To add to it, you (wrongfully) deleted a post of mine.  I don't like you.

That sounds like a thing Lee would have done actually.

Nope, it was him.  A member attacked me, I responded and he deleted my response just because it contained the words "homophobic asshole"  ::)  I wouldn't have minded as much if he edited it but by deleting it, it made it seem as if I didn't respond at all.  I also found the fact that I was being censored for a "personal attack" quite hypocritical.

Midlife seems to be running things alright.
Mind you there will always be a drama at some point over something. I think that it is the nature of forums. I like it. Keeps things interesting.

I have tried my best to figure out what you are talking about, including looking through the records, but unfortunately I have no idea what you are talking about.  I am not surprised that in calling someone a homophobic asshole you were censored, and there are a lot of posts that were deleted rather than moved that we will never know about.

I think particularly Sinsboldly had no idea what to do because we were not scared of her nor did we respect her and most of us disliked her.
She wanted to ban us and even locked a thread which we thought we not brave and re-opened.

my little urchin is three,  he was diagnosed ASD at two.  I was worried about his speech.  I can remember hearing other mothers saying 'quiet' and 'Shut up now' to their kids!  and i used to think to meself 'i will never do that, if only he could talk'  its very hard in the UK to get speech therapy for that age group.  Had to pay privately.  £70 an hour.  It didn't work.
Four months ago i put him in a nursery for 'normal' kids,  well there was one other ASD,  and the urchin hasn't stopped chattering since. Proper sentences now. He goes there 15hrs a week.  All i am trying to say is don't worry too much about ST.  I don't know your situation,  but you could try increasing the time he spends with other kids.  However hard we as adults try, it is very hard to imitate a three year old!!!  I used to avoid playgroups at first,  used to hate the way other parents looked at us,   cus my boy, well cus we were 'different'  maybe it was paranoia, but definately the wrong way to go.

From here?

I read her old intro thread and didn't see anything that indicated it. Perhaps it was said between the lines?

From the looks of it, people here were making fun of her and she didn't seem to like it. I forgot about Hadron pretending to be Mr. Mark and I appeared to be lurking in that thread since I made a couple responses in it but nothing to making fun of SB. And her avoiding Sir Les's questions about her mod decisions she made with him.

I didn't know editing posts was against the rules. OMG is that another hidden WP rule? Damn it, make the rules black and white. I hate color when it comes to rules.

I used to sometimes take peoples posts when they bash NTs and change the word to people. I never ever got a warning for that. If that is what she means by I broke too many rules there, she is so...I don't know what to call it.

I will let you know that my son was non-verbal (not-mute) we laboured trying to teach him words and meaning and nada. Then within a short period (six months) he became verbal. How? He watched TV and started pulling phrases off there that he would drop into context and usually get it right. Usually with the same inflection and accent as the person who said it on TV. He quickly built a repertoire around this and then finally was "brave enough" 6 months later with his basic needs and wants satisfied through this and having been so successful of getting what he wanted, to start working on using his own words.

I may say a lot of horrible thing about Wiggles and Thomas the Tank and those fucking teletubbies but this is where he learned to speak properly and they gave a scared confused little boy a voice and for some reason made sense when nothing else did. I respect this.

My son was born at 28 weeks and was under 2 lbs.

He didn't do anything according to the "book".

He wouldn't crawl, and when he finally did it was to crawl 2 paces to the nearest object he could pull himself up on and stand.

He didn't talk until he was about 2 1/2, he imitated noises and we did hand signs to ease fustration. But when he finally started talking though, look out, it was like a dam gave way.

One thing I will say, take everything the "professionals" tell you with a grain of salt, they may know kids, but they really don't know "your" kid. For the first year I really can't say I heard anything hopeful or promising from any of them, just imformation about all the learning disabilities and development problems he would most likely have due to his prematurity.

They were all wrong.

He just turned 12 this month, doing great so far in school, and obsessed with computers & video games like the rest of his friends.

Doctors are always wrong. Always telling parents their kids won't be able to do this or that because of birth complications they had or autism they have or other disabilities. Even my in laws were told my husband would never be able to read so they would have to color code everything and they told him other stuff but he did them all. My parents were told I'd never be able to talk or live a normal life and I'd be in an institution by the time I was ten. My parents never listened and neither do other parents. They always have hope so they try and teach their kids and give them therapy and they always prove the doctors wrong.

My daughter had an inchworm type of locomotion at first, where only the back of her head and her feet touched the floor at times.  She only crawled for a week or two, then she was pulling herself up on the furniture and cruising, and she walked alone by 11 months.

She was so tiny that it was a sight to see her stand straight up and walk because she was still wearing 3 - 6 month clothes.  I had a hard time finding size 1 shoes for her that weren't just crib shoes with cloth soles, but I found one little pair of Sam and Libby ballerina shoes that had thin leather soles and a pair of size 1 leather Keds with the traditional rubber sole.  I was so happy to find those because she could walk outside in them.

I wasn't worried when she was 2 because I could still understand her speech even if nobody else could, but when she was 3 and still unable to be understood I took her to see a private speech therapist, who eveluated her as below the first percentile and recommended speech therapy and a special preschool for kids both with and without special needs, because her play was also delayed.  She got speech therapy from the preschool as well and she's still getting speech therapy through her school even now.  She's much more understandable than she used to be, however.

Just want to ask if 'they' know over at WP,  about you posting here,  are there any rules relating to memberships of other sites?

The other mods know, and of course all the regulars from both sites.  I don't know if Alex knows so I guess I may find out about "rules" at some point :)

Beware the Red Queen.  :orly:

It is a lot like being a pre-school teacher and a maid at the same time.  I can't say it is something I actually "enjoy".  All the whining drives me nuts some days.

I have interacted with Plank a total of three times.

I hope you don't mind me saying but , why do you do it then? going on the internet is mainly supposed to be a leisure pursuit , if you are not enjoying being a mod on WP , I personally don't see why you should continue, I mean you have a kid , a job , when do you get "Me" time?  :-\

So my question is , Do you feel you have a sense of duty to be a mod on WP?

He doesn't know what this place is because he has never bothered to find out.  No previous mod has bothered to find out.

I absolutely have to have a place to relax and be a member.  This site has already replaced WP in the sense of being where I draw my AS support, and where I consider myself to have friends.  Once you become a mod over there you lose whatever support you previously had.  Just look at what I had to put up with from Leejosepho.  If I was any regular member he would have been suspended, but as a mod I was open game.

I asked before not sure itf you saw it,  i am very curious how WP deals with the flood of spambots registering accounts they must get tons of them here we get six or seven a week sometimes a lot more but run the ip's and emails against spam lists to keep them out.  WP is automated am I right?   sounds like a nightmare.

Of the 48,000 members the site claims to have I am sure more than half are spambots.  At least once a day we have to ban one that actually starts sending out PM spam, but the rest never seem to actually do anything.  If you scroll through the member list you will see that more than half of the members never post a single post.

It's the same here with the non posting members but the last couple years we have made an effort to only let real people join. Just rejected one that was on the list.  I use mostly this site http://www.stopforumspam.com/  it's pretty good there are others too though.  Too much for you to check them all but if you have some ones you want to it's a good spot.

You didn't get an email where you had to click on a link to Intensity to activate your account?

There's a drop-down menu when we approve new accounts, so it's possible that you were approved without needing to activate your account.  You wouldn't have gotten the activation email if that's what happened.  I think that it's possible that for some people, that email might go into their spam email folder, while others might use a fake email address or one with a typo and never get their activation email for that reason.

Also as I have began asking people lately do you have any collections?

Thanks for the kind words.  When I first came over I was warned that "those people cut their teeth at 4chan" and one of you once caused a WP moderator to have to take out a restraining order - so I was a bit :tinfoil: when I first joined.  The software was so many levels above WP that I was instantly drawn just to the format and functionality of the place, and as soon as I got over my :tinfoil: and started lurking in earnest I discovered that this is a very unique group of people with strong personalities and an interesting dynamic that could never exist at WP.  I wanted to know more, so started posting more seriously.  The more I did the better I liked the place and eventually abandoned WP in favor of this place.

I like that it is smaller, so I feel like I actually know each regular member to some degree and I can actually read every post made on the board if I so choose, and often do.  It's a good place and I am glad I joined.

Right now the only thing I seem to be collecting is callouts.  I have a large stamp collection but that was my father and grandfather's doing.  I used to collect books and dvds, but with a kindle and electronic media these days there is little point in cluttering up my house with physical media.

I think you should return to WP for the sole purpose of lighting a fire under the Administration's ass. Since you were the one with the green badge, you would be the first one they would listen to. Your former colleagues are being quiet about this, too quiet. But its your choice, i'm just throwing the idea out there. Don't get me wrong, I like this place, but i also like WP and I want it to stick around.

OK, here's my question: Given the Inactivity of the Administration, how long do you think WP has before it goes down for the count?

Point taken, Well it looks like WP's time is limited. So much so that I am having to find other ways to keep in touch with the friends I have made on there. If it gets any worse, I might throw in the towel as a member.

That is all the story I was told (or remember).  I didn't push as it seemed kinda nuts.  Something about non-stop harassing phone calls.  I think the member was someone who is no longer here.  Maybe the person that Sins accused of flying to her house and breaking in?

The ask away thread for MidlifeAspie, started by "Iamnotaparakeet" who is actually MidlifeAspie, as if nobody couldn't tell yet. This is more for the WP people you invited with your post on PPR to see than for the regular denizens of this forum who already would know.

But, but, I don't want to be a denizen.  Can I keep on being Queen Victoria? :'(

A denizen is merely someone who frequents a location, not exclusionary. You are able to call yourself Queen Victoria until you change your username.

Her Majesty does not just call Herself Queen Victoria.

It's an honourable historical vocation.

She chose to bear the burden.

Long live the Queen.

I'm not sure you understand the concept behind Intensity Squared.  Maybe you should read a bit more before you post?  Just saying.

I understand freedom of speech, something which isn't present on WP and yet supposedly is here. Or is it?

I was referring to humour, which is one of the spices liberally sprinkled thoroughout the posts here.  I usually don't post anything somber, thought-provoking beyond making someone laugh or dreary.  Take whatever I post with a smile because I mean no harm, merely levity.

P. S.  I spent almost 25 years being a buttoned-up auditor with no friends (to avoid disclosing confidential information) to be lonely and sad now.  I2 is my reward for those lonely years.

I fear VD (can I call him this for short...I think I will from now on  :o) has no sense of humour an dwill struggle on here and I think this says precisely the opposite of his mental resources.

There is no God, but if there was do you really think he would approve of your mounting that manatee?  I think it is probably cruel to the manatee.  Does the manatee know you are on here ogling women's breasts and assorted phalluses with shiny metal rings on them?  Does she know what you are doing on collarme and that felching site?  Can a manatee cry?  Do they feel disappointment?  These are the trying questions of our day.  It would have been so much easier living during the days when Jesus walked the earth.  Be Like Him.....

I always thought he was a rather slow shut-in that we took pity on by making him a moderator.  He wasn't my choice, he was TallyMan's (just like LeeJosepho) but I didn't object at the time as he seemed to be meek and would be easy to use to my purposes.  And he was for as long as I stuck around.  He didn't have any real opinions of his own and seemed like a people-pleaser.  Since TM and Sal and I have left, he is now the head honcho over there and it seems to have gone to his head.

He can't debate, he can't defend himself and he is scared of conflict.   :dunno:

I'll have to look through my copy of the mod logs and see if I have anything good regarding him.  I mostly focused on older stuff when I was making my copies.

The "Why you shouldn't go to law school" articles are absolutely rampant.  I can provide you with 30 more if this is something you are actually considering.  For many people it's a terrible idea, and everyone should make that decision with their eyes open and aware of the potential downside.  2011 graduates have a 60% employment rate right now, at least in jobs that require a JD.  Yet, almost 100% of graduates leave with some kind of debt, most in the 6-figure range.  If you don't graduate from a top 10 school (think Harvard, Yale, Columbia) then you had better graduate in the top half of your class if you want to obtain a job that can pay off your debt load.  (Tuition inflation is partly responsible for the high cost of legal fees btw)

So, yes, going to law school is a bad idea for at least half of everyone who attends.  Far too many people attend for the wrong reason, and not everyone can excel.  It's kind of sad, but a risk that one takes.  Fortunately I am in the top 10% of my class, and as long as I stay there I will have my choice of six-figure offers in any state I should choose to reside.

Speaking of poorly made educational decisions, what can you do with half a Geology degree?  Overall, do you think it is a good or bad idea to attend college if you can't manage to finish?  Was the debt worth it, or were you at a cheap school (community college, third tier toilet, etc)?  You can't apply to law school until you have an undergraduate degree, so if this is a route you are serious about you will need to apply yourself in the short term and finish that up, then you can focus on the LSAT.  If you need any advice, let me know.  I excelled both in obtaining my undergraduate degree and taking the LSAT.  I'm happy to give you some pointers.

You may have answered this before but I am lazy so I will ask again.  Are you going to stay in the insurance industry as a lawyer after you finish law school?

Also your thoughts on an idea.  Many places are so worried about liability they restrict access so I was thinking of some sort of waiver I could give a property owner to ease their minds based on they way they do things around here with hunting.  What are your thoughts on this from an insurance companies/lawyer perspective

Will depend on the money.  Insurance law seems rather boring, but is probably the easiest job I could get.  If I can get a job that pays well enough and leaves me with enough free time to pursue the things I like on a pro bono basis (Civil rights, indigent services, environmental, innocence project, hippie liberal causes in general) then I would have to think long and hard about that.

Liability waivers are common, pretty easy to put together, and generally very effective.  I don't 100% understand your question though.  You want to give a property owner a liability waiver that you have signed when hunting on their property?

Not hunting that was an example, here if you get hurt hunting on someones property the rules of liability are different.  Around here people are paranoid about liability and there are lots of great places to take the dog out or explore but they are off limits people won't even consider letting you on the property citing insurance regulations.  I was wondering how hard it would be to have fill in the blank waivers and if insurance companies would accept them without a problem.

An insurance company would be happy to use a liability waiver as evidence that they are not responsible for an injury, but as to whether they would advise their policyholder that they are okay with people exposing themselves to potential danger ... Probably not.  Insurance companies are extremely conservative.  I would think the harder issue to overcome would be convincing the landowner that the waiver would protect them.  It almost certainly would.

Nope, not factual either.

Jesus approves of bestiality?

Quite plainly not, but do you think God approves of false accusations?

There is no God, but if there was do you really think he would approve of your mounting that manatee?  I think it is probably cruel to the manatee.  Does the manatee know you are on here ogling women's breasts and assorted phalluses with shiny metal rings on them?  Does she know what you are doing on collarme and that felching site?  Can a manatee cry?  Do they feel disappointment?  These are the trying questions of our day.  It would have been so much easier living during the days when Jesus walked the earth.  Be Like Him.....

There is a God, and you will be held accountable for every word you've said by God.

God can lick my slimy brown asshole.

I'll fuck you till you love me Nathan  :eyebrows:

I miss Nathan

Yes, those two were there, but you had to press a link to see/use them. Now all are placed for direct use, when posting. There are more changes. But those three preachers stood out for me. :P

It's a social experiment of sorts. The reorder was for two purposes.  First, a lot of smileys that are never used were in the main page while many that were regularly used were in the pop-up.  I moved a few around to make it easier.  Second, I wanted to see how much a smiley's availability affected its use.  I imagine quite a bit.  And given that preachy soapbox diatribes are a popular type of post around here, I wanted to give everyone some options in response ;)

Thinking you might be describing my favorite preacher voice; it's an old time voice which sounds like it's coming from a tin can or over the radio in an isolated place where it's the only station to be found, spouting vehement warnings of the wrath of an angry god. Fervent fist pounding type preaching, in which a mere voice brings along with it a sense of bulging forehead veins and a fine spray of spittle.

Title: Re: MidlifeAspie
Post by: Jack on July 25, 2015, 07:48:45 PM
Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke. Through the wrath of the Lord of hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare his brother. And he shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied: they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm. ~Isaiah 9:18-20

I was more thinking of the "new" preacher who got inspired by the sixties. The "wavy" effect of a Hammond organ in his voice, a slight hiss, and talking to the flock in this very "understanding" way, making everyone feel totally uncomfortable, because of mental violation of personal comfort-zone. Preaching love only, but in such a suffocating way that it leaves yucky sensations.

Also enjoy the environment of a large congregation atmosphere with a high spirited evangelical preacher, just not as favorite; though definitely second favorite. It's easy to get lost in the crowd. The electricity generated in the air is truly palpable and makes the hairs stand up on the skin; it's easy to see how others might sense it too and find it to be something meaningful.

A sensation I recognise from singing psalms and hymns when I was young. Loved that. Still like to sing old psalms and hymns when alone.
The getting lost in an evangelical crowd is a scary thought for me. The creepy factor always outdid the belonging factor, actually, the belonging pressure was the creepy factor.

Part of the preference for the large crowd is because there's less of a likelihood of being directly mistaken as belonging. The creepy factor is the draw and the size of the group certainly lends to that, with the borg drone of massive congregation repeating in unison. It's like sitting in the epicenter of a mass hypnosis while being the only one awake. It's very interesting, exciting, and enjoyably creepy.
