Who did you vote for?
Or who would you vote for, if you were american?
Obviously I would have voted for Obama, because I'm not a fucking cunt :2thumbsup:
-
It's wrong to vote. It's wrong that there are governments and people ruling other adult people :thumbdn:
-
I just got back from voting. My vote for president matters little due to the fact I live in Connecticut which Obama will easily win so I did my best to get the vote out for a third party candidate and voted for Libertarian Gary Johnson
-
I voted before work, :cbc: for Obama and the other Democrats running for office.
-
If I were in the US I'd be voting for Obama.

Jury duty's OK. You could end up on Court TV, working on the Trial of the Century! :headbang2:
-
Weeble nobody like jury duty and the guys that force you to go can't figure out that paying a fellow a few dollars an hour to listen about how some yap got in trouble with the law isnt worth it.

I was called twice and dismissed early both times. :orly:

I had to call for a entire goddamn week to the courthouse to see if they needed me, I mean it was a complete waste of time. I'll tell you one thing those bitches in the courtroom arent making a few bucks an hour, :toporly:

If I were American I would vote for Obama. I don't know anyone who would vote for Romney.
Richard, you should vote, they all count.

One of our young workers voted today for the first time, and seemed happy about it. :)

Richard, you should vote, they all count.
Well, I just couldnt be botherd. Also I think wich ever way the country goes for every smart person there are tons more dumb people. Also I think those guys are convinced if you vote they think you care about the "process" thus calling you in for jury duty

All governments are wrong. To say that Obama is better is just to say that melanoma is better than leukemia.

ANARCHISTISCHE INTERNATIONALE
Verdammt! Wach auf, du Hammelherde
die immer noch im Dreck du liegst!
Trag Aufruhr um die ganze Erde
bevor du in die Luft mit fliegst!
Zur Hölle mit den Bürokraten!
Zum Teufel mit dem Militär!
Die sollen im Atompark braten:
Vorwärts, Genossen ans Gewehr!
Völker, auf zur Randale!
Weg mit Gott, Staat und Geld!
Die Internationale
kämpft für die freie Welt!
Es hilft Euch weder Pfaff, noch Bonze
kein Gott, kein Kanzler, Präsident
und was da sonst noch steht in Bronze:
es stürzt, wenn Ihr nicht länger pennt!
Hohles Gequatsche: Menschenrechte!

Yeah, but if you have to vote between the two, you'll vote melanoma.
Hooray for 4 more years of melanoma!!!!

It's wrong to vote. It's wrong that there are governments and people ruling other adult people :thumbdn:
Other adults will rule you whether you choose to have a say in who they are or not. I would rather have a say.

And why is it so? Because 99.99% accept it. The bastards in charge are no gods or supermen, they are just psychopaths with great firepower, which they also have because the majority once accepted to be oppressed. 200 years ago the American people could simply have gotten rid of their oppressors. It could have happened in Europe too but longer back in time. But people accepted oppression.

Yup. And it won't ever change. The world exists as the majority chooses for it to exist. If you are the 0.01%, you can either rail against the system in a pointless fashion (I'm sure this feels good, but don't see it ever accomplishing anything), or you participate in the system and thereby work towards making it represent you as best you can. Or you go live in a small shack in the woods and write a manifesto ;)
-
Living in a small shack and writing a manifesto is :viking:
-
One note: it's not that most people like the current system. In fact, most people hate it. Most people don't have any visions of anything better, though, because they think small.

Indeed it is :viking:

That's an old myth that needs to die. Selecting potential jurors solely from voting records has been declared unconstitutional pretty much everywhere. Names are received from voter rolls, driver licenses/ID registries, and other public records. Drawing from voter rolls in the past meant that otherwise that a jury would not include minorities.
-

Voting is now a responsibility yeah. But it is also a right. People shouldn't forget that, as I'm pretty sure we'd (most of us lol) be up in arms about it if that right was taken for away. It;s easy to take for granted now.
-
One note: it's not that most people like the current system. In fact, most people hate it.
I'm not sure that is demonstrably true.
-

I'm not sure that is demonstrably true.
They don't like it, but they don't have imagination enough to understand that it's possible to do without it.
Take society back at about 1800 and earlier. Most people were farmers living on what they produced on their own land. What good could authorities be for them? Nothing. People just had to pay taxes and go to wars for the psychopaths in charge.
The thing is that the system is fundamentally still the same, but since there are things like "democracy", "social benefits" etc, people believe or fool themselves to believe that this system is to their benefit. It's not.

I think that people WERE wanting a more organized system though. The electoral college in the US was developed in 1787 and although it seems ridiculous now (that electoral vote trumps popular vote, we don't have that in Canada) it was put in place to appease the needs of all parties.
I don't know. Politics is a confusing thing but I'm glad I have to right to vote, it's something I exercise at every given possible chance and I'm thankful I don't live in a country where I should be fearing death just to go to a polling station.
-
But why would a farmer who could live on what he harvested need a political system or authorities at all?
-
But why would a farmer who could live on what he harvested need a political system or authorities at all?
But not everyone were farmers. What about business owners? In every society, no matter what time period, there is a hierarchy that develops. That's human nature. I think if a hierarchy were to go unmoderated in some capacity, you'd have mass chaos.
-
Why do you need authorities to do business? Why do you need a hierarchy among adult people by their sound minds? This thinking is the Catch-22 that keeps this system existing.
-
Why do you need authorities to do business? Why do you need a hierarchy among adult people by their sound minds? This thinking is the Catch-22 that keeps this system existing.
I'm saying that it is something that people have consistently put in place themselves for thousands of years. I don't think it's something that people seek out to put into place, I think it naturally develops on its own. There are people that are born leaders. It's a talent they have and they feel propelled to use it. Just as there are people who have zero desire to hold that role and naturally shy away from it. I think hierarchy develops on its own. How can one fight human nature?
-
If that is human nature, how come countries and societies must be held together by violence or threats of violence?
Those in top positions are usually psychopaths, while those with no desire for power are not. Is it "human nature" to be ruled by psychopaths?
-

I absolutely agree that it appears as if societies must be held together by violence and it's not something I can even begin to explain because I don't understand it myself. But it seems to exist at the roots of every society.
I don't agree that all people in top positions are psychopaths, but I can certainly think of several. There are people with a commanding authority that seem to climb to the top and those that willingly follow them. But just as I don't believe all people in a place of authority are psychopaths, I also don't believe that all people that support them are blind followers. I do think it takes a great deal of ego to feel one has the chutzpah to lead a nation.
-
But why would a farmer who could live on what he harvested need a political system or authorities at all?
Because that doesn't exist anymore. Farmers need things like water pumped to their fields, electricity for their homes, gasoline for their tractors, fertilizers and seeds. They don't make their own clothes or shoes. They have to participate in society, and society needs rules in order to keep the weak from preying on the strong.
Even the Amish have society.
-
But I speak of the era 1800 and back in time. They had no use for a government back then, which shows that the government forced itself upon people and wasn't something that people gave their consent to.
-

Yeah, I don't follow your logic at all. My country was a democracy in 1800, and people voting are giving their explicit consent.
-
No, it wasn't. It was (for middle and upper class white people) less bad, but that's all.
You should really listen to what they say in that Spooner link.

We don't live in the same state. The ....... you know what? I was about to go into an explanation of the electoral college, and how there are a few more members to local, state, and national government than just the president, but then I remembered who I am talking to. Go look at your shiny rocks and masturbate some more. Leave the country's governance to the grown ups.

I don't know how I missed that point. In a world without government the spazzes would have all been killed young. Don't contribute, can't pull their own weight, act weird and "possessed" sometimes.

They arent shiny. its Diffraction of light, called iridescents. masturbating defintly is alot more intresting then voting thats for shure. I can tell by your attention to detail you must know the ins and outs of each issue on the ballot

Humans are often violent.
You often see this kind of behaviour in other animals. Alpha males would attack other mates for the females and such, and in turn creates a hierarchy.

In a Neanderthal society maybe. I see it the other way around: if it weren't for this kind of society, if wouldn't be marginalized. I happen to be on disability, but most males in my family have or have had Aspergers, although undiagnosed. Some of them have actually killed themselves, but most of them have managed to survive good, including the eldest ones I have met, who were born in the 19th Century and lived in the Swedish countryside for the most part.

I can see why they would prefer to do so. I've always said that if I could, I'd move out to the countryside in a heartbeat and live mostly off my own land. I've not completely written that possibility off but it's at least another 6 years away if it's going to become a reality.

All these questions. the time, the time!! where has it gone, op I'm out of time. see you next time

You don't seem to grasp the width of how wrong this system is. If you have read "1984", you know that they pretend to wage war only to destroy things so that the working masses have to work harder to be kept in check.
Now this isn't a fantasy by George Orwell but is actually reality in 2012. Robots and computers could do 90-95% of all work already, so why don't they? Why do people have to work? To keep them in check, so that the psychopaths in charge can still have their power. If people didn't have to work, the hierarchy would break down. People could use all their free time to demand their rights. That mustn't happen, so people must be kept wage slaves.
That is also the reason why we have the immigration to the western world: to destroy the social security system and divide and conquer.
-
FFS, we've all read 1984. I am sick to death of people referencing 1984 when talking about today's society. Yes, there are parallels. No, it is not the same thing. Lit, I agree with a lot of what you are saying. I don't think the world is great either. I don't like the system either. But your alternative is unrealistic and your view is too extreme.

Voting is the most overrated part of democracy. Cuba, North Korea, and Iran have elections, but that doesn't mean that they are free.

My dad also always repairs the cars. That's one of his Aspie special interests.

Pah, my granddad had all licences, from the moment licences were needed, and, he had them till his dying day. AT age 86, he still was the best driver in the family. And, he would still be guilty of speeding now and then, at that age.
(the day after he died, they expired, true story. )
-
Great granddad was actually one of the first persons to have a license in Sweden, already in 1916. He also had licenses for all vehicles. He was also a tram driver in Göteborg until he retired at 67 8)

I see a lot of people who don't work and spend their time demanding their rights. The problem is that they demand them to the internet and nobody pays any attention.

Well, I don't care. The idiots that obviously don't value their freedom have to pay for my living with their taxes that way.

Our primitive ancestors busted their asses hunting and gathering.
It has always been thus. :orly:

Lit, I agree with a lot of what you are saying. I don't think the world is great either. I don't like the system either. But your alternative is unrealistic and your view is too extreme.
But, Adam, 1984 was written by god as a metaphor to predict the End Times and must be taken as a holy text! Nonbelievers will have rats attached to their faces!!!

Seriously speaking: today's society is like a synthesis between 1984 and Brave New World.
