage, you might want to think before posting something like that, here. While I wholeheartedly support your right to post moronic content, I will have trouble defending you if our host shuts us down because of a possible TOS violation.

Remember that the TOS will restrict us more than the applicable laws.

If they don't know everything yet, they will.

On a Swedish forum the idea came up that Snowden and the other guys were actually allowed to reveal this to se the reaction and to get people accustomed to it.

But I agree with Rage: how can even this be considered normal - even though Orwell wrote his book 65 years ago and Huxley 80 years ago?

He has an immature way of saying things sometimes, but he is 100% morally right.

Can't we get another host? If it's more expensive we could all pay a small sum for the good cause.

The problem is where to get a host that knows how to handle SMF software properly.
