I like some anime. I've introduced a couple of friends to the joys of Hellsing (my favorite anime); we're exactly in the middle of the series right now; they agree that it's a pretty good series, despite how abusively mary-sue-ish the main character is.

Anime porn is certainly quite popular as is any kind of animated porn. At least judging by the number of porn spambots I'v been deleting from the neurolands and AI. Oh yes and one featured Disney characters in porn situations....like Kim Possible. :laugh: It was a pay site and all I could think was how pitiful somebody must be to pay to watch cartoon characters fuck. If thats somebodies gig...C'est La Vie!

Nothing really, it's just about the time that Scooby Doo originally came out, animation costs skyrocketed and you could see the cost cutting affects start to show in the quality of the animation. Hanna-Barbera was just about the last american animation studio to hold out NOT shipping it's work overseas. You can even see the difference in Scooby Doo's from the 70's to Scooby Doo from the 90's and more recently.
I just preferred more adventurous cartoons like Jonny Quest (60's), Space Ghost, The Herculoids, etal. If I wanted funny stuff, Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones and the Jetsons were always there. Scooby Doo just never did it for me.

I have a strong aversion to the elements I associate with opera; interminably long scenes involving warbling in languages I do not speak, shrieking and wailing, melodrama. I have seen/heard very few operas, none for longer than half an hour (at which point the 'what the FUCK is this bollocks?' switch became operational). I have no intention of exposing myself to a wider range of opera in order to check that it is all shit. So with anime. With genres or styles which are very distinctive it is not necessary to assume that those who hate it just haven't seen any good anime/porn/morris dancing/etc.
I'm aware there are probably one or two anime series/films which might be enjoyable if I can get over the initial distaste, but I can live without the discovery process personally.

Some of the stuff that Thagomizer posted of animated porn, tells me that there are a number of disgruntled animators moonlighting. Some of that cartoon porn looks like it was done by the same people who do the G rated stuff. :laugh:

Orrrr, just for argument's sake, someone who professes to hate all porn could turn out to have been exposed exclusively to some particular type of fetish porn. I'm not saying you shoudl then force them to watch "normal" porn, but it would be rather interesting to know, wouldn't it?

I like anime. It sure beats the hell out of most american animation, at least in terms of creativity and maturity. At least in Japan they know that animation is a veratile medium that doesn't have to be limited to children's entertainment. The only westerners who seem to know this are Todd McFalrane and Ralph Bakshi.

I feel the same way, but more so about anime. I think because a lot of people don't really try to give it a chance, and it's a genre that has something for everyone. Still waiting for the op the list off what he's seen.

The only thing that looked familiar to me was the "Land of confusion" video, which I LOVED. (As for the song, I grew up with the original, but I think I actually like the remake more. It's eviller.)

I bet that's easy when they have such a vague line in between what constitutes "children's entertainment" and everything else... (I really don't like anime).
