Title: Question renaeden
Post by: renaeden on January 31, 2007, 07:54:30 PM
Since I was mistaken to be a guy (not uncommon, it's happened many times and I have no idea why) I thought I'd start this thread so I do not accidentally take over someone else's thread.

I will answer questions as best I can. ;D

What would you like the second question in this thread to be?
Title: Re: Question renaeden (how original)
Post by: renaeden on February 01, 2007, 05:34:44 AM
Are you male or female?

Female.

There, I have asked and answered the second question.

Now someone hurry up and ask another question.

I get to make these demands because it is my thread, right?

What made you choose your avatar?

Are you busy planning your wedding, which is happening very soon?

Congratulations, by the way.  Here is a new wedding smiley for you and Galileo Ace:

Did you meet GA on an Aspie site or on the internet in any way??
Title: Re: Question renaeden (how original)

Gralwyn: I have a "cogs/gears moving" avatar on wp and since I like a different avatar for each site I'm on, I tried to find a different cogs avatar. GalileoAce made one for here but it was too big. So I quickly chose the first cogs one I could find and this was it.
I don't really want to change it because I like how the yellow contrasts with my two signature bars. I use the black page theme, I think it looks cool.

Callaway: You'd think planning a wedding for two autistics wouldn't be that hard. But my non-autistic family is making it that way! I am making a speech at the wedding which I thing is a total laugh, so I think I will write it down and read it. I think it is the only way I'll be able to get sound to come out of my mouth! ::)
Today I went out with two of my sisters and my mum shopping (for which I needed a nap afterwards!) and I bought shoes, a fancy hair clip and some fake flowers which I'll be holding for the ceremony. They are fake because the weather is just too hot this time of year to have real ones - they would last an hour at the most! Thank you for the smiley, the confetti is hard for me to tear my eyes away from....

Capt. Scrap beard: I met GalileoAce the first time on a mailing list, Autistic Treehouse. I was new to the internet and had just been diagnosed. I actually had refused to look up anything about autism until I was diagnosed. I thought I would be told I didn't have anything and that I was just depressed, so it was a surprise to be HFA.
Our liking for Star Trek :vulcan: was how we really got together - we had an argument about how many episodes were made (he was right) - and after that I just persued GA like a stalker would. Loads of people told me to be careful, it was GA who should have been warned! I spent a fair bit of my savings to travel across Australia to go and see him and it worked out well. Gee, I am reminding myself of the Cable Guy.

which is your favorite star trek series?

who is your favorite character?
Title: Re: Question renaeden (how original)
Post by: renaeden on February 02, 2007, 09:02:17 PM
McJagger: I think I like The Next Generation the best, I've seen every episode and own it all on dvd. It's getting dated now but I still think it has some good messages in its stories. An episode "Tapestry" has a good story to it.

I don't really have a favourite character as such. I like Riker, Worf, B'Elanna Torres, Dax (both Jadzia and Ezri), Odo, Kira Nerys and many more!

I always loved Odo...and my favs are DS9 and the classic trek as I find the dynamics between McCoy and Spock very interesting... seem to be a fair few Aspie Trekkies around  :green:

Centimeters Inches
1.00 -0.39
5.00 -1.97
10.00 -3.94
15.00- 5.91
20.00 -7.87
25.00 -9.84
30.00 -11.81
35.00 -13.78
40.00 -15.75
45.00 -17.72
50.00 -19.69
55.00 -21.65
60.00 -23.62
65.00 -25.59
70.00 -27.56
75.00 -29.53
80.00 -31.50
85.00 -33.46
90.00 -35.43
95.00 -37.40
100.00 -39.37

So my height would be..... 62.2 inches or 5.18 feet.

Now for the Celsius to Fahrenheit..... and you get Kelvin as an added bonus.

Oooh, that confetti again....

We got married on the 10th, 11am.
Then we went and stayed overnight in a hotel about an hour's drive away. There are no pictures from that. ;) And we are back already as GA's family is staying in our house.
But there are some pics of the wedding that GA has to resize so we can post them.

I have to change my name at various places but I am slack today, I'm not going out.

Thanks you lot. :)

We had a great day. I felt sort of detached during the vows. Everyone watching and all.... focusing on just GA helped a lot.
I was so tired afterwards, I have been sleeping heaps!

GA's family and a friend of his have gone home now. I wonder how long it will take before things feel back to normal.

Heheh, we were very quiet..... ;)

I'm not planning on having any kids. I don't think I can handle pregnancy, for one thing. Hell, I can't even handle a Pap Smear. Last time I had to take a Valium and even then I was ready to run off at any minute!
Yeah, they'll have to knock me out if they want to try that again.

yes, happy birthday.

with all these events lately are you suffering from any anxiety?
Title: Re: Question renaeden (how original)
Post by: renaeden on February 15, 2007, 11:36:11 PM
Yes, my birthday was weird, I had to work so it didn't feel like a special day at all.
To top it off, I am now 30. >:(

I am actually not suffering anxiety problems. But I am having bouts of depression. I can't explain it, I don't really have anything to be depressed about. I am going to the doctor soon, I have made an appointment. I've said things to the doctor before about it but now I won't let the subject go as it is getting quite serious and pervasive.
Title: Re: Question renaeden (how original)
Post by: renaeden on February 23, 2007, 09:40:19 PM
Meh, I went to the doctor, nothing was done, I'll have to deal with this myself.

A conversation between GalileoAce and renaeden:

renaeden: This guy at work was telling me how bad his memory is bad. I said, "It's bad? Have you had ECT?" He asked, "What's ECT?" I said, "Oh, forget it." I didn't feel like explaining it.

GA: You should have told him what it is. That would have shocked him.

GalileoAce has the photos on his computer. And as I know next to nothing about computers (mine is black, it has a flat screen and it does stuff), you would have better luck asking or hassling him.
I hope you do, he needs it.

Sorry I can't help. :(

Good move. I did the same but went overboard ... My desk faces the wall, which I hate, so I made a collage, her portrait (exceptionally well executed by myself), her and her son, her and her daughter, each child individually, one of both children together, one of all of us together. It helps me keep my "eye on the ball".

Well, he hasn't read it so far....

I just can't handle clutter. It gives me too much too look at. I get overwhelmed visually quite often and I hate it. I don't think too much of myself when I have to take a nap after a few hours of shopping! :violin:

Of course pipes are cool too, Renaeden.  Both my husband's and my screensaver is a picture of our daughter standing in front of a hedge maze with a Mona Lisa smile on her face, holding a can of Sprite.

^That freaked me out.

-----------------

I haven't been online for a while because GalileoAce's computer snuffed it and he has been using mine almost continuously since that happened. He is saving up to buy a new computer now.
I have been working too many hours (over 40 in four days) and I had a meltdown over it. A nice spectacular one. The sort that people come from all around to watch. :-[
I wanted to quit the job (I pack pies, it is not that important) and the boss negotiated with me that I now only have to work three days per week.
It seems that the older I get, the more intolerable of everyone and everything I get.

So if anyone was wondering, is wondering, or will be wondering, I haven't given up visiting Intensity.
I can't wait until GA gets his new computer...

Couldn't think of anywhere to write this and didn't want to start a new thread.

GalileoAce and I have a cat, her name is Delta.

She has had this bad habit of srcatching her bum on the floor so we wormed her. But she still did it. GA took her in the shower and washed her yesterday (I don't have pictures of that) and I haven't seen her "bumscoot" since.
I asked GA, "Have you seen Delta bumscoot since yesterday?"
He replied, "Only in my dreams."

This is, like, totally bumped. From the third page.  ::)

Now can someone please ask me a question?

Well, here is a picture of a loader similar to what I used to drive:
I was mostly used to driving one like this though:

It was great in winter to be in it and having the stereo on. ;D
When I did my loader test it was in one of these and it was really odd to drive:

I am sorry if the pictures look huge.

I got asked a question! ;D I am pathetic, you can say so.

Well it is a long story. I did like my job very much and I still miss parts of it.  I have scoliosis and spina bidida. These things are minor problems in themselves but at the mushroom farm I was driving on average 12 hours a day. Forklifts don't have shock absorbers and I was driving over bumps in concrete that they just would not fix. So after a few years I started to get pain. Then it turned into agony. I have never been in pain like that before.

Around this time I was also diagnosed with HFA. One thing on top of another and I guess I had a mental breakdown. I ended up in hospital for a few weeks. When I went back to work afterwards, things were never quite the same. No one trusted me and I was talked about quite blatantly. So I moved into my mum's, sold the place I lived in and my mum took care of me leaving work for good. I can't remember the exact sequence of events.

To this day I still have back problems. It is part of the reason I left my most recent job. I have been told my spinal cord doesn't move as well as it should. I get a lot of numbness in my hands and feet now. But I feel I am lucky because I do not have the really bad pain that I had before.

Now I am looking for another job. I applied for a job yesterday. It is packing medical products. I hope I get it because I love all things medical. It is an interest of mine. I have even diagnosed on House before he gets it!

What kind of spinal bifida were you born with?

My daughter has scoliosis too.  When I was carrying her, her AFP levels were high, so they thought she might have spinal bifida.  They did amniocentesis and a genetic ultrasound and saw that she didn't though.  I don't know how much credibility you should give the genetic ultrasound, though.  She had a hemivertibra and a fused rib in addition to a large hole in her heart and the ulttrasound did not see any of it.

I was safety representative for my department. They just did not listen to me. My communication skills are not that good so I got laughed at in the end. Then I quit.

That is sad about ultrasounds. But they are getting better.

I am one of twins and my mum did not even know there were two of us untill half an hour before I was born. There were no ultrasounds then. We were x-rayed. Mum still has the x-ray now and I am only just visible on it.

I have spina bifida occulta. It is just below my neck. It usually presents no problems. I had no trouble as a kid until I was about 15. Then when it became the "done thing" to cross one's legs at the knee, I found I couldn't do it. Within ten seconds both my feet get numb. I also remember it was hard to sit cross legged on the ground for more than a few minutes. Also my arms and hands go numb if they are raised above my head.

I was told that the way my spine is shaped, the spinal cord gets a bit stuck on it. Sounds blech. There is a tiny bit of information about the occulta version here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spina_bifida_occulta

I am not sure what a hemivertibra is.

I am not sure what a hemivertibra is.

When my daughter was developing in utero, only half of one of her vertebra formed.  This hemivertebra acts like a wedge in her spine, which causes congenital scoliosis.

That is an interesting article about spinal bifida, Renaeden.

So that would be like haveing scoliosis and you can't prevent it. In my case, I think it could have been prevented. Was this how a rib became fused?

One of my ribs keeps twisting. It is uncomfortable and cracks.

I go to a chiropractor regularly and that really helps.

Yes, she has scoliosis, which she was born with.  No amount of bracing would help, but surgery to either remove the hemivertebra or to fuse it might help.

The fused rib is on the other side from the hemivertebra, on about the same level, which is her first thoracic vertebra.  If you look at her x-ray, it looks like an extra rib grows between her first and second rib, which connects them to one another.

Would it be necessary to have surgery for that? I am guessing it would because it would cause pain eventually. It is sad that your daughter has had so much surgery and may need more. But you all are tough to get through it all.

When I had jaw surgery a few years ago, my mum cried and she wouldn't see me in the ICU because she didn't want to see me that way or something. That surgery was to lengthen my jaw so I didn't have such an overbite. I recovered well from that.

I have scoliosis but it's very mild. It doesn't effect me and it get marked as normal when I get a physical for school for sports. I heard it’s very common to have a curve in your spine. It’s at the very bottom above my buttock.
Title: Re: Question renaeden (how original)
Post by: Callaway on July 19, 2007, 09:09:41 PM
My daughter's angle is really not all that bad, but because the hemivertebra is at the top of her thoracic vertebrae it seems to throw her neck sideways somewhat at an angle.  I have been reluctant to subject her to the trauma of surgery, for which she will need to wear a halo vest for approximately two months, when she is in absolutely no pain and she is not disfigured, at least in my eyes.  If I knew that she would be in pain later if I didn't do it, then I need to carefully consider that.

SG : I am not fond of fluorescent lights. But I can tell the difference between pink ones and blue ones. I have also seen some with a greenish tinge to them.

I can't see them flicker unless it is obvious. But I can hear them hum. I can actually see incandescent bulbs flicker.

You are right about scoliosis being common. Society has played a large part in it becoming noticed. There are some repetitive jobs and jobs where people sit down driving, using computers, etc. I don't think we humans are designed to do that for hours a day.

Callaway, I guess it is one of those things that is there, but not a problem. I am guessing that your daughter's hemivertebra is in roughly the same place as my spina bifida.

I went to Perth Zoo recently and was allowed as part of a tour to go in where the lemurs were. They got so close, they brushed against us. But we were strictly told not to touch them. But I felt so tempted.

I wasn't allowed to do Human Bilogy at school, I didn't make good enough grades so the school counsellor told me to not even try TEE. That was the only subject I was really interested in anyway.

ahh! those guys rock! Prosimians and simians are the best. The only ones the zookeepers let people get near :)

Reminds me of a trip to the zoo I went on as part of a human biology field trip. Most of the class (all but three) just immediately wandered off and went exploring the zoo. Myself and two others went straight to the monkey cages (along with the monkey keeper). We got to go in a few of the cages and he let them climb on us. It was so awesome. We couldn't handle them but he let them jump on us... I got urinated on by a squirrle monkey! It was soo cool! :) I did notice that when the rest of the class finally got to the primate area that the zoo keeper did not even hint at mentioning the possibility of opening the cages.

K next question: If you suddenly developed a prehensile tail, what do you think it would come in most handy for?
Title: Re: Question renaeden (how original)
Post by: renaeden on August 09, 2007, 06:42:43 AM
Holding objects I suppose. Letting others know what my moods are?

I think having a tail like a lemur would be awesome, the striped tails are best. They use them so well.

By the way, when I was at the zoo, I thought the monkey section was the best. :)

Gelato/Gelati is ice-cream made the Italian way.

A lot of people have thought that.

It is a combination of my middle name and my mum's cat's name.

No. Sometimes English is too hard!
Do you have pets?
GA and I have a cat named Delta. There are some pictures of her in the Photo Thread.
Are you allergic to anything?
Tigers, believe it or not. I was in Thailand and I got to have my picture taken with a tiger and I patted it. I came out in a very swollen and itchy rash. It was not nice because it was hot as well.

A lot of houses do. But we don't. I think we have roof insulation though.

I play the game of "open all windows at night to let the cool air in then rush around shutting all the windows against the heat in the morning". GA doesn't understand this game. :P

We do have an electric air cooler/humidifier thing that we have in our bedroom. I would get no sleep without it. But I do have to get up a few times in the night to fill it with water.

I play that game too   It gets hot here in the summer and we don't have AC either

I have played that game with opening and closing windows too.  I also close blinds or curtains on the sunny side of the house.

We have a big evaporative cooler on our roof, though.  It is often called a swamp cooler and it works only in dry climates.

It helps a lot here.

How many gallons of water does your cooler/humidifier hold?

I believe it holds 20 litres.

Funny haha: A funny movie. The last funny movie I saw at the cinemas was Shrek 3. That was quite some time ago.

Yeah kind of hard to think when your tired and such.

I have been to a mental hospital myself, and they threw me out in about a week.  They said I didn't need to be there.  First they had me in the children's ward with another patient with autism. I tried speaking with him, but it was to no avail.  He had a fit when he went to school.  Then they put me up in the adult ward, and there was bisexual up there.  He gave me his number if I needed to chat with someone,  then I remember him taking the box of soap out of the shower, and sucking on the part that looked like a cock.  He said he just turned bisexual.

How tall are you?

I asked GA's (my husband) opinion on this, the answer to the question. He said "pretty much" except I am a bit more polite online. I say a few swear words in real life. They are easier to say than to write I think. :green:

I don't know what I consider myself to be but I do try to be a good person. I think that is the thing, to try. Because if I am already, then I needn't try anymore. Or something.

How far are you from the beach?  And what is it like,  rocky, sandy, cliffs ect
I live about ten minutes walk from the beach. I know some people would love this. I go down there every now and then to walk along the water. GA goes for a swim sometimes. It is a very windy and sandy beach. The sand is white and fine. There are some manmade rocky outcrops so people can go out on them and fish. The rocks are limestone. We have a lot of limestone in Western Australia.

The beach sounds like when I lived it Florida we had white sands most places but no rocks.  In the summer the water temperature was abound 87F (30.55C) in the Gulf of Mexico not very refreshing.  Is it expensive near the beach or not so much.  Where I live now there used to be normal people living right by the beach and nice little cheap restaurants now the houses are a million plus and the regular people are being driven out :'(  Just hope it's not like this everywhere.

3. Yes frogs are cool.

It gives me the creeps to look up at a ship, too.  They're so huge and wide, and you feel like they're going to run over you and crush you.   :(

Do you often see scary spiders and snakes where you live?  All we ever hear in the US is how Oz has so many dangerous beasts!

Raskolnikovna, my phobia with the ships is even with pictures of them. I feel uneasy. Pirates of the Caribbean nuh-uh.

I used to live near some bushland and I saw dugites and tiger snakes fairly often. Those snakes are poisonous. One of our Siamese cats used to bring them into our garden. Apparently Siamese are well known for getting into things they shouldn't. How our cat never got bitten, I will never know.

When I lived alone, I used get lots of millipedes in the house and I found a couple of scorpions as well. Spiders, we have a lot of redbacks (venomous) where I live right now, they hang around the window sills and the fence outside.

I like kangaroos, they are nice. There are a lot of wild ones near where my parents live. Koalas, I don't think much of. They smell. And they don't do much.

Soph, my favourite subject was science. I also liked woodwork and metalwork, making things. I wasn't to clever at any of those, I just enjoyed them.

I know your favourite subject was and is History, you are very good at it. :)

The BackSpace key is the keyboard key used to delete any character before the current position of the cursor.

The Enter key is used to return a cursor to the next line or execute a command or operation.

You use the Enter key a lot.
GalileoAce uses the BackSpace key a lot. That is why I chose those names. :)

I would think they would want you to know about Bipolar II so you can better help yourself.

What if you had been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, prescribed insulin, but not educated about how to manage it other than daily insulin injections?

This makes just as little sense to me as not educating you about Bipolar II.

the best thing about getting a diagnosis, for me, (apart from any meds i might get for it), is being able to find out as much as possible about it, so i understand myself better. they should explain it properly to you, if they expect you to be able to get better. at least you have the internet though. researching it yourself is probably better than having a doctor quickly explain it anyway, although they should still tell you

I agree with all of you. When I go back to the doctor I will ask for information.

I had a really bad day yesterday, my hand/wrist hurts a lot, old arthritis flaring up again and using the computer makes it worse. I am down about that because using the computer is an outlet and it is something for me to do. I wonder how I am meant to work when I get in pain like this sometimes. GA has found a job he really enjoys, I wish I could find a job that I enjoy like that but I get offered jobs I don't want at places where I will have to do physical work and just damage myself more. Then I feel awful for refusing the jobs because people went to the trouble of finding those jobs for me and they are annoyed with me now.

I see things work out for other people and they don't even try and they don't for me no matter how hard I have tried. I am in pain and I have no job that I want to do. Eh, I just feel sad now.

I wonder how you know you will get arthritis? I have osteoarthritis in my back and my knees. The sort of arthritis I have now is the inflammatory sort.

I have also been having sciatic pain which sucks. Seems my right side doesn't want to cooperate with me :P

Hey, Ren!

Thanks for your nice comments on my pics.  You are sweet!   :-*

How have you been feeling lately?  I haven't seen you online much, and I was wondering how your meds were doing.  Hope you are well.

^You are right, I have not been online much. I have been trying to let my arm/hand get better but it hasn't really. I think there is something wrong with the nerves near my elbow. I will ask the doctor about it when I go next week for a review of my medication.

I tried to get my Dexamphetamine 'script filled and the chemist told me that it had to be handwritten instead of typed. So I had to make a trip to the doctors' and get a doctor (anyone there)to write it out. Lucky the doctor I see regularly was there and wrote the 'script out "properly" for the chemist. Also had trouble getting my free medication. But I have it now. :)

GA tells me he has noticed that I have been a bit more cheerful but I haven't noticed, heh.
I went and saw my psychologist (autism related) with GA and found out that I can work on my conversational skills if I want to.
So instead of:

Other person: Hi how was your weekend?

Me: ok.

*Conversation ends there.

It could be:

Other person: Hi how was your weekend?

Me: ok, I did (insert activity here). How was your weekend?

Other person: (tells me what they did)

Me: (comments on what the other person did in a pleasant manner and might ask another question).

*Conversation may continue...

I think this is quite funny but also realise why people may think I am rude. And I know I cannot do this conversation style all the time as talking tires me physically and mentally (still to figure out why this happens), though I can at least try it out.

I haven't done much else. Been grocery shopping and watching Star Trek DS9 (watching the series in order).
Thank you for caring and asking about me. :)
/me feels warm and fuzzy

i have the exact same problem :orly:
it tires me too, physically and mentally. so it's really bad when i used to try and go out with people and socialise and stuff- i'd come back with a headache and get a migraine and stuff.
i wonder why it makes us physically tired. conversations are so hard.
the things i've used to get me through them as i was growing up aren't very good either i don't think - they make me look more self-centred, which i've only just realised now. because i found that, if someone says about what they did at the weekend or something they like, the best thing to do is for me to think of some way i am connected to the same thing, like if i've been there before or had a similar experience, and tell them about that. because that's the only way i know of to keep the conversation going. but i've only realised over the last few months, that that makes it look like i'm not interested in them, and only interested in myself. i do it online as well, even though i'm better at communicating online. hell i am even doing it now

conversations are so hard though. i think that's why a lot of us like these sites and stuff. you have time to think before you respond. whereas IRL, you don't... you just have to do it on the spot. i always end up looknig like an idiot or not thinking of something fast enough... so it's really awkward.
Title: Re: Question renaeden

Yeah, I go through the same problems with the "give and take" part of conversing.  I've found that as I get older I'm worrying less and less about looking like an a-hole over it, though.  Lots of people do the same thing in conversations, either out of nervousness, egotism, of whatever.  Just about everyone is afraid of looking like a fuck-up to others - we're not alone in that regard.

Glad you're feeling better, Ren.

I actually view this as the person being generous when they do this. They are sharing a part of their lives to connect with you. So I see nothing wrong with this conversation style. :)

Most times I will give myself a break and if someone doesn't like the way I converse, well tough shit to them!
Title: Re: Question renaeden
Post by: Sophgay on March 22, 2008, 08:02:36 AM
yeah i am sick of trying really hard to make a conversation work well for the other person, when they don't even need to try, and then they aren't satisfied with it anyway. i don't think people realise how much effort it can take when you're not naturally good at conversations lol

It'd be interesting to ask some non-Auties how they feel about conversation, and if it takes them any effort to converse with someone.

It's horrible for my husband, and he's not on the autistic spectrum.  Very shy though, so he goes through much more discomfort that I do socially.  I learned a long time ago to not care too much what people think, but because he can say and do the right things socially, he feels like he has to.  I'd rather be in my shoes than his, in that respect.  I think lots of shy people are that way.

In society in general, even an NT has to watch what they say or do.  To be honest, people  are dumb fuck animals out to screw anybody and everybody as fast as they can as soon as they can and any which way they can.

People are stupid in general, especially in herds.

Good point,  :plus:  It's hard to hate someone that you don't trust, mostly because they are dismissed as not being worth the energy to hate.  HAte takes energy, that could be better spent elsewhere.  Distrust takes only the energy needed to avoid or ignore.

It is hard to tell because I have watched them all and I have a bad memory :P
There are certain scenes which are funny - where they ring transport someone off their ship and the rings go flying away in the wind. :D

I liked the first Stargate episodes where they set the stargate up and start going through it.

Even though it ended on the tenth season, I think it could have gone on longer. I am just glad that they are still making Atlantis and the movies.

Someone on the internet said something about how it would be a good idea to make some Star Trek miniseries to keep the franchise going. I would really like that.

Thanks for looking at it, though, even if it didn't make sense. It was just an isolated scene, not part of a longer story yet, though I might still add to it. What did you mean that you didn't understand the genre? It's supposed to be fantasy. The subject was an argument between a man and a woman about another world. One wants to keep it secret and the other doesn't.
I guess that sci-fi and fantasy get mixed up in my mind. I was expecting sci-fi (I don't know why) and the story seems fantasy with a bit of sci-fi (planets make me think sci-fi) added. I didn't notice the present tense and is that a good thing? I was more into the story than anything else. Most curious about Jose. His past and what he will learn from Marai.

I wrote a story in the present tense when I was in high school. It was my decision to do it that way. The story was shit so any marks I got were probably for the unexpected use of present tense.

Your story needs editing to clear up who says what and the transition between Jose and Marai/man whose name I have forgotten already, ( ::) me ). You already know this but I would definitely like to read more if that is ok.
If the creative part of your brain is missing, how come you like Stargate? I thought it took creativity or imagination of some kind to enjoy SF.
With visual sci-fi I am just receiving and it doesn't take a lot of imagination for me, but I do need to understand it or I am lost. I had to watch The Fifth Element three times before I understood it. Star Trek moves slow to me, Stargate is faster and so sometimes I have to watch an episode a number of times to "get it". I just process information slowly at times I think.

Reading is different. Probably why the transition from novel to movie can end in disaster, "the book is better". To me, The Lord of the Rings trilogy was torture to read. Two pages to describe a hillside? I couldn't see. It was like reading through a fog and knowing some great things were going on and I was missing out. I could see in your story, Pyraxis.

I can speed-read at times. I can proof-read and sort of edit.
I find it very hard to write. There are too many images/ideas to translate into words. The way I was taught to write in school was not the way for me learn. I read a lot but I hardly ever write.

Okay, let me try a response, through a haze of fucking-hell-it's-way-too-early-in-the-morning.

I should probably take out the bit about planets. It's not supposed to be sci-fi. The technology isn't near as advanced as earth.

I'm really glad you could see the story.

There is more written but not about Jose yet. I'll see if I can get some more ready. This stuff is mostly done for fun, I'm not thinking about publishing or anything, because like Odeon said at one point, once you post on a forum you've already used electronic rights.

If you ever did write something I'd want to read it. It's better to learn these things your own way, I think, than at school. Most of what I learned was on my own. School teaches you to write boring formulaic essays and that's about it.

Thanks, all that I have written lately is on my blog and that is non-fiction. Recently wrote a post on ECT. Should scare a few people away. :P

Now that I think of it, I don't think I have written any fiction since I left high school. That was 13 years ago. I also think my creativity has been blunted by medication. I first thought about the gears in my brain not working, heh. I have felt pretty out of it in the past. I looked for a picture of a persons head with the gears/cogs turning inside and couldn't find one I wanted. I did find a .gif of gears turning behind a wall and used that on WP. After that I just thought I may as well keep with the gears/cogs thing so I don't have any problems deciding on an avatar.

I kind of like having this "theme" going now. :)

I like a band called Cog, you may have heard of them? They are from Bondi.
They use cogs for their emblems.
The meaning of the name is to do with autonomy: Don't be the cog in someone elses machine, be the cog driving the machine around you.

In light of recent events?

I think that I give away too much information about myself and so there is less to ask about. I have found on here the less information you give, the more others want to know.
I write easily about myself.
I don't post about my boobs.
Pictures of me are somewhat hidden within this site.
I don't start many topics.
I don't really start arguments or intellectual discussions.
I don't flirt with others.
Posting everything I think is really difficult.
Pretend games are beyond me most of the time (see top of this page).
Long posts from me are a rarity.

So in other words, I am boring. Wish I wasn't. I have done a lot in my past but much of it is bad experience and who wants to read whinging? I have a blog and the people who read that are Russian spammers. :P

For something different (!) I am going to change my avatar.

The weekend magazines in the newspapers will from time to time run an article about asexuality, including interviews with one or more happily-married asexual couples; I don't think it is mysterious. At least not to the demographic which reads those magazines.

Just as people come equipped with a wide variety of neural wiring and skill sets, so too do people possess an astonishing variety of sexual preference, including preferring not to, thank you very much.  :)  And if a site such as this one (which was, after all, founded on the principle of frank and open discussion of whatever its members see fit to discuss) cannot come to terms with the concept, I'd be disappointed.

Whether you post about your experience of asexuality, renaeden, and in what detail, is of course up to you.

Why don't many people ask you that many questions? Is it because you're not popular or that you're boring?
Of all things to be asked by ones husband. Have you no respect?

I have plenty of respect, do you not think I would've asked her in person about those things first? And discussed my intent to ask the questions here?

The questions were not for her in any case, but rather to drum up questions for her from those here. It's as though everyone here respects her too much and thus risk seeming like you don't care enough to take an interest, or you have no respect and don't care to take interest.

We can all become so self-absorbed in our own lives that we fail to stop and take an interest in the lives of those around us. I am guilty of this; I'm not very good at the whole taking an interest thing, she doesn't get to talk to me much, either through a collective fault or through my fault, so perhaps in some unconscious cog I figured I'd drum up some interest for her to talk about her life and times and troubles and fears. Tis the least a good husband would do.

Perhaps it is the place of the question thread to be forgotten, lost of page 2 where no one will see it. Perhaps no one respects them enough.

Yes, I know all about respect. Thank you. (http://bottomrunggaming.com/forum/images/smilies/dry.gif) (http://bottomrunggaming.com/forum/images/smilies/beee.gif)

I was too forthcoming until I went to school and realised it wasn't welcomed, heh. I used to ask a lot of questions - drove my family crazy because I asked the same questions to be reassured of the same answers. Somewhere along the line I realised that not all attention is good so I stopped asking questions or even talking much. I became uncomfortable with myself and anxious all the time.

In high school I started realising that the world did indeed suck and maybe that is when the cynicism started as well.
PPK, I would like to know your answers to your questions, I am curious.
If you had to spend 2 hours in a room with all the regular posters on this site, what would you do when you got there?
I would sit in the corner rocking while mumbling incoherently. :P Seriously I would like to meet people from here. I would like to have something planned to do beforehand I think.

Definitely not. As time has gone on, I like you more. You seem to be a really decent person who has a wide range of knowledge. You may not think so but that is what I think!

In matters where I knew my answers could get myself or others in trouble I knew to keep my mouth shut. Learning that people lied or witheld info about more mundane things took longer to figure out. After that I went through a stage of not even trying polite conversation with those I didn't like. Now I can muddle through small talk in most situations but that took a lot of practice. Hitting people where necessary and verbal altercations I was always good at, I just had to learn that not all potential battles need to be fought and that picking another time and place could work better. One thing I learned well by my late twenties was to hold off a victory and let the opposition be smug in false victory (in workplace pissing contests not fights) for a little while before cutting them off at the knees so as to make it harder on them to lose. Only in the last 12 years have I seriously tried to control anger and get along with others and let certain situations resolve themselves instead of going on the offensive immediately. Nowadays I try to let small stuff go and allow others the opportunity to demonstrate no ill will if they choose. It works well most of the time, I haven't had a physical altercation in 15 years now and generally get along with others. I still suck at picking up women. The next meeting at the M.I.N.D. Institute I go to instead of the Social Skills meeting will be with the more social/semi political ones. All I'm really good at is making a decent living and building a retirement so making money for more travel overseas will take precedence over refining shit social skills.
Title: Re: Question renaeden

I have mostly given up on bettering my social skills because I find it hard to apply them in each situation.

I can not begin to describe how hard you just failed.

You're the one who fails, you actually think i'm not aware that isn't Rem, my first comment about it was tongue in cheek, its not my problem if you idiots take it out of context.  And duh, I was being serious about Gall, all thats there is a picture, and its a guy.

I don't understand what was wrong with the question, I looked back through the thread, and both the pictures they posted were of guys  :-\
Which thread? Which posts more to the point.
The photo thread.  You posted a picture of a guy with curly hair and Rem post a picture of some Russian looking guy who was topless, definaltly breastless.
Haha, It is a picture of Vodzy, the Russian looking guy! He is a member here, he hasn't posted here for a while. I looked for my picture and it isn't there, I must have deleted it. So this is not your fault at all. I don't think there was anything wrong with your question.

I am not a guy and I am married to GalileoAce. So there is a puzzle for you. ;)

I am 32, short, have shoulder length red hair (!) and am not pretty at all (well no one has ever said so). I wear glasses and am an autistic spaz. :autism: That is about all.

I think I have settled in the best way I can. The uni I go to is a very social place. I haven't made any friends yet, although I have someone to sit next to in one of my lectures, so I guess she is a friend of sorts.

I think I am really lucky with the lecturers and tutors I have this semester. They are good teachers. :)

Sorry for the delay in answering your question.
I found this post that I have written before:
I first thought about the gears in my brain not working, heh. I have felt pretty out of it in the past. I looked for a picture of a persons head with the gears/cogs turning inside and couldn't find one I wanted. I did find a .gif of gears turning behind a wall and used that on WP. After that I just thought I may as well keep with the gears/cogs thing so I don't have any problems deciding on an avatar.

I kind of like having this "theme" going now. :)
So now I just use cogs themselves as avatars.

Thanks Callaway. :) Those exams were the end of the units I was studying: Abnormal Behaviour and Human Development. I read the whole book on abnormal behaviour. The next semester starts at the beginning of August so I have heaps of time off. I am hoping to get some of my books for next semester soon though so I can start studying those before semester starts.

I just sneezed 5 times. There must be something in the computer room setting me off.

I find asexuality almost impossible to conceptualize.

I mean, even if sex didn't do much for you, wouldn't it still be fun to get naked and caress your partner (and be caressed). If you're not into that. how about naked backrubs??

I don't see how being naked in the arms of someone you care about couldn't be fun somehow.  :dunno:

For about 7 years. I did a lot of other stuff as well, like operate machinery and the boiler at work that had to be started up and shut down every week.
I actually still have dreams about forklift driving and I think if I went back to it, it wouldn't take me long to be as good as I was before at it. :)

Yeah I think the same. Not too long ago I thought I either had to get a job or go and learn something. Didn't want to stay stuck on the pension doing nothing. At the time I didn't really fancy going back to forklift driving so I chose to do a course to get me into uni.

Maybe once I get my degree, I will go back to forklift driving. :P

No... and you haven't. I see that you are on 7514. :P

With driving forklifts, we didn't really have a "keep left" rule because we mostly drove in single file. But when we drove past each other I guess it was to the left. Used to it I suppose from road rules.

How are you doing lately ma petite soeur?  :viking:
I am doing ok. Experiencing uni stress again, am only in the third week and I have an assignment due next week and some homework due tomorrow. Next year I am definitely switching to going part-time, full-time does my head in.

I went to the housing place I am registered with this morning to ask what is going on as I got a letter from them months ago saying a house might be available for me soon. Well someone else got it. :( So I am still waiting. My stepdad told them (he was with me and so was my mum) that he and my mum were selling the house soon and moving into a retirement village. But they aren't really. He just said that to hopefully get them to give me priority or something. He can be quite tricky, my stepdad.

And my car needs a service. So I have been thinking about that too.

Thanks for asking. :) I am really glad to see you back here, the place isn't the same without you.

I am hoping so too. I know about lack of discipline, mostly self-discipline. I used to procrastinate really badly and still be madly working away on an assignment on the day it was due. I am getting better at finishing them before they are due now. But it is still a lot of work. I am going to have to give a presentation on Conversation Analysis later on in the year and I am really dreading that.
What kinds of forklifts do you drive? What brands?
I used to drive you mean? Because I don't anymore. Some good memories though. I did a forklift driving course and assessment on a 3 tonne Hyster. Then at work I drove a really old yellow 1.5 tonne Mitsubishi some of the time. Most of the time I drove either 2.5 tonne Nissans or 3 tonne Mitsubishis. I preferred the Mitsubishis as they were smoother to drive. The Nissans were faster though, and had better side-shift.

Used to drive, yes. My latest assignment at work deals with Kalmar and Moffett forklifts, see. I saw a Moffett engineer demonstrate how to drive one of their forklifts in terrain, which was amazing.

I have heard of and seen pictures of Moffett forklifts. Also, GA's dad used to drive one. They are quite different from the forklifts I have driven. I have never heard of Kalmar forklifts.

I don't know how I could do that over the internet heh. Is it the actual driving you have difficulties with or is it something like road rage?

Driving is easy. And I do like to speed. A lot. But not sure if that's counted as road rage.

The problem is when maeuvering the car to fit into certain narrow spaces and in tricky ways (I am ashamed to say parallel parking is something I really need to train myself on).

Anyway, Toyota Crown vs. your normal typical pickup truck. Who wins in a car clash?
Title: Re: Question renaeden
Post by: renaeden on August 25, 2011, 04:39:16 AM
Umm, I can't help you when it comes to parallel parking. I had to do it for my driving test and have done it about twice since. And I got my licence in 1996. When it comes to manoeuvering the car in close quarters I am pretty shit as I don't have any depth perception. So I try to give my car plenty of room wherever I go.

I don't think speeding is like road rage. Speeding is speeding. Toyota Crown vs. pickup? I would go the pickup? I haven't seen a Toyota Crown for a long time so I am guessing a pickup truck is bigger.

I haven't done a reverse parallel park since my P's test either. That test I failed. The second one I passed because they got me to do a three point turn instead (they alternated between reverse park & three point turn when testing people).
Title: Re: Question renaeden
Post by: renaeden on August 25, 2011, 05:50:28 AM
Yes, they test similarly here too, I think. Although when I did my test, I had to do all of them, three point turn, parallel park, reverse around the corner, etc. They also tried to trick me by making me drive through two give way signs and then a stop sign. But my mum warned me right before the test to remember to stop fully at any stop sign. Because that is how she failed getting her licence the first time - by not fully stopping. Thankfully I got my licence on my first try. Don't think I could have gone through the anxiety a second time.

Three point turns are definitely better to do than parallel park. :)

I wish the test forced me to do all sorts of parking. Would've been useful for me in the long run. And that stupid instructor never taught me the intuition behind the parallel parking bit ... just how to simply do it (in almost the same way I parroted history books back in school without understanding anything).

I still remember the day of the test. Just before the test, the instructor had me do a practice drive just to check if I've learned all the basics of driving well. Then came the part where we had to park in a spot to get ready for the test.

The instructor then realized she never had me practice normal parking before (not kidding) ...

Surprisingly, I passed the test on my first go.

Yeah, about the parking - the licencing centre where I went was really easy to park in. When I first got my licence though, I had trouble at shopping centre carparks so I used to park far away from other cars. I think a lot of stuff is learnt after you get your licence.

I did like the practical tips of how many turns of the steering wheel and what things should look like in the mirrors, etc. He should have chosen a more difficult parallel park to make, imo.

Good point.  My mother got her driver's license when I was seven years old.  I remember her telling the story of the examiner asking her to parallel park between two cars that were too close together in her opinion and she responded, "In that little bitty space?"  Then she drove further up the block and he let her parallel park in a space like the one the man in the video used.

The parallel park I had to do for my driving test was difficult and it was along the coastal foreshore where there were a lot of shops and people.

There were a lot of fuck-ups where I worked. :D I remember someone got a forklift bogged in some sand near a shipping container, so another person tried to pull them out with another forklift and got that bogged too. Then another forklift was brought around to help - that too got bogged. Was funny because we were meant to be running the trayline (machinery) but couldn't because the forklifts that were meant to be putting on/taking off trays were disappearing to help someone, only to get bogged. End up being one of the truck drivers to save the day that day, pulling the forklifts out of the sand.

There was also a guy who thought he could fit his forklift down a narrow gap between a drain and a compost heap. It didn't work out, the forklift tipped into the drain at a 45 degree angle. Can't remember how they got that out, heh.

No I would not. I have already met the person I want to be with (GA) but I won't just lie there and bear it, as you say. I have tried this before and it doesn't work. The other person knows if you feel uncomfortable or you are not "into it". I am not repulsed by the thought of other people having sex, but I want nothing to do with it. It that means being alone for the rest of my life, then that is what I get. It is a good thing that I don't mind being alone.

It is not a question of the right guy. That is like saying that the right guy could get you going sexually as well. I have been with men who I loved and who I thought were right for me. And had sex with them. But I never wanted to and still don't. It isn't something that can be switched on or off. Believe me, I wish I wasn't asexual.

About asexuality? Well, for me I knew that I was since I was a kid, even before puberty. I never wanted kids either and still don't. Bit late now anyway. I knew that any relationship I got into, I would want close companionship and a little bit of romance and that would be about it. I don't know if it ties in with me being autistic but I do know that lots of autistics are very sexual so it may not be that at all.

Well, I gather that 'asexual' is a trait more common amongst people on the spectrum than otherwise but I don't suppose that makes much difference, does it? But then I don't really get the way people want to cite odds about such things (apart from most of them don't understand probability, of course!). The odds of any individual being that specific person are 1 in infinity! Any properly qualified Maths people here to confirm that, for any doubters, please? lols

Resigned, somewhat. And I am not bothered if people talk to me or if they don't. There seems to be some truth to the schizoid dx I have. Plus, if some guy shows interest in me, I have to take into account where it will lead and what I don't want. It is a tricky situation, I think and a definite stopper to potential relationships.

Do you ever go swimming in the Indian Ocean?
I have been a lot when I was younger. But generally I don't like swimming because I can't see well without my glasses on. Plus I don't like seaweed and other icky stuff that is in the ocean sometimes, heh.

Great! You know I'm not asexual & I am hetero, you mean? Yet I am, actually, a virgin. Do you really think I couldn't have 'pulled' a girl, for that, if I'd really wanted to? (There are some 'easy' ones around, if I wanted it that much).
Then, I can still enjoy talking with a girl, who's 'unavailable', for whatever reasons. You may know quite a bit about me but there's a lot you don't yet know, too!

Yes, I gathered you are sexual and hetero. I don't know about how easily you could "pull" a girl, I don't know you that well, heh.

I can enjoy talking with almost anyone, no matter who they are, if they are easy to talk to. I don't tend to look at people as their sex or race or other characteristics first. People are people to me.

Well, can't ignore whether it is a girl or a guy &, if the girl is attractive, I will notice! Most like some fun flirting & are, generally, pretty good at telling if it's just fun or serious. Whilst I'd not talk to another guy that way, so sex makes a difference to how I chat with them. Not skin color/ race/ ethnic origin, anything like that, though!
So, in IRL, I'd still accept your being asexual & not be trying to get that from you, I can safely promise. Surprised?

Maybe it is because I am asexual that I view everyone as being the same.  I see it as a good thing anyway. As far as flirting goes, I generally don't see it unless it is really obvious.

I am not surprised at how you would be in rl. Decent people are generally ok with respecting others' wishes about their preferences.

Ooh, me, decent? Glad somebody thinks so.... There's more than enough girls 'available' to go chasing one that really isn't. By now, I'm happy on my 'own', like that & never, actually, wanted 'casual sex'. Which hardly seems to work, especially for the girls that try that route. Not that it's too unusual for people to try a 'choice' that doesn't, really, exist....
Oh, well, off the soapbox. Um. It would be due to being asexual, yep! Can't think of another question for you at the moment, though. Besides, my asshole hurts (he, he!)

Posting my prescription here as I will have to give it to the Irlen people later and I might want to refer back to this:

                                    Right          Left
Sphere                         -1.50            +0.75
Cylinder                       -1.25             -0.50
Axis                              160               165
Horizontal Prism            2 out             1.5 out
Vertical Prism               3 down           3 up

Where are you?

Here. And going by that prescription I posted above, I think the axis is wrong as I can't read with my glasses on. Too fuzzy. I have had this happen to me once before. This time, however, I don't have the money to get tested again until the end of this year/next year.

I think my different meds caused the change because it didn't happen straight away.

Does that mean you won't be around much?

Hey, McJ. :)

I was away for a while because I was in hospital for just over three weeks, then I had day therapy for another three, then I had to finish my thesis in 3 days (not fun to stay awake that long) and another thing that keeps happening is my computer freezing when ever I tried to load this site. Thankfully, today it is having a good day, but really I need a new computer.

As for the eyesight problems, I figured out what was causing it - benztropine. It causes blurry vision as one of its side effects. Weird because it didn't do that last time I was on it. It is to counter the side effects of lithium and haloperidol (shakiness and parkinson-like symptoms) which have gone now, as well as the side effects of benztropine (thankfully).

If you were in a race and passed the person in 2nd place, what place would you be in?
