Title: Pipistrel Panthera
Post by: Yuri Bezmenov on September 16, 2016, 07:45:26 PM
It's introduction has been delayed.

They need to get off their asses and get them into production because I'm going to win the lottery any day now.  :P

Not into planes as such but that is a really nice looking machine.
Aesthetically pleasing.
I have a vague interest in vintage planes as I have a general interest in historical items, but beyond that...

Yes, obviously they invested a lot of money in the aerodynamics and the results are both beautiful and functional.

It's not the fastest plane on the market but its the fastest for the horsepower (210 HP) that you can buy.

It can cruise at 230 MPH with 4 people on board.

They must have put a lot of engineering into it to make it look so  delicate

It's mostly carbon fiber composites.

Pappy.  That's a nice looking plane.  And I'd probably buy one with my lottery winnings.....

..if I hadn't already created a damp patch in my shorts over the Cobalt Valkyrie.  If both our numbers come up we can have a race.

Looking at this, it's not likely to get off the ground anytime soon unless the company building it has a HUGE cash reserve ($100M) to stay afloat while they work the kinks out of it.

You're probably right.  But it's still a prime piece of plane porn.

If it came in black,  and the lines  more angular, coated with anti-reflective paint, I wouldn't mind myself.

Although why, did I expect this thread to be something involving a joke picture involving bats and heavy metal music.

The engineers spent thousands of hours getting the aerodynamics right in order to get class leading performance numbers. It can do 230 mph with a 210 HP engine at max weight. Why would you fuck with those performance numbers??

Why would you want it in anti-reflective black?? If you ever crashed in a remote area, it would be next to impossible to find you. Not to mention it would be unbearably hot on a warm summer day.

I mean, anti-radar countermeasures.

And 4 years latter the first Panthera finally gets delivered to the US.
This is what I hate about the modern aviation industry. It takes a decade and at least $100M to bring any new aircraft design to market.   :soapbox:
