The Beginning
It all started with Neurolands, a site made to help people on the autism spectrum get jobs. It was founded by Neuroman and McJagger with Tigerlily, Shima (hiroshima on Intensity) and hermit. They met on Wrong Planet in 2005-2006. Then one of the periodic WrongPlanet exoduses led to a huge influx of new members to the Neurolands forum and the original purpose of the forum getting swept away. Neuroman set up a system where members could request and start their own forums. Sophist's Gestalt was founded this way, and kevv729's Sockpuppet Television, and the original Intensity by McJagger, and Ramoth Harbor for Lucifer/Vivi.
There was drama over the original Intensity and whether it was too crass to be associated with a site meant to promote work opportunities for people on the spectrum. It was quite unique from other autism forums at the time in that it was meant as a place where people could learn to stand up for themselves ... or at least to fight the verbal fight. This allowed for abusive language and all sorts of posts that would've otherwise been moderated under standard forum rules. One of the posters there (said to be jman) actually made a thread asking others which Wrong Planet female members they would like to fuck. People complained. It's said that Lucifer was the one who spoke the loudest against Intensity as she didn't like the way the forum was being run.
Eventually, Intensity went down. Fortunately, McJagger managed to log in to the forum and access the admin panel only to realize that somebody/something had had the setting for disabling the forum checked. McJagger announced his findings on the Founders forum on Neurolands. However, the next time McJagger tried to access the admin panel, he couldn't anymore. Confusion arose. Accusations were made against a certain hacker group (that, for humor's sake, must not be named here) and even against a few members of Neurolands and Intensity. That said, it's still not clear what exactly happened that day. It also seems that Intensity went down a second time a while after it was set back up by Neuroman.
The events mentioned in the paragraph directly above may not chronologically be in the right order. Still working out the correct sequence.
Discussions about the fate of Intensity were made at a temporary forum someone had set up (Dunc's Drivel?). McJagger was ready to give up, and this was when it was suggested that he get his own hosting and have the site independent from Neurolands.
He did, and that was the beginning of Intensity Squared. He worked with Dunc of Dunc's Drivel - who incidentally used to work with Alex Plank at the very beginning of Wrong Planet (2004-2005?) before getting disgusted and leaving. Dunc was one of the first to have an issue with Alex as an administrator of Wrong Planet.
to be continued ...

That sounds about right.
We were labelled as the wrong side of the tracks.
It was meant to teach others to grow a thicker skin....to stand up for themselves.
Also, I had made the correlation between as ethers and the inability to communicate according to the niceties of regular folks....the status quo.
I thought it was wrong to moderate some people because of their inabilities to communicate a point according to others standards.
So, I created the premise of a free speech site where all people were welcome regardless of their shortcomings.
Yes, the idea of freedom in this capacity has it's shortcomings. That is why from the very beginning we encouraged people to justify their words. And for the community to moderate itself. Nearly anything goes.
The most important aspect, I felt, was communal responsibility.
-
Yeah. There's a thread here (http://www.intensitysquared.com/index.php/topic,18551.0.html) which goes into more detail, but this was the short version. :P
-
Auto correct changed aspbergers to as ethers.
Whoops. I rarely give a crap about simple things like grammar, appropriate words or sentence structure. But this correction took away from the entire meaning.
-
Ah, that project. I never forgot about it, but have tried to ignore it because it seems I was expected to do more than just compile. Maybe I should get back to it if people can put aside their own prejudices and just give me the hardcore facts for me to post.
-
You did fine
Currently I want to fuck you. And if you continued and fucked it up I may lose interest.
By the way, who are you?
-
Solomon Kane under the name of Manny Calavera if that makes sense.
If you really want to fuck me, make it gentle please and get it done with as quickly as you can.
...
Actually, just keep your hands off my hairy butt and my nipples and we'll be fine.
-
I pull hair.
Please tell me you have hair.
-
I pull hair.
Please tell me you have hair.
I have hair indeed and you're a dirty whore. Come to Papa, bitch.

i know the neurolands url, but it has expired anyway. does anyone remember the url to the old intensity so i can view it through the wayback machine?
-
I doubt you can find the original Intensity there. It wasn't up for long.
Pyraxis might know where to find it.
-
I think the archive is still there. I still own the site and never took away the archive from the servers. I am not sure which version it is, but I can look into putting it back up. I have a bit of a shortage of tech spoons right now, so if anyone wants to help I would accept it.
It's in php, a very old version.
ugh, it expired. give me a bit to get it up again.
it may take more than a while. I can get the data back by tomorrow - maybe. But I may not be able to get the domain name back. It may be going up for auction. :(
My bank sent me a new card and I had this on autopay on the old card. So far $109 to restore the hosting plan, but that means I could get the data back and host it somewhere else.
Might be time for the end of Neurolands...
-
What expired? :-\
-
Everything.
I got the hosting plan restored but the domain name went into something called monetization, which I think means someone else wants it. I might have to compete in an auction to get it back, which means I will lose it because I am poor. I think I can still get the data though - they have opened a ticket to restore it.
If the data is on their servers and I have access to that I don't need the domain name to get it, correct? I can just download it off the servers.
it sucks getting sick. that's why i wasn't paying attention.
-
No, you don't need the domain. Back up the SQL database and download that. It should be easy enough.
-
ok, if it costs too much then i will let nlands go, but i will get the data and host it under another name. hopefully this won't take longer than a few days to a week.
-
The data is what's important. But the original Intensity only for historical reasons, I think.
-
current plan is to abandon the name - some company seems to have bought it. it's a registry site, but they are talking $99 or more to get it back, or let it go to auction and hope no one else wants it.
i suspect that people who go looking for nlands will come here or go to WP. at least there is a history here.
dunno why i never sent you a copy of the archive. i will as soon as i can get my hands on it. i had it backed up on one computer that died (hard drive crash) and the second one that got the archive also died (fried CPU). Not even sure if it's there or on another one that died. so if worst comes to worst, i could try ti get it off the hard drive of the second one.
-
I could set it up as a read-only archive here, if that's OK with everyone involved. :)
-
I Gareth Nelson The Overlord want my cut. :squiddy:
-
You (since I'm the overlord too) already got it. :smarty:
-
:apondering:

-
Doesn't McJagger also have an archive of Intensity?
-
No, AFAIK.
-
Doesn't McJagger also have an archive of Intensity?
I have nothing but fond memories of good times.

Welcome back.

Good 2 Know.
I, Anton Alfonso von Cartman, the man you love to hate, have become the most notorious aspie on the internet. Banned from AFF some 6 years ago, returned briefly with my Tong_Duurai sock but got bored and stopped posting.......Banned repeatedly from WrongPlanet(6 times total), and so I found my way back here. There's pretty no fucking way you will Ever see the last of me here. Or on WP. I'm untrollable and that makes people butthurt as hell. :evillaugh:
FYI: I am also a notorious troll on the Okcupid forums (http://www.okcupid.com/forum) and despite 18 bans I still persist!
-
You are not infamous or hated. You are not even a footnote..

Welcome back, McJ. How's life?

Why the hell would you troll a dating site?
I don't see what could be gained by pissing off single women.

A lot of those bitchez aren't single. The forum peeps are attention whores looking to be adulated. :lol1:

Are you like 10 years old or something? You sound like someone who hasn't developed proper vocabulary yet because he hasn't gone far in school and lacks experience.
-
Still working on it. All hell broke loose in another part of my life pretty much simultaneously with this - hope to have that resolved by Friday and then back to work on the archive. It hasn't shown up yet so I assume the hosting company is still looking for it. It may be on a CD somewhere in here as well but that might be harder to find (classic Asperger's, :-\ ).
No word on getting the domain back either.

Don't worry about it right now, then. There are far more important things in life than this.

It is not a big one mate in the real scheme of things. You have my PM and the offer stands.

Relax, there's no need to resolve this situation immediately if you have more important things to do, and from the looks of things, the person who requested this was a troll anyway.

I dunno? I think he means Calavera. If he does, he is wrong, but then he is new, and importantly, regardless of the troll thing, he is right. Wolfish needs the hassle of this at the moment like he needs a boot to the testicles

I was speaking of Marx. He was the first to bring up Neurolands.

Speaking of yourself now?
I was wondering how long it would take.

That was one possibility, the other goes without saying.
-
Calavera should take this back up.
-
I heard from the company that is monetizing nlands - apparently that means they offer it to people for vastly more than I paid for it. I had a lot of domains registered that I let go (for example, wrongplanettruth.com) and I have been getting emails from companies saying they think I have an interest and would I like to buy the name for (varying amounts of money).
Unfortunately the shit is about to hit the fan within the next couple of days in other places in my life so I don't feel like I can respond. In fact, I just feel sick. I asked pk to help but she is at a conference with limited contact.
going to hide under my blanket (its 7C in Florida tonight) until the phone rings or doesn't ring...

Calavera should take this back up.
It isn't as easy as I had thought.

They still haven't got the archive back up. Not sure what is going on, but I guess I will have to call again.
-
Yeah, I'm still getting the monetizing crap when I go to neurolands.com. Hey Al, did they give any date of when the domain would be transferred back?
-
No mate.but between Easter and what have you I am not surprised. If no go by next week I will them another call and it will not be a friendly one

Oh. Duh. Easter. Yeah, point taken.

Oh. Duh. Easter. Yeah, point taken.
Called them up. They have a work ticket open and it is work in progress. Poor things got all flustered and apologetic. I wasn't even that bad.
-
 :headbang2:
Glad they're on it.
-
So was the archive of the original Intensity ever retrieved??
-
I don't believe so.
-
.. and now it's gone forever. :'(

:'(
If I ever find some backup I didn't know existed, I will let you all know.

I haven't posted on an AS message board in years. My old UK haunt Aspie Village is dead, WP has too many bad memories, I even looked at the Reddit AS sub but got bored

It's good to see you, Tom. :)

Yes, welcome back!

thanks pals.

Still miss you every day, Nman.
