Garfunkel sings like an angel. A guy I used to work with heard this song on his way
to Basic Training as a (probably scared) Vietnam-era Marine, he never forgot it.

He is brilliant. I hate the fact that he's lost his voice now.

I didn't know that. Sucks to lose one's means of artistic expression. :(

He hasn't lost it completely, he's simply past 70 and his voice has changed.

Motley Crue guitarist Mick Mars has been increasingly disabled for decades by ankylosing spondylitis,
but although his entire spine is fused, his hands still work, so he can still play guitar. :scenester: "Fuck yeah!"
Probably what keeps him going despite constant pain. I couldn't have stood that kind of pain for so long.

The kid has been blasting Rammstein lately...Amerika.
I like them...a fucking lot. Been going through their other videos on the tube.
http://youtu.be/1M4ADcMn3dA
http://youtu.be/EOnSh3QlpbQ
-
Love rammstein, can't stand that track. Worst thing they ever did.
Favourites I think personally are 'spring' 'ich will' 'ohne dich', 'mein herz brennt' and 'mann gegen mann'
Another band I like thats getting a lot of play of late is ASP. They have serious talent IMO, as good or better than rammstein.
Listening to this-ASP-zaubererbruder. https://youtu.be/iUKgzPfcF1o
-
Nice. Kid and I both like it.
Pulled up the lyrics and like it even more.
-
Another band you'll probably want to check out, is Eisbrecher. Heavier than ASP or rammstein, 'komm susser tod' *spelled with the 's' being the germanic character similar to the greek letter beta, but I'm fucking lazy and can't be arsed going to the library to go dig up the right key combination for the ASCII* is a good one. Others I'd reccomend are 'verruckt' 'vergissmeinnicht' and susswasserfisch'
https://youtu.be/0yPLVkxQNfg you will like methinks.
-
Keeping it old school and simple, right now.

Not really heavy metal, its industrial.

This is Jerry Goldsmith's original end title for Alien.
It was ultimately replaced on the soundtrack by Howard Hanson's

Monkeyboy only listens to music on cassettes. That's his favourite thing to shop for at the thrift store. He has a huge collection now. I gave him my Walkman from high school and that's how he goes about town listening to his music. 8)
I was obsessed with MJ in the sixth grade. I had posters of him all over my room, I had the MJ Barbie doll. My best friend and I did a dance routine at the school talent show to an MJ song, of course one sparkly glove had to be part of our costume.

Dammit, Thom Yorke is no good for getting out of bed in the morning, silly me .
Switched to this:

Absolute classic, and just what I need :)
Btw, this is not the original, not even KC, just an especially brilliant cover.
Steve Hackett – guitar, harmonica, vocals
Ian McDonald – flute, saxophone, guitar, keyboards, vocals
Julian Colbeck – keyboards, vocals
John Wetton – bass, guitar, vocals
Chester Thompson – drums
(almost a Who's Who of Prog Rock)
The original album is no longer available on You Tube. And I have no way of sharing my CD , nor my ancient vinyl copy with you :(
Im not so keen on later later live perormances of the song by King Crimson themselves, because the songs from that album just don't sound the same without Greg Lake's vocals. But this guy sings it exactly like Lake!

a proper British punk would rather slit his own throat that be caught listening to to prog rock
I've noticed a few people here and there using that abum cover as their ava.
In 2015, Rolling Stone named In the Court of the Crimson King the second greatest progressive rock album of all time, behind Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon.[21] The album is also featured in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.[22]

You mean the Chimaira track QV? lol why. That bass riff is awesome, got to be one of my favourite Chimaira songs of all. I just fucking wish to high fuck that I'd have gotten to see them when they had a lineup with Kittie and Ill Nino in the late '90s. I love Kittie, especially their early releases, and before Talena Atfield, one of their bassists left. And of the Ill Nino stuff I've heard, seems decent generally.

I remember her from back in the day. Beautiful voice.
My mother played her religiously in the 70's especially. I still remember the episode of Sesame Street that she was on talking about breastfeeding and I had never seen an Indigenous woman on tv before. I was spellbound because I grew up feeling like I never quite fit in being a mixed blood.

And the terrified dreams of our wanderings
That once lit our way are now hid
We want punks in the palace
'Cause punks got the loveliest dreams
And our gang is liquored and lovely
And smart and sweet and lean
And burn with a curious flame
That spits and kicks and shines And trumpets the labour of waking and trying
There ain't none, sometimes there is
Banged and bitter but cling to it
Power's the province of miserable pricks
There ain't none but sometimes there is
Policemen in parallel lines
Blind blind blind
The broken bones of quivering pines
While empty waters rise
May the light of our striving still shine
Blind blind blind
May the light of our striving still shine
May the light of our striving still shine
Love the horse or leave the horse
Love the horse or leave the horse
Lovers, lovers
Some hearts are true
Some hearts are true
Ahoy! Ye bland plump boys
Go tear wings for vainful gain
Our homemade choirs like forest fires
Hiss 'neath golden rain
And slip the leash and the chain
And slip the leash and the chain
'Cause some hearts are true
But some hearts are'nt hardly true
But some hearts are true

The tune you posted isn't that bad sounding to me. There are two genres of music I hate - Country music and most Indie.
'Scuse extremely belated reply!
Ooh! I dislike Country Music too! ...well, most of it. Ummm...But then there's the Be Good Tanyas . ( They're sort of, umm, halff-country. And impossible to dislike, IMO)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdIhpkEkC4c
But i seem to like most Indie music. I don't think Indie is a genre though, is it?

This is my son's choice. We had a happy moment, amonst all the sad discussions this week, when a line from this particulr Dylan song was mentioned and we both agreed, enthusiastically, that Fairport did the best ever cover of it. He then insisted on playing it, at as near to volume as my crappy speakers can reasonably accomodate, and we sang along together, then hugged :)
(one of us can sing, one can't . but ooooh, we both know all the words)
Playing it again, right now :)

I first heard this in a doctor's waiting room, and I memorized a line from it so I could
type the words in for a Google search. R.I.P., Sandy Denny. Beautiful voice, gone too soon.

Haven't steeleye span done some covers of fairport convention, or vice versa?

Haven't steeleye span done some covers of fairport convention, or vice versa?
Hmm intersting question. Didn't Steeleye Span pretty much exclusively "cover" traditional folk ? I think Fairport also did some of the songs, but ya couldn't really accuse them of ripping off Steeleye. A lot of folk bands did their own versions.
More interesting to me, is the revelation that Lestat knows a thing or two about Folk! Who'd have thunk it?
And, given that Steeleye had a mention,. and given that Christmas is on the horizion, here's one my favourite Steeleye songs ...and one of the very few Xmas songs I can stand:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDc2FD-vy8M.
Comment on your offerering, Lestat : it kinda reminds of NIN's "Hurt" (subject rather than style) . Pity about that really, because just about everything suffers by comparison, and it is pretty good.

:indeed: And here's her very best recording IMO. Her rendition of this song (along with Fairport's haunting backing ) has pretty much ruined every other recording of "she moves through the Fair" for me.

Gaudete is one of my favourites by them. I say 'by them', steeleye that is, its their rendition of it, its a traditional folk song which dates back to at least as early as the 15th century, probably at least mid to late 14th century.
Its old enough that no band doing that number would be ripping it off. Its fair game for anybody.
And lol whaddya mean Walkie m'dear? Who'da thunk whatwhynow? I have a fairly...eclectic mixture of tastes. Although for the most part metal of various kinds, and industrial are my things. There are other things I like.

OOh. Mentioned Papa Legba on another thread and suddenly thought of this. An awesome perforfnnce from one of my favorite films. I remember I tried and tried to get a copy of the soundtrack, and a copy of the video, but no dice. But that was before m,ultimedia internet. I'll bet I could download the lot now, no sweat. All I could get was the Talking Heads album where they performed every song from the film themnselves. Wonderful (and I did want that too) but they just couldn't compete with this:

Thanks for that. listening to it. i do actually like bits of it. Went so far as to look it up find this very positive review of it:
http://www.goldminemag.com/reviews/album-reviews/olias-sunhillow-sacd-masterpiece
But , at the end of the day, it just sounds too much like "Yes" for my tastes  Reminded me that prog-rock was not exactly a single, indivisible genre with a single indivisible audience (the way I tend to remember it) My school mate, Ruth loved "Yes" and read a lot of pulp fiction. I loved Pink Floyd and King Crimson, and read a lot of serious SF ( Asimov, Clarke, Aldiss, LeGuin, Siverberg...) We had zero in common, when it came to music, reading, or any other damned thing (so why were we mates? Well, we were both misfits in our fashion, rejected and sneered at by the other little cliques, so we drifted into a sort of underdog's clique; a very bizarre and mismatched little assortment ). Her efforts to convert me to "Yes" fandom just left me cold *sigh*
So anyway, least I can say is : this brings back memories! So, thanks :)

Huh, according to urban dictionary the word “wob” is the way to describe a bassy sound, though that sound in that tune isn’t bassy as such. It also means waste of breath.

Lol thats those 'VEVO' wanksocks alright. Useless coagulated dollop of putrescent, mold-riddled sperm that they are, with their filthy fucking censorship.
I deliberately boycott all videos published by 'VEVO' on youtube. They censor 'bad' language for fucking cunting bastardly hell-shit's sake. And in music, the words can be everything when it comes to the meaning and emotion in a song. That can include swearing and other profanity. They even censor the word 'faggots' when the person singing it is Otep Shamaya. (in 'Rise, Rebel, Resist') (band 'Otep', and the lead singer, Otep Shamaya, is a lezbo, and those VEVO cunts censor the line 'I'm one of the freaks, the faggots, the geeks, the separatists, rogues rebels dissident devils artists martyrs infidels....ROOOOOAAAARR.......Rise, Rebel RESAAAEEEHHHHSST! RISE! REBEL! MAKE A FIST-RESIST!' in her best earpiercing growl-scream. And boy...oh damn can Otep ever do one helluva screamed growl in her vocals.
In fact I might just put that on now, the non-censored VEVO-infection-less version that is. Because VEVO can suck my autistic dick and call it an ice lolly.
-
Look up the tune then so you can hear the lyrics! :) It’s funny!
They censored Eminem’s Stan and basically you can’t hear half of the story, and it is such a great story. They do that on TV too with that tune. >:(

Been listning to some oldschool stuff, Fields of the Nephilim, and Carl McCoy's splitoff band the nefilim. Particularly a song called 'laura', that I've always loved, as it makes me think of a girl I knew at my first spazz school, LFA lass called laura, thats got this cute ass fountain of youth kind of effect about her, both young at heart in that she carries a light heart if that makes sense, and still looks in her youngest teens at about 33-34yo. Gorgeous girl, I've not seen her often since I left the school, and I miss her a lot. I need to get her address from another friend of mine who by sheer coincidence, because as a kid she had ADHD or ADD, kel, got to get her address from kel again so we can pay laura another visit. She is one of a tiny, tiny number of people I know I could give over myself in full, if laura would, when asked, wish to take me as her own. Because I have loved her, although even now she doesn't know it, for many, many, many years, ever since we were about 10-11 on my part and maybe 12-13 on hers, in my LFA school. Always have had deep feelings for her, and I'd love for us to get properly reacquainted and then to ask her if she might want me as something more, tell her finally what I didn't have the guts at that young age back then, that if she only wishes to reach out and pick the lestat-fruit from it's tree, then every last bite is hers, and guaranteed tender:) Fuck...every time I listen to that FOTN song 'laura' I think of her and it kinda pulls at my heart-strings if that makes sense; because she is just the kindest, warmest, sweetest young lady you could ever hope to meet. Tiny, physically, very, very petite, kinda light brown-ey blonde hair and a high-pitched squeaky kinda voice, probably because she is...well...tiny. And a genuine pleasure just to sit beside and speak with, her voice, her smile is enough to warm the coldest or most shattered hearts, if only for a time, whilst one is there by her side, and carries her memory still in their mind (which I always have, and always will, even if, if I'm lucky enough that kelli still knows where to find her, and I'm lucky enough that she might consider giving me a chance to be hers)....shes kinda...well...a girl who is like a warm fire to a cold soul, you spend time in Laura's company and its like one's heart and soul are there warming their metaphorical hands besides a warm coal fire in a cozy chair in a nice comfy warm room:)
AFAIK she was single, last time I saw her, which is surprising in a ways, just considering how sweet, kind, funny (in a laughing with her, or laughing inside, just...just because Laura is Laura, and she is food for the soul, if that makes sense, a being on this earth that cannot help but bring joy to those lucky enough to be honoured with a moment of her time.
The song itself, is here: 'fields of the nephilim-'laura'
https://youtu.be/SueBR3UuMSo Love this song, have since I first heard it, partially for the personal reasons mentioned above, and because its got a real catchy riff to it too.

I have always loved Steve Earl. Kind of wore the wrong kind of hat in Nashville.
My hat did not work that well either. Mentioned this shit before!
Never got to work with him, but went fishin' out at Dan Seals place a few times.
Just watched the vid for the n'th to the tenth time. I always love the part when he is spreading the seeds in a head high tobacco crop. They rarely let it grow that tall anymore. They got to get it drying when it is about chest high.
I always wondered what the tobacco flowers would be like in my pipe.
I grow Nicotiana alata as an ornamental and I use it to grind up and spray for buggies, because it is quite poisonous to most creepy crawlers. Never had the guts to try smoking the amazingly aromatic flowers it makes at night.

What is it with you and messing up your speakers?
Are you going to keep the car? Most low end speakers are not worth buying, but good ones will require more power, so an amp as well.
Guessing, but do you crank it up? Maybe a whole re-do is in order.

I would avoid the commonly advertised brands like Kicker or Polk (unless you go for their top shelf models).
I would rather see a music junkie who turns it up go with a high power amplifier and some, Alpine, Infinity or JBL or even Polk if you get into the upper level offerings. The good Polk speakers are more pricey than JBL or Infinity, Compare them to Alpine.
Kicker does make a decent four channel amplifier, but the rest of the line is for crap other than music, like SPL competition or the simple status symbol of having an incredibly intrusive and annoying sound come out of your car like the kids do.
You know, the one note boom. Not musical.
-
Two of my former VW's (the best ones)...were Alpine which is what I'm considering. Truck I think is JBL, neighbor liked his music and had the factory speakers replaced a week after he bought it.
-
You can not go wrong tricking out your sound system with Alpine products.
As long as my factory stereo system in my Traverse hangs in there I will just let it. Often wish I had a real subwoofer, though. My factory installed Bose system uses a 6x9 sub. Sounds OK mostly, but I listen to some heavy stuff at times. More bass would feel better.

Been to wales myself MOSW, there are some great camping spots around. Nicest place I've been I think, was a camp site close to lake Bala, just winging it in a tent, brought some basics, I.e meat and things to cook it in, eggs, the stuff you can't easily just find, like bacon, and relied on a pre-breakfast hike up the mountains to go find the rest of a breakfast, coming back with a bag full of the freshest mushrooms going, straight from the hillside, hedgehog fungi, slippery jack boletes, larch boletes, oyster mushrooms fresh off the tree. SO much tastier than the often soggy oyster mushrooms from the shops.
All fried up, bacon, sausages, fried eggs and beans with whatever goodies could be scavenged. Works up right appetite, all the climbing and foraging for several hours. Guaranteed to make a simple meal like that taste like heaven :D

What was that song about?
-
What was that song about?
Definitely open to interpretation. I love good lyrics.
Now the pale morning sings of forgotten things
She plays a tune for those who wish to overlook
The fact that they've been blindly deceived
By those who preach and pray and teach
But she falls short and the night explodes in laughter
But don't you come here and say I didn't warn you
About the way your world can alter
And oh how you try to command it all still
Every single time it all shifts one way or the other
And I'm a goddamn coward, but then again so are you
And the lion's roar, the lion's roar
Has me evading and hollering for you
And I never really knew what to do
Well I guess sometimes I wish you were a little more predictable
That I could read you just like a book
For now I can only guess what's coming next
By examining your timid smile
And the ways of the old, old winds blowing you back 'round
And I'm a goddamn fool, but then again so are you
And the lion's roar, the lion's roar
Has me seeking out and searching for you
And I never really knew what to do
Sometimes I wish I could find my Rosemary Hill
I'd sit there and look at the deserted lakes and I'd sing
And every once in a while I'd sing a song for you
That would rise above the mountains and the stars and the sea
And if I wanted it to it would lead you back to me
And the lion's roar, the lion's roar
Is something that I have heard before
A children's tale, the lonesome wail of a lion's roar
-
If the lions roar is alluding to the MGM lion, then perhaps its about women's empowerment, and the how the movie industry encapsulates a greater struggle...and the unpredictable nature of this country (USA)... can't decide why the bird is buried. maybe it stands for liberation?
