I'm a cage pilot who doesn't like speed limits, does that count??

I live a pretty safe life at the moment. Not even the local chavs bother me much.

Anyone like riding hard here?

I used to.

After a few crashes an countless near misses, I hung it up.  Not afraid of dying......afraid of living permanently disabled unable to care for myself.

So now, like screap, I'm a cage pilot who doesn't like speed limits and also likes twisty roads.

I live a pretty safe life too.  I think the most dangerous thing I do is riding back and forth to school with my daughter every day.

Good point, but I was mainly thinking of the distance we travel every day, since the school is more than an hour away from home, and the possibility of us getting into an accident on the highway.

I haven't got a deathwish, so I generally try and stay away from that shit. People who take drugs for the hell of it, or hoon around showing off and people who do all these fucked up stunts are asking for a one way ticket to kingdom come. In the grand scheme of things, they are probably the failures that were meant to be erased in the first place.

Some interesting comments but the most was from Steve-o. It seems in one sense you're for 'reckless and dangerous fun' by your profile depiction of the star from 'Jackass', and then say something which completely contradicts that. I don't know how risk taking is meant to eradicate invalids from the gene pool, more likely that it just occurs, being a risk to begin with and all.

See, I like watching the show AND laughing at them, because A) I know it isn't me getting hurt; and B) they are getting paid and they have insurance. The reckless ones doing it for the lulz are the ones that seriously need help, and the druggie trying to kill themselves through their habit are also the ones to watch out for.

You can have fucn watching dickheads be dickheads without yourself being a dickhead in the process.

So it's no less stupid to risk life and limb when you have health insurance, and are being paid?

If you're doing it specificially for the money, I don't see the problem. Just once you've a high pain tolerance. They're just glorified stuntmen, really.

I don't see how an unglorified stuntman is a bozo while a glorified one is entirely legit, and his or her actions acceptable/understandable; Essentially, they're identical behaviours.

Who said normal stuntmen were not legit? You've basically reworded what I said - they're glorified stuntmen, ie. they do the same thing.

I suppose Steve-o did  :duh: It's my opinion that the rewards for risk taking don't reflect on the action. If we criticise the motive by saying there's nothing gained from stupid, dangerous acts and therefore the person is stupid, yet say a person who does the same things and makes money/fame from that is not a stupid person, and by extension those same acts aren't stupid... Then all it seems like is being said is that a person unsuccessful in fame and fortune is stupid.
Whereas, I've met stupid people who are successful financially, and brilliant ones who aren't considered successful by those set of standards.

That is NOT what I said at all. And at thiis moment I can't be bothered correcting you.

The bottom line was that you approve of recklessly dangerous activities, as long as there is money being made, and the entertained give them fame.

PS. I don't think it's really laziness; when you disagree with my interpretation and then follow up to say you're going to be lazy, and not elaborate? It would have been better to restate your view, wouldn't it?

Love that bug D

I can see all points of view with regards to this topic, but my man does all this stuff on his dirt bike. He has broken numerous bones and slammed in to tress and flown off cliffs and so on. He does not have a "fear on" button, and too be honest, I have always found it intriguing, despite the fact that it scares the shit out of me. It is probably the reason why I love him so much. he is the anti-thesis of me.

Testosterone plays a large part in the ability to take risks, as well as personality. Where would we be in our understanding of the world if we did not have people who took risks? Adventurers, explorers, astronauts, pilots and so on. I mean, I think jumping out of a plane even with a parachute is madness, but it is a calculated risk generally. The person doing it has some understanding of the risk, but calculated risk does not change the world or educate us. It is the mad people who say "Fuck physics!" that actually achieve something, even if they die in the process. I am not talking about Jackass or even my fiance. Him flying off cliffs does not change our perception of the world, BUT, he has this innate desire to test limits and explore places people fear to tread. If he dies doing something he loves and cannot live without, then who am I to stop him? I would not want him to ask that of me.

He has exercised more common sense since becoming a step father, but there is still this fire that burns bright within him. It makes him feel.......free. And freedom is what we are all looking for, no matter in what guise it presents itself.

I ride a push bike. Probably more dangerous - higher centre of gravity, no leathers, inferior helmet, shitty lights for night riding.

I'm doing the death tango everyday.

I logged in for the first time in months last night. By the way, I've been laid up with a broko' since I crashed my motorbike. I get the plaster removed in a week - two weeks early. And to everyone who gives a fuck, the bike's okay.

Just a broken ankle. It's more inconvenient than anything else. Sort of helped with getting the bike repairs done, since it wasn't like I was able to ride in the meantime. Getting the plaster removed on the 9th, couple of weeks early. It's a 93' GSXR 750. Here's a pic (http://i.ebayimg.com/02/!B3qwvf!CWk~$%28KGrHqEOKnIE%29399ZHleBMnEHfvCmg~~_35.JPG) (before)

I hope it's going to be OK.  It's good that you seem to be healing so well that you can have the cast removed two weeks early.

I sprained my ankle about 20 months ago and have had a lot of problems with it.  I had to have surgery on it last December to repair the ATFL which had still not healed by then and also to dig out the necrotic bone in my talus and microfracture it with a tiny hammer and awl.  It wasn't fun at all.

Yeah, it was all about what I could afford at the time. I was looking at Ducatti 595i, 1000cc (very nice) for $6000. The shops finance company wouldn't loan me 3 grand- so I ended up buying the gixxer, which is decent, just no 595  :headbang2:

Thanks, I'm getting there. I came close to having a bone in my wrist rebroken, cast, and set because the bone became cystuous, and I'd already had a six week, and two twelve week long terms with a plaster cast. They gave me one more 6 week one after that and they gave me the option of having the procedure, I said stuff it, I'll see how it goes.

I'll be back on my wheels, and feet in a week. Suffer the boredom until then.

I haven't ridin any but from what I can tell they're slick because they're in line 3 cylinders make the bike appear much smaller than 1000cc's and from what I hear, have deadly power delivery.

Haven't been on a motorcycle since I was less than 2.  A car pushed my dad and the motorcycle between a light pole and signal light pole.  The motorcycle was ruined, Dad spent a week in the hospital with a sand bag on his stomach to control the bleeding (1950's folks).  He got another motorcycle, but Mom forbade him to put me on a motorcycle again.

I think your Mum was right to say that. They're an unnecessary risk. If I had kids of my own . . . hmm, I'd probably still put them on the back - but I wouldn't allow it that often. Beside that, I like riding on my own.
