Title: Foreign language poll
Post by: Triste on September 11, 2006, 12:26:46 AM
I was thinking about this after reading Temple Grandin's book.  She has an interesting theory of autism; that many social troubles are caused by sensory difficulties.  Difficulties in auditory processing can make it difficult to hear nuances in speech, causing relationship difficulties.  But this can also cause problems in hearing and understanding foreign languages.  My mother is on the brilliant end of the language spectrum, whereas I am on the other end - it's almost impossible for me to understand spoken French, a language I studied for 6 years.  She's never forgiven me this defect, but that's another story.

I'm just curious if any of you are on one end or the other.

I learn languages pretty easily if I have the proper motivation.
