Since there are many people who don't like the U.S.A.'s foreign policy, I figure we should have a vote on who should be the biggest kid on the block.
I'll campain to re-elect the U.S. because:
1) We try to spread democracy, whenever it's possible
2) We try to create free market capitalism which, despite it's flaws is still better than other systems.
3) We've got real bitchin' weapon systems.
4) We're not as fucked up as those other guys.
-
I voted Germany because I'm curious to see what would happen then.
-
I think the USA is a bigger bully, but china is a meaner one. And who should be the world superpower is an entirely different question. I think the world superpower should be switzerland, or seattle.
-
Technically speaking none of the other options besides possibly China in the distant future actually stand a chance at being superpower.
-
Is there any equivelant to the united states on a smaller scale in history? And I know that is kind of a vague question, it actually depends mostly on how I look at the united states, but the reason I am asking, is because I wanna know when the superpowers of the future are looking back on the united states, how will they feel about the relationships they formed with all the other nations and peoples?
-
The U.S. is the last of the superpowers.
-
That is way too vague to answer. The conditions that the US is in are not similar to those that other people have gone through and I don't know what aspects of the US you really want to look over and how far back in history you would care to look at.
-
Yeah I know, I don't want to go into the details of what criteria i mean.
The thing is, as far as dominant powers go, the united states has been the least assholish i've heard of. Every other dominant power through time, when disrespect is shown, they retailiate like a petty child. And american to a large degree tolerates a lot of the disrespect shown to it. Much larger than I've ever heard of, but I am infinitely ignorant. So I may not know of a equivilant dominant power in history that tolerated this much disrespect.
-
I voted for U.S.A., since you're no cowards like most European countries are. Non-western countries are out of the question.
-
I voted "other". I'd choose Finland. :police:
-
Well, they're more competent than Sweden, anyhow.

The EU, because us Europeans are more civilized and show more restraint than you Americans. Basically, we've been around longer - we know how things work (we've already made our mistakes), and our solution to most problems is not "lets blow it up". Admittedly, the UK sided with America in the Iraq war, but the UK is unfortunately more US than European.
Also our welfare, economic and domestic policies and systems are fairer and more effective than yours. We don't have a national debt of $7 Trillion, we don't have homeless people dying on the streets, we have free health and education, and we don't have a society where half the black population are behind bars.

The EU countries are total hypocrites when it comes to foreign policy, France especially, imagine if one of those EU countries was a superpower like the USA, things would be very different. A lot of opposition in the West to US foreign policy, i.e the war on terror and the war on Iraq is based on resentment and envy of US power, economic and military. I do actually want a real American empire, firstly you are never going to please those types whatever the USA does and secondly an American empire would do a better job of policing the world than the United Nations does.
The major economies of western Europe (Britain expected) have not been doing as well in recent decades with things like double digit unemployment, mass exodus of professionals to countries like Britain and the USA where taxes are lower. Not to mention a Muslim minority of the marginalized who in places like the Netherlands and France are rioting.
-
I vote for the USA, There is no other country I would really trust for the job.
-
EU are cowards. They don't dare to clean up their own shit, like in Ex-Yugoslavia, but they're "brave" enough to whine and complain when the US do the job they should have done but didn't had the guts to.
-
EU's expanding, the US is becoming more isolationist as a result of their failed foreign policy and campaign in Iraq and China and India are rapidly growing industries and powerful armies. We have very interesting times ahead with the EU and possibly China getting more involved in areas that the US might become reluctant to involve themselves in.

Well the USA's economy is as big as whole of Europe and the EU is nowhere near as politically united as the USA is. Also the US's population is growing at 1% a year and could double in a century's time, Europe's will probably remain the same or decline. I've seen demographic projections will see the average European age go to 55 I think and the US remain the same at 35 in 50 years time, compared to now.
EU is nothing more a glorified free trading bloc. India is generally pro-USA in it's foreign and besides it will be age before it will become as powerful as the USA. Once the Communist regime in Beijing are gotten rid of, an democratic China is just as likely to be a strong US ally. Essentially in the long term future I see evangelical protestantism being a major religious force globally and a lot of the so-called Southern countries become strongly allied to the USA because of their evangelical protestant populations (sub-Saharan Africa, South and Central America and East Asia, including China).

i hope so, it would save us alot of money.
-
i hope so, it would save us alot of money.
Yeah but as bad a job that the US are doing i have to admit that most of the EU are cowards pulling out at the first sign of a body bag in peace-keeping areas, whilst many Islamic terrorists embrace their death so either way we're fucked.

Yes, of course, I can see the sophistication flowing from you. That is brilliant. ::) I mean, after all, the US has made so MANY errors compared to what European powers have done in the past and we are so indecent with the power we have all being considered.
As well, the average European nation has a deficit around the same level of their GDP as the US has. As well, your economic systems are inferior which can be noted by a lower GDP per capita, generally higher unemployment rates, as well as the greater tendencies towards subsidization and distrust of much of free trade. As well, your nations don't HAVE black people(at least not in significant numbers) so the comparison cannot be justly made, instead y'all have MUSLIM people who are having their own shit to deal with and their own economic problems.

Oh yeah, America is probably the least assholish. We did horrible things during the Cold War but a large part of that was due to a fear of the other power and is therefore somewhat excusable given the political climate in those days. We have done some other rank stuff as well but for the most part, other powers did worse. A lot of this might just be due to the fact that our foreign policy is often built upon isolationism and isolationists never help the world but they don't hurt it either.
-

Muslims are usually a much bigger problems than blacks here, but the governments here love muslims. They can sit in Swedish TV and threaten Sweden and the western world with jihad without the security police coming knocking on the door. If I wrote this on a Swedish or other European board, the security police more likely would pay me attention...

Many lefties and liberal jerks in Europe actually believe that 50% of the blacks are in jails in the US. They also believe that the majority of those blacks who actually are in jail are completely innocent.

Almost 1/4 of Blacks are involved in the criminal justice system. Many are on probation/parole and many are drug charges. One could argue that a large portion of the drug charges are B.S. but that's about all you could claim. Many whites and other races get caught up in those same laws.
-
Most of the grossest criminals in Europe in general and Sweden in particular (since our immigration laws and welfare systems are so generous) are either blacks, Arabs or from eastern Europe, especially Albania and Ex-Yugoslavia. Most gang rapists, drug dealers and mafia people are foreigners or immigrants. But that debate is taboo here. ::)
-
Yeah, I have to admit, blacks and Mexicans commit the most crimes here in the US. Some people use that as an excuse to be prejudiced, which isn't right.

The EU can kiss my arse. The nations don't get along, and therefore a complete waste of public money of all taxpayers of the European sector.

They thought that "here" referred to Intensity, when it referred to Europe. 8)

If the world was without misunderstanding it would probably be easier to navigate, but would it be worth the trouble?

to be clear; i knew that you were refering to europe.
however, you used the specific term; taboo. which is part of the discription for these threads in this section. so it is easy to see how the mistake could have happened.

Actually, we simply replied to your post the way it was written. "Here" usually means this place, meaning this board. On the Internet real-life, geographic locations are secondary. So in this case, there was no AS thing, just a post that made a reference in the wrong direction.

I voted other, for the UK, they have a longer history at being a superpower than the US. We've always been the uppity new kids on the Bloc. We don't have the rich colonial exploitation history that most countries in the European Union do! :-*

America IS the world bully.

But we have to decide it in a fair, democratic manner. :P

While we're at it, why don't we vote for North Korea, Saudi Arabia, China, Burma, Singapore, Iran, Zimbabwe, Kazahkstan, Syria, as the most democratic and free countries on Earth. I'm sure you'd all like to live in those places!

Once the Communist regime in Beijing are gotten rid of, an democratic China is just as likely to be a strong US ally.
Last I checked, the people in charge of China hadn't made plans for any such turnover any time soon. Whether naughty or nice, when China does something, waste no pity on the fool who stands in her way.
And I, for one, welcome our new overlords! I'd like to remind them that as a trusted Aspie personality, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground uranium mines.
