Hi y'all! This is a message to say hi and provide a brief backstory. I'm a long time friend of Walkie, who feels that I might fit in around here (wondering). In a few words; I'm retired, but still do stuff, have done a few jobs but have no profession, am single and have lived alone for 42 years (clue?), love cats and have kept two, enjoy reading about religion and the mystical in its widest sense, live with 16 teddy bears (subject to census), have developed a leaning towards romcoms as my favourite movie genre, drive an old car, enjoy trains - planes - automobiles very much (but hate buses). I like a lot of music, but NOT classical, and have a yen for reading time travel, paranormal, and romantic fiction ebooks in bed. Nearing two years into retirement, and having been forced to do so because of ill health, I am a bit disappointed not to have thrown off health issues and wondering where it all goes next! I have few friends in the locality, but more at some (great) distance. I bloomed very late, largely as I only figured myself out...much too late.

If your avatar is David Boreanaz, you're okay in my book.
Welcome. You say you've lived alone for 42 years, does that mean you're in your 60's? We could use a few more grey hairs around here.

Welcome.

Excellent, a noob. :green:

Never fear, Teddybear. Hyke hasn't coralled us all in her backyard and seared the "Property of Hyke" brand into our foreheads (:apondering: or at least , if she has, she missed me out) . She is referring to this thread (http://www.intensitysquared.com/index.php/topic,24022.0.html).
You also need to look at my British meet-up thread (http://www.intensitysquared.com/index.php/topic,24067.0.html)

Hi Everyone, and thanks for the messages of welcome!
I am in the middle of the final three hectic days of preparation for a visitor from afar, which has motivated me to the most comprehensive cleaning and decluttering of my flat for ages (well, six years anyway). This has been difficult, especially when one has a "thing" about dirt and dust etc. I have actually taken down and washed curtains for the first time in....not telling. Last night, taking down a "dead" blind that was beyond cleaning, I quite overdid things and felt quite unsteady, also not welcome for the single householder.
This afternoon, my poor old car refused to start and left me quite nonplussed, especially as it is due to go back the the garage tomorrow for a tick over problem that has appeared after the cam belt was replaced. Tonight's problem was a discharged (and apparently expired) battery, which the breakdown service diagnosed whilst restarting and adjusting the idling. I am praying that I get restarted in the morning after a run tonight so that she can reach a battery supplier and later the other garage....
The next ten days will be filled with my favourite occupation of being a "tour guide" and getting to revisit historical sites that I love, tailored to my friend's penchant for the Tudor period and mine generally for the historical towns and villages of Warwickshire. I might find the odd tale to recount.. hopefully more fascinating than my domestic crises - maybe about supplier Tudor Life exhibit...

Yes, 66 and nearing two years retired.....not really willingly!
And, Angel would be a nice alter ego for me, I suspect!

What type of old car?
A Honda Civic from 1999. I bought her off a used car dealer two years ago when my old Cavalier was fading. She had been standing nearly two years but has come back well with some TLC - and a lot of cash!

On further consideration......being half English and half Welsh.........I'n not sure that I would use either as against "British", which is how I have always seen myself. I do, however, honour those Celtic roots.....

Nope, but those were nice. 8)
1994 Chevy S10, I think I've got around 52,000 miles on it.
Bought it off the neighbor a few years back, he hardly ever took it out of the garage (neuropathy) his wife does most of the driving and she didn't really like it. It had around 32,000 on it then...needless to say I don't drive much either.

A bit of a tip for you, Teddybear: if you want to know all about IQ's truck, click her name (on the left) go to her profile and click "show posts" . You will then get to see IQ's entire post history, in which her truck gets appropriately frequent mention. We even have a smiley for it:
:icequeen:
(hover over the smiley , and a little text box wtll tell you what you're looking at. Also, you can make as if to reply and you will see the code :ice-queen: (hyphen inserted to stop it from just showing showing you IQ driving her truck again)
Cool, huh?
I mean the smilie, not the truck. Sorry, IQ , vehicles are meaningless to me. All I really feel I need to know about a vehicle is is: does it have fours wheels and move? Ain't that right, Teddy? Outrageous , I know, but i suspect I'm lovable in other ways, to compensate. :eyelash:

I figure Teddybear is doubly BRAVE, here. :viking:
Jumping in at the deep end, huh?
:apondering: ...or is that the shallow mud-slinging end ?
I dunno. But in any case, I did not pursuade him to do so at sword point, did I Teddy? I didn't . I didn't. I didn't. i don't care what you guys have heard, it's a lie.
-
Walkie, with a sword? Nah, she's more likely to have drugged him into compliance with strange herbs.

Where the hell are you, Teddybear? :orly:
