Do you have a dx?

ADD at age 37, "very high functioning Asperger's" at 40. Taking Strattera for the ADD, not entirely sure the aspie dx was right though. I got it from an aspie psychologist who delayed the final report for weeks because he thought I might actually be socially phobic (I'm not) or schizoid (that is probably closest to the truth).

Does the Strattera help you?

Definitely...my reaction time (especially in conversation) is shorter; I am better able to keep track of time and stay on task too. It also has lessened my OCD, a fortunate side effect for some users. Of course, what works for me will not necessarily work for everyone.  :(
Title: Re: Hello...

How is it helping your OCD, if I may ask? I have OCD and I'm back on Zoloft for it, but it doesn't seem to help my focus.

And are you able to read when not on it?

Well, the OCD used to cause me real guilt and anguish; on Strattera, I still do the handwashing but I don't obsess about little sanitary hazards or about sickness I imagine I might have caused others. It's a great relief.

As for the reading: One thing I've recently realized is that I have never been an attentive reader, on medication or off it. I have the bad habit of skimming over written material rather than reading every word, which means I learn little and retain less. I could discipline myself to read properly, but in my current line of work (food service), I really don't need to read long passages or absorb a lot of information at one time...just have to double-check to be sure whether the recipe calls for a teaspoon or a tablespoon!  8)

*waves*  :snowman: Well, there is a term I read, "autistic cousin," meaning someone with some autistic traits but not necessarily enough for a formal dx, and when I first joined AFF I thought that was a good guess for what I was...even after I got an aspie dx, I still liked the name, and still think of myself more as a cousin. (I'm more socially adept now than I used to be.  :P)

Still snowing here!  :snowing:

Did it take you a long time to get the dx? Some places take longer than others.

CBC is fine, have been called that before. The dx was actually pretty quick...I was a client at a vocational rehab agency and their psychologist is an aspie, and I was already tentatively self-diagnosed anyway, so we met for a couple of hours, which included a psychiatric history and an IQ test, and 5 or 6 weeks later I got a copy of the report. He thought I might be socially phobic, avoidant or schizoid, so it took him awhile to settle on the aspie diagnosis.

My son's bruising is gone and he is fine.
My daughter copped it a little worse than first thought and has been going to physio and also has bruising on the lungs.
Me? Not too bad. Whiplash but not so bad considering.
Dodged another bullet there.
How you doing?

Getting older, got a couple of arthritic-looking index fingers but they're still mobile...sorry about the injuries, I wish you all a full recovery. You must have about 19 lives!

I don't do too much actual cooking, more just prep work (peeling & chopping) and serving and cleaning. But I do try to do a good job with the simple cooking jobs that I do have. I don't cook at home, since both jobs provide me with free food.

Getting paralyzed in the prime of life, or any other time, would sure suck.

Keeping the will to live, keeping hope in mind under those circumstances, must be a huge challenge for anyone. I'm not sure I could do it, and I hope I never have to find out.

I hope so. I read about a drug, currently in clinical trials, that seems to reverse some memory loss. In 20 more years, maybe there will be even better news than that.

She's doing as well as can be expected, is settled in the dementia unit of a very nice nursing home.  My father recently moved there as well;
though he is in a different part of the building, he can easily visit her every day.  Sorry about your dad and grandmother.   :(

So you're not keeping all your anger inside like you used to?

Now that you mention it, I am not.  I'm getting to the point faster when I speak.  8)

Welcome to my world.

I'm going on 12 years in June :zombiefuck: (even though it took almost 2 years just to get up the courage to finally post).

Wow, you and QV are here for almost 9 years now. You were so young and sweet and polite.  :cbc:
And I entered this place 11 years and 5 days ago.

Time does fly when having fun. And it's amazing how much more grey I am now.

Cbc is about 11 hours older than I am.  It was a very long delivery for odeon.  And yes, I was worth the agonizing wait.
