Ask me questions about myself, and I'll probably answer honestly.

I have no idea what you mean!  Please explain.  I'll probably be a difficult sell - I usually tend to prefer my outsider status.   ;D

Yeah, can I be Official Outsider of the Aspie Elite?  It does suit me.   ;D

Who's ascan?

I see there was mention of a potential inbreeding project amongst aspies/auties.  I already have a fantasy aspie breeding plan in place for Craig Nicholls! >:D

Here's the plan:  I show up backstage at a Sydney Vines gig with my Borat sack at the ready.  I go up to him and say:

Hi, Craig.  You not know me, but I am loved you for very long time.  You asaberger, I asaberger also.  See this wedding sack I made.  See, thissa your name and thissa my name.  Now we go beach for make sexytime genetic explosions for future overtaking of world with our special interests.  And afterwards we go for dinner McDonald's, ok?  You like McDonald's, I like McDonald's also.  See, this going be perfect married life!  Wait...why you run so fast away?  I not understanding, Craig!!  Return me!!!   :'(

Alas, that's about the time the cops slam me to the ground.

My sweet Craiggie, he knows I'm harmless...

a poisonous, paranoid, bigoted, self-righteous, cowardly, truth-twisting piece of shit. he hates intensity and what we stand for. the feeling is pretty much mutual. The quote from 'Intensity's recruitment chairman' on the entry page is from him - we call him that because every time he shoots his mouth off with conspiracy theory bollocks about this place, loads of people come to see what all the fuss is about. we should pay him.

Long story. The potted version: he's an utter cunt and sees only shadows on sunny days - he got a bee in his bonnet about 'corrupt' moderators etc, despite this being the most open forum you'll ever see. Mcjagger pwned him in a callout and he deleted all his posts and slunk away. meanwhile, omega female, who was an admin here, started fucking him, and suddenly became totally emo and wittered on about bullying etc - very selective bullying, i.e. anyone who was in her clique or she saw as especially vulnerable. anyway, she fucked off after being caught sharing private information from the admin forum and fired, and being publicly humiliated over the web of lies she'd built up regarding a friend of hers she had been screwing over.

so they really don't like us.

Ascan doesn't have many friends, so he was probably trying to rip you a new one for the fun of it.

I disagreed with him when he was trying to defend the actions of Mark Downs, Jr., a T-ball coach who was convicted of offering an eight year old boy $25 to hit an autistic child with a ball during a pregame practice so he couldn't play.  Here is a link to the story:

http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/news/story?id=2588156

I also disagreed with him and Omega when they were blasting Intensity, of course.

I think that Calandale has some weird fascination with Ascan.

Quote from: calandale
Another aspie site, with nearly
unlimited freedom of speech.

Free to say anything unless it offends the megalomaniacs who run it, you mean. If you upset them, then you might not be directly banned there, but you'll end up banned on the other AS sites they moderate where they'll use the Terms of Service to generally intimidate you. They'll spread lies and slander, and do their best to interfere with your personal life. They'll modify your posts, append an offensive moniker to your screen name, and fuel a general witch-hunt against you spurring other members to send you threatening PMs. Furthermore, they orchestrate disruption of AS support sites such as this one, even going as far as taking images individuals have posted in "secure" areas to mock them. Indeed, a certain British AS support site had to temporarily suspend new membership after it came under attack.

I was indeed aware that some members there
launched attacks on sites which pissed them off.
All part of free speech. As to banning people from
other sites, I have no knowledge of that, and don't
have accounts at any such sites.

If any threats are received, you should seriously
consider taking legal action.

Look, not everyone there is a nice person. Same with
here. The only thing which it provides is a haven for
free speech.

Quote
The people who run the site in question are nasty, vindictive individuals, and several people here can testify to the levels of depravity to which they will stoop.

Right now, within the bounds of what is possible,
the membership as a whole run the site.

Quote
So calandale, stop trying to make out the place is something it's not, because one day you'll drag someone into there who isn't able to cope with that kind of stuff.

I'm not. I'm telling it like it is. I find it a
helpful place, for certain needs. Great
place to blow off steam, and fairly
good to have debates.

Quote
In fact advertising the place somewhere like this is grossly irresponsible, as many members here are particularly vulnerable.

As noted, I'm not advertising it.
Just giving my assessment, as
you have done. Indeed, I've probably
turned as many people away from joining,
as have sent links to.

I don't think that any admin here has done anything like what Ascan is saying.  Personally, I think that he is delusional.

I read that quote on the I2 entry page again, and now I can see that it's a quote from ascan!  He said the same thing in that wp post about me that was removed.  Something about me being a socially adept sychophant who encouraged my friends to attack vulnerable wp members.  He must have been responding to earlier posts I'd made about Kosmo being wp's best bullshit filter and how funny his posts were.  TBH I was actually flattered by those terms he threw at me - I've never been called such things in my life!  I'm a socially adept asskisser....yeah, come on!! :zoinks:  Think if I really did have the asskissing gene, I'd have been spending time making much over Alex' yellow shoes, etc. like some of those other folks.

I feel kind of bad for ascan, actually.  I don't even mean this in a condescending manner.  Looks like he doesn't have much of a sense of humor, and if he takes everything as seriously as he seems to, he's probably miserable.  No sense making others miserable too, though.

What's his girlfriend's username on WP?  I'll bet I can guess who she is.

I agree with this.  Seems like people here would be honest with you and tell you to get your head out of your ass when you're feeling sorry for yourself.  To me, that's a real friend.  The enablers who hang out on WP just want others to stay as miserable as they are, so they feed each other's whining.  They should take a look at the thread for Renaeden here and they'd see the right kind of support.  But whatever...you can't explain this to people who've been fed junk pop psychology about how you're never supposed to tell people the truth because it might hurt.   :-\

So, according to Ascan, you are a socially adept sycophant Aspie who encouraged your friends to attack vulnerable wp members too?  See, Ascan already hand picked you to join the Aspie Elite and you didn't even know it.

Omega's old name on WP was Hecate, but I think she made another account, which was called AntiHeather.  She might have made yet another one by now.  She is now the Merry Widow (http://www.intensitysquared.com/index.php?action=profile;u=3) here on Intensity.

I'll see if I can find one of AntiHeather's posts on WP.  Here is her first one, and I think that her others follow in this same thread:

http://www.wrongplanet.net/postp309555.html&highlight=#309555

There are some funny conspiracy ones in that thread from Ascan too.

I'm assuming that your virus scanning software is up to date, although my virus checker did not automatically switch on this time like it often does right after I visit WP.

Tony Harrison's favourite hobby (besides drinking outlandishly named Northern brews) is compiling a list of famous people with Asperger's Syndrome. He postumously diagnoses them if they are now dead. Are there an names you'd like to add or propose?

Hey, Ren!  Yes, the Siamese cat is mine.  Her name is Audrey Hepburn, and I'm glad you liked her pic.  I wish I could loan her to you right now - I think she'd make you feel much better!   ;D  She's a great stress reliever.

Oh, and let's see about the questions from Mohandas...

1.  I have no dead names to add to Tony's list at present.
2.  Florescent lights don't bother me.  Sudden loud noises piss me off.   :-\
3.  I'm having a difficult time picking a favorite emoticon!  This one is pretty funny.   :halitosis:
4.  Didn't see the Glass Spider tour, although I know others who did.  Not a big Bowie fan in general.

Sorry if these answers are boring...I'm a bit hungover at present.   ::)

Yeah, she's our first Siamese.  She's got a really funny personality and even has strong facial expressions.  Whenever we thwart her in some attempt to misbehave, she'll growl really loudly and start racing through the house.  She talks a lot - it's cool how Siamese are so vocal.  I always laugh at her voice.  I'm pretty sure she's cussing me alot.

I had a Siamese cat or probably a mix who was very vocal too.  She was so smart too.  She could open the screen door to come inside the house, and she taught her kittens to do it too.  She had a really sweet disposition, though.

I don't see that much difference.
Well, there's less MEAT here. And
thus less chance for people to wax
soporifically upon it. Not everyone
seems capable of posting without
far too much digression.

what meat? digression has nothing to do with it.

Damned little here. What there was at WP mostly bored me

are better. When I get to something I care about though, I
babble incoherently too.

Oops, sorry.  I just now saw these last couple of posts.  ADHD acting up again.   :P

The PTSD was caused by a bunch of pretty bad stuff that I'd feel weird going into here, I'm sorry.  I've been in counseling for two years, and I'm just now opening up about it to her, so.   :-\  Thanks for being interested, though.   :)

I'm more comfortable with Cal's horny question, but unfortunately I don't have an answer!!  I'm sorry, but I've never even kissed another female.  Tried once but just couldn't stomach it.  But I did have a threesome once when I was single, years ago with a friend of mine and her guy.  So I guess the most erotic thing I've done with another woman is...a man.  Of course, I'm sure that doesn't qualify as a true "threesome" with purists.

Sorry, Cal.  Now you'll really think I'm stolid and bland, oh well...

I'm starting to loosen up a little.  Being off Ritalin helps - it did make me pretty bland, I know.

Some of my silliness is returning.  I've come up with an idea for a RPG for a few of us, just absolutely ridiculous but it makes me laugh to think about it.

Let's see...I'll call it Hysteria Lane.

Cal, you and I have been married for quite some time.  I'm a very successful hack novelist of the Jackie Collins school, and you're a famous dancer who's just been made the new judge of Dancing with the Stars.  Soph is our brilliant daughter, an aspiring historian and photographer and our pride and joy.  Unfortunately, the feeling isn't mutual.  She's completely mortified by us because, let's face it...we are completely disgusting people!  I'm exceedingly critical of all Soph's girlfriends, while you're busy trying to expand their sexual horizons.  Meanwhile, you're also diddling the 16-year-old neighbor girl and her mom.  Kosmo is my *cough* accountant and confidant, who's trying to help me out of a serious gambling addiction acquired while we were living in Vegas for your dancing career.  Tensions have really begun to flare between you and I recently, because you've finally realized that you're tired of chasing these young girls, and that you are really deeply in love with Kosmo.  Not sure what will happen next.   :zoinks:

Yeah, she mentioned on my Craig thread on WP that she'd gotten a hard time on there, and I pulled up all her posts and read them.  They made me feel like shit too, because they reminded me of exactly how I reacted to teasing when I was her age.  I never discussed it further with her, because I got the impression that she didn't want to spend time on there anymore, and I didn't want to encourage her to come back and then her wind up having another bad experience.  Kids can be such shits.   :-\

How old is that ascan, anyway?  I got the impression he was an older guy, but I can never tell on these forums.
No idea. Though if you still have access to WP, then ask him, he shows their occasionally I believe.
I can still access WP, but haven't really been on there in several months.  Just check my pms once in awhile.  I don't like it there - it was depressing to me after awhile.

She said she remembered you from there  :orly:
I guess she must have only been lurking or using another username while I was actually on there, because I joined long after her last post as Starbuline.  She told me she had a hard time on there.  That was really the first place I ever posted, and I just went on there acting like a moron because I really didn't give a shit.  I was a thousand years older than those kids, so I wasn't too worried about being accepted.  It was fun.  Haven't been on there in awhile, although I stay in touch with several folks.
YeaH I never talked to her much about that site, just a couple of times, but I remember her saying she remembered you from there. I saw some of her posts on there once, and I saw her getting a hard time from a couple of people. Made me feel shit, but at least she was liked by everyone (apart from the cunts) on zomg and wp. She posted a picture of him that she'd drawn once.
They can. It's worse because she got so much shit IRL as well, and then joined a forum and people were mean to her there too. I'm glad she found places where people were nice and liked her as much as she deserved. I feel sick thinkng about her being so sad all the time

I know it.  What really sucked ass about it was that she didn't want to reveal her AS on there, for fear of people saying she was trying to copy Craig.  But if she had done so and survived the initial onslaught, I think she would have ended up being treated well there.  Most of them are good kids.  But I understand why she didn't do it - they'd have surely given her hell about the AS thing, at first.  I just don't think there were any easy answers.  But I do know that meeting you was a godsend for her.  She found someone her age to really bond with, and most of the rest of us couldn't have offered her that to the extent that you did.

I told her about it, but she hasn't seemed interested in pursuing it further.  :-\  Judging from the website, it does sound like she has it.  She says the letters don't really look distorted or move around when she reads, but she has trouble recognizing certain words...she'll mistake a word for another one that looks similar, and this slows her reading down.  She's funny...I actually don't think she really wants to read much.  She dropped out of school in 8th grade because of reading problems, even though she was great at math and science and wanted to stay in school.  She was so ashamed of being unable to read well enough to keep up, that now so many years later she's still kind of angry and defensive about it.  She still feels that people think she's dumb, even though we all go out of our way to reassure her otherwise.  Oh, well...thanks anyway for the info.  It was really interesting.   :)

Seems like your mum has a form of dyslexia? Dyslexia doesn't mean dumb but I know you know that.

Why the change of name? What does it mean?
Title: Re: Fire Away....Metaphorically Speaking
Post by: Tristeza on January 29, 2008, 09:36:26 AM
Yeah, she's definitely not dumb...but she has a lot of emotional baggage about the AS-related stuff.  She's doing better now that she's gotten older, I guess she has more confidence now.  She and I are close friends, but it's not a regular mother-daughter relationship.  I have to watch my step with her sometimes, certain things just aren't worth getting into.

I changed my name because I got tired of the other one, and most everyone else on here seems to change their names a lot.  Raskolnikovna is a reference to the character Raskolnikov, from Dostoyevsky's Crime & Punishment.  Raskolnikovna isn't really grammatically correct Russian, but wtf.   :zoinks:

I have good friends in Nuernberg, Germany and Graz, Austria.  I like Central Europe a lot.  I only like visiting there in October or November, though.  I hate going somewhere like that in the summer, with all the tourists.  I like walking around in the cold and fog by myself, looking at all the old buildings, drinking espresso, smoking cigarettes and generally behaving like an emo.   :)

Soph, I think you live in a cool city.  I'd love to see Manchester.  I spent the entire 1990s enjoying a fixation on dark, industrial English towns and Britpop music.  One day I'll come visit you and Kosmo.  We'll get you out of the house and take you to the pub.     I'd also like to make a Bronte pilgrimage to the Yorkshire moors, see if Ralph Fiennes is wandering around there in a puffy shirt.

Also you would have to see the museums
We have cool museums here
Obviously you would have to see the frogs and axolotls  :P
There are mummies there. Some of them have a mummified penis which I think you would find interesting, next time I go I will take a picture  :toporly:

We have a museum of science and industry too and a labour history museum and a war museum, which was where I wanted to take Sophie. I told her she should come and see the Soviet stuff there, they have a big Russian T-34 tank on display, which I will take a photo of on Friday

You would get to see my Sophie tree as well
There used to be a church right there, it got bombed by the Luftwaffe, you can see the church on this old map I have:
The Sophie tree is in the south-west corner of that square it's in:

And we have the best football team in the world  8)
I saw a European cup final between AC Milan and Juventus (another italian team) at Manchester United's ground once. I also saw United and England play there

Well, we've gotta present my travel plans tactfully to Kosmo, because otherwise he'll be afraid I'm coming over there to rape him!

Do you like football (soccer)?

Do you like the ocean?

Well, teeheehee, Renaeden.     Thanks for such kind words.  Actually, I've been thinking all day that everyone here probably thinks I'm an asshole extraordinaire!  So you made me feel better, Ren.  But you actually don't count much...cos you seem to be able to see the good in anyone.   :)

Do I consider myself a nice person??  Yeah, kind of.  But my personality is very convoluted and fucked-up, and I often worry that I hurt people when I don't mean to.  I'm very flip and smartass about most everything, and I know that puts a lot of people off.  I guess that's why I do that, subconsciously.  Defense mechanisms are my stock in trade - I have so fucking many of them that I could never finish counting.

I'm happy that you like me, because I think I tend to put other women off .  I have a very hard time identifying with other women.  Yes Soph, even you sometimes.  This isn't a point of pride with me at all - I wish so badly that I wasn't this way.  It sucks.  That's why I want to barf whenever I read women's posts bragging about how they think like a guy, they're so tough, they don't take any shit off guys, blahblahblah.  They just wind up sounding like abrasive buttholes.  Most of them are lying anyway, because they end up contradicting themselves out the yang when it comes to issues with men.  I can't figure out why they'd want to pretend to be so tough.  I'm working my ass off to get less tough, and it's costing me a zillion bucks in therapy.

So that was a long-ass answer to your question.  Sorry about that.  Thanks for always being so nice to me, Ren.

I love soccer for one reason...the guys.  Yesh, soccer guys are hot indeed.   >:D

I like the beach.  My in-laws have a condo in Florida, right on the ocean.  One day we'll retire down there, or even further south, like Mexico.  But I don't really like swimming in the ocean, at least not the Atlantic - too cruddy with stuff.  The Caribbean is nice to swim in.

They are confusing and they confuse me. That is all I know.
Although I guess it's different for me

Anyway, I don't think you would hurt people. Not from how you are online anyway. I have bad defense mechanisms that isolate me from people a lot. Makes it hard to get close to people and stuff. I like you how you are though, and you ave helped me a lot since Starbuline died (plus you got Spaceship dedicated to her :D ) She didn't tend to get on with women that well either.

Yeah, Soph...Star's posts on WP reminded me alot of myself at that age.  I know that my own issues come from not having a "mother figure" lol, and being so emotionally close to my father.  I sometimes wondered what Star's relationship with her mom was like, and whether she was closer to her dad.  It seemed so, but I didn't know her enough to be sure.  There were just some things about her that reminded me of my entire family set-up.  It's hard to describe, but it definitely makes for a certain type of personality.   :-\

I was really glad to get that dedication done.  I had some of my own guilt about her, even though we weren't close.  I've told you about it before.  I felt guilty because I couldn't have helped her the way you and Cal did.  I was just too fucking much like her.  I'm so cynical, or at least I was over on WP (I'm getting better, thank you, Therapist) and I was afraid if I got involved with her that I'd make her worse.  Looking back, I guess I did the right thing.  I don't think I was in any position at all to help a suicidally depressed kid, especially one I identified so closely with.

To be perfectly honest, I was afraid I'd come to care too much about her, and that freaked me out.  I was afraid I'd start feeling like she was my daughter or something, and that just scared me.  She wasn't old enough for me to do nothing but just sit around and swap pictures of Craig's ass with, and talk about supermodels and whatever.  I felt like I would have had to actually be some kind of role-model for her, give her direction and advice for her life, and I just didn't think I could do it.  I was going through too much of my own dogshit then, and I was glad when you showed up because I felt like she had someone her own age.

I think that's one of the reasons I wanted to help you when she died.  Not just out of guilt  - believe me, I don't feel that guilty about much of anything, unfortunately.  More just being in better shape myself now, and able to help out a little.

And I got this little babydoll to help out, too!!

Yeah I've noticed you like that picture
His hair looks cool on that, I wish I had hair like his

I've been thinking about my guilt a lot today
Everyone always tells me it's just the way everyone reacts to someone they love dying from suicide. That friends and family always feel guilt. But it's not that with me, I actually KNOW I am responsible in a way, so I don't know how I can ever get rid of it.

I don't think you should feel guilty though - you did something really awesome for her in November, and there are loads of other people who should feel guilty for what they did or didn't do, I don't think you should though.

I think she is probably a lot like how you probably were when you were her age, from what you've posted. She had problems with her family while she was growing up, and argued with her mom etc. They loved her more than anything though, and did everything they could to help her. She felt awful for leaving them. She wasn't thinking right. She said she hopes they can be a happier family now. That just shows how much she wasn't seeing things properly.

I miss her so much it's painful

That's rough.  I feel so badly for you and for her family.  Do you blame yourself for not actually going to her in SF?  Is that what you mean by being responsible?

Yeah
I know I wasn't actively responsible... or whatever... but I was responsible in that I didn't do enough to prevent it

I know I tried, and I did everything I knew I could at the time. But I was stupid. I've been reading through my chatlogs all the time since it happened, and I can see places where she said things, and I should have realised what was happening, or I should have told her certain things, but I never thought to.

Out of what I knew at the time, I did everything but go there. And although that would have been really hard, it was at least physically possible. I COULD have got the money somehow. I COULD phsycially have got on a plane. And I would have been able to stay with her. I regret that more than anything. Not just that I could have stopped her, but also that we never got to spend time together IRL.

She relied on me so much, and I failed her. I know people just say I'm feeling guilty and it's not really like that, but it is. I was her best friend. She came to me for help. Even her dad said I was the only person who had really been her friend that year. How can I have fucked up so bad? She was lonely and her only real friend (how she saw it) didn't go to be with her when she wanted.

Even if I couldn't have stopped her (which I could), I could have at least been there with her. She didn't want to be on her own, and she would have been so scared doing it on her own. She said she wished she was in England once, so that we could do it together. Obviously I would never have let that happen, but if it was the only option, I'd have rather it had been like that, than on her own.  So I failed hr twice over. I couldn't save her. And I couldn't be there with her when she was lonely and scared. She was only 16.

What would it take for you to step back and decide not to assume so much responsibility for her actions?  Haha, now I sound like a therapist.  But seriously, you should think about what it would take for you to be able to put her actions in perspective and accept that they were her actions.  There's nothing you can do to change the past, and you shouldn't waste your present and future going back over this stuff all the time.  You might have been able to prevent it from happening right when it did, but eventually it would have happened anyway, if she'd continued down that path.  Seems to me that she had it as a goal, and no one could have really stopped her if she was serious about it.

Goodnight :)

I don't know what would make me stop. I don't think anything can really. She didn't want to be alone, and I think if we had been together IRL, I could have helped her, long-term. I really think she would have got better eventually. I know it would take way more than that to help her with her ED and BPD and stuff, but it would have been a start. She wouldn't have been so alone at least. And she would finally have known that she was lovable IRL

I am ashamed to admit that I have not read that book.  I feel like a total tool admitting this.  He's fucking brilliant, but for some reason this novel hasn't really tempted me.  I did see his movie The Proposition, and I thought it was fantastic.  He wrote the screenplay and did the music - it was excellent.  I would definitely recommend it.  Great acting by Ray Winstone, Guy Pearce, Emily Watson & Danny Huston.  Hard to beat that cast.

Have you ever experienced sleep paralysis?
Title: Re: Fire Away....Metaphorically Speaking
Post by: Tristeza on February 10, 2008, 11:55:07 AM
What's sleep paralysis?   ???

Like when you're having a nightmare and you can't scream or wake yourself up, etc?  I've had lots of weird things happen when I'm sleeping.  I used to stop breathing and then wake up gasping for breath.  If something woke me up, I'd jump out of bed and land hard with both feet, completely awake (absolutely freaked my husband out for years).  Also used to sleep with my fists clenched - just stopped doing that in the past couple of years.

So I have a weird sleep history.  Lately, I've been sleeping very light and waking up at the least little thing - thank God I don't jump up anymore, though.  I think the insomnia is hormone-related, as I'm getting to the pre-menopausal stage, oh joy.   :-\

I can't figure out why they'd want to pretend to be so tough.  I'm working my ass off to get less tough, and it's costing me a zillion bucks in therapy.

 :-\

Because the most healthy state is a balance. It is also possible to be so far out on the helpless victim side of things that the working one's ass off and the zillion bucks in therapy go to bringing toughness out into the open.

Sort of. It is like you are almost awake and you want to get up and move but you can't. I used to get it several times a night. I haven't had it happen for about a week now.

Yes, I get that fairly often.  It's annoying when I need to get up and wee, but just can't get awake enough to move.  Haven't wet the bed yet, though...so that's a good thing.   :)

I guess you don't know me, so I can't blame you for making the mistake. But I don't particularly relate to women. All my friends but one are guys, and even on here it's the guys I end up liking.

I don't think I would find it that comforting to talk to another woman about being powerless. Even when I do talk about it, it tends to be with guys who can relate. (Some can.) I haven't yet figured out how to get along with a female therapist - I tend to get antagonistic towards them very quickly.

That's just me, though. I know you're in a different place, and it's not particularly enviable, despite what it looks like from my side of the fence.

Yeah, I like my name a lot.  It suits my personality.  But then maybe my personality came from the name.  I don't know why my mom named me that, other than she loved Italian movie stars and she wanted to name me something dramatic.  :zoinks:

I think if I'd been named after a nurse I'd probably have been much sweeter and not such a shouter!     Maybe that's why you're such a nice person, Ren.  Maybe there's something to the idea of being named after someone.  I like to think that things like that have some truth to them.

I got named after a nurse because I am a twin and my mum didn't know she was having two until half an hour before we were born, so she only had names picked for one of us. Those names went to my sister - Nikki Maree.

I haven't known any one named Carla or Carlotta in rl. I like that name.
