Title: SleepyDragon's Den of Mystery and Self-Serving Obfuscation
Post by: SleepyDragon on March 11, 2009, 05:32:26 AM
Then again, I might just make brief, to-the-point responses, and bore everybody witless. Who's game enough to take the punt?

The name of "Dragon" was bestowed upon me by my loving family, in recognition of my charming personality (except not!!!) first thing in the morning. I wear it with pride. :green:

is it a fudgey chocolate punt? :zoinks:

Hey, now there's an idea that the casinos really ought to look into! Betting chips made from deluxe milk and dark chocolate, with assorted fillings.

i didn't even know what a punt was  but sounds good for all those betaholics. if they use chocolate they're avoiding massive debt, except they might get fat if they win big.

"Here" as in "still a member." I suspect he doesn't call in too often any more.

No, he doesn't from what I have seen in the last three months. How is the bead making going?

Kali's the sensitive type, then?
Title: Re: SleepyDragon's Den of Mystery and Self-Serving Obfuscation

The beadmaking is going in fits and starts. I get out my equipment, and the canes which have been "resting" in the fridge. I put it all on the table and I say to myself, right, while those canes are coming up to room temp, I'll just take 15 or 20 minutes and go check for new posts online....

Two or three hours later I put everything away and promise myself, I really will get to that tomorrow. :)

As for Kali, I don't think he's any more sensitive than any of the rest of us. I think he's just finding things to do that don't involve staring at a screen for hours on end. The nerve of him! ;D

Have you been doing new beadwork lately? Do you sell them or give them to people? I make Japanese braids but I haven't posted a picture yet, GA keeps taking the photos off the camera...

I'll be fascinated to see your Japanese braids when you get a chance to post some pics.

I put any new claying projects on hold during the Christmas and school-holiday period. Too many other distractions to concentrate on it fully. Also, when the door fell off my oven, I got one of those toaster-ovens so I could still bake beads, but it's fiddly to use. I did do a bit of necklace-stringing, with a view to hosting one of those home parties so friends and neighbours could look and buy. That didn't come off, which was too bad in one way (I've got a buttload of finished pieces which I can't possibly wear all of, myself :) ) and a big relief in another way (aspie that I am, opening up myself and my work to close scrutiny is a less-than-delightful prospect).

I'm about to get stuck into the claying again, though. It's a fantastic hobby; the possibilities of what you can do with it are limited only by imagination. The clayers' forum I go on has a little contest every month to get everybody's creative juices flowing. To start off the year, our theme is hearts: We can come up with beads or a pendant or a wall hanging or anything, using any materials and techniques we want, just as long as it ties in with the hearts theme. I've been staying up till all hours browsing online, looking at what other artists have done. There are at least three things I'd like to try. I can't wait to get my hands on it! Once my boys go back to school, it'll be a lot easier.

Here's a link to my Photobucket album of claying and beadwork pics, for anyone who wants to have a look.

I just checked your beads out....they are beautiful! Do you sell them at markets or anything? If you aren't you should.

You shouldn't worry about people scrutinising them, they are gorgeous.....but hard if you are a perfectionist...but they are amazing, you shouldn't worry.

I've got the beadmaking operation on hold for the time being, and when the school term starts up next week I'm hoping to get some pieces made from the huge stash of finished beads that's piled up in the corner.

The claying site I go on, quite a few people there have Etsy and eBay shops, but markets, carboot sales and such are more appealing to me. I looked into selling my beads unstrung through a local bead shop, but I'd be giving them away for under cost. Finished necklaces and other pieces sell better. I have to get some technical mastery happening, so that what I make not only looks good, but will stand up to wear and tear as well.

This is the bracelet I sent to renaeden:

In return she sent me some gorgeous Japanese-braided zipper pulls and a necklace. Me likey.

I can't see the pic :( please try again when you have the time!

Yes, you are right, selling seperately is not the go. The ones you've strung, like the fish necklace are really special, so you are good at it, you should make the whole pieces.

Two other things come to mind, do you live near a city or more outside of that?....because the two options I see are selling them to really funky alternative places, or upmarket boutiques. You've probably thought of both, but you really should do it!!!

Now that you mention it, many of the clay artists I see online use Flickr to host their photos. Might be worth looking into, and thanks for the tip.

What is your cup size?

Are your areola large or small?

Are your areola pink or dark?

How do you shave your muff? (clean shaven, landing strip, triangle, heart, etc)
