hi. yeah I'm on AV but haven't been there long.
to be honest it seemed to me like all the accusations of dark side stuff were a bit OTT, but i don't really know the background. there do seem to be quite a few goths here though.
"invasion" didn't seem *that* bad to me and some overreacted a bit. but I also think you might've got the wrong idea about that place a bit.
So how is everyone?

From reading the things that I could see that you posted on AV that were cross posted here, I think you have a lot more sense than many of the other AV members. I get the idea that some of them must be xenophobic against Americans, so they made the whole board inaccessible to us. I know you don't have anything to do with that decision, but I think it is lame.

Thanks callaway - well i don't think it's xenophobia really - I think the intention was just to keep it a fairly small site that wasn't as busy as some of the other international ones - and since I get the impression recognition of AS in britain seems behind the US in many respects there are less people aware of it, so there might be different issues that need discussing. It's like a small quiet village pub instead of a big mega-bar I suppose.
But it is a bit annoying for me as it means i can't access from work since my work internet access comes via US routers

not my impression. i asked my psychologist about it and he said "no, it won't be that - that's a thing that's diagnosed in children i think. someone would've diagnosed you by now".
I asked if it would have been known back when i was a child, and he said "yeah - you weren't exactly born in the 50's."
Next week he came back and said he'd found out that it could sometimes get diagnosed in adulthood, but he didn't think i had it.
Also, I'd been to another (nhs) psychiatrist once, before i'd heard of AS, thinking i might have ADHD. He told me that condition had been made up by pharmaceutical companies to sell drugs.
There are places with better understandings than that I think, but it seems to vary around location, doctor, private/nhs.
I'm self dx-ed by the way, but am pretty sure of it, having met and compared experiences with several diagnosed aspies. Can't really see the point for met to get a professional dx now

What is your tolerance for adult content, conflict, and generally offensive material and conversation? (Pretty much everybody considered the rape thread in bad taste, but i think we've talked about equally "evil" topics, at least unseriously, with no qualms.)

I got diagnosed without any difficulty, but then they tried me on antidepressants, which just messed me up. Vallium would have been more appropriate, given that I was very anxious at the time from years of stress at school and university, and was having violent nightmares and stuff. Recently, a psychologist I saw through the jobcentre identified dyslexia and ADD as problems, so I'm going back to the psychiatrist in a couple of weeks to see about getting something for the ADD.

i started watching the power of nightmares and i find it kinda iffy.
i don't know if i can sit through three hours of a doc, that uses two people as origins who are hardly that well connected or documented themselves.
it seems like pure fantasy.
though the premise is believable.

It does seem a bit OTT in places and sounds like a bit of conspiracy theory in parts, and yeah, it is a bit long, but I think it raises a lot of interesting points about the way politicians can use fear of enemies and exaggerate the threat for their own agenda.
in one part, listening to recordings of rumsfeld talking about communist threats in *exactly* the same way as he's talked about "the war on terror" is pretty unsettling.

america, has always used a common enemy to rally the population through patriotism. since, they really can't make the peoples support be compulsory. they have always decised ways of making people fall in line without the gun to the head tactic..

there does seem to be too much worrying about if someone else might be offended - never quite sure if anyone actually is offended, but people will still protect them by shutting down threads etc.
