Title: Baseball topic
Post by: Jesse on July 29, 2013, 09:06:17 PM
A some of you may know, I am a huge Ichiro Suzuki fan. He is closing in on 4,000 total hits for both his Japan and American careers combined. (He is 16 hits away) and his American totals would bring him to 2,706 with the magical 3,000 hits within reach.

So who are you favorite players? teams? think baseball sucks?
I mostley follow individual players and their stats, and not really into teams.

But scandals are a different story. I enjoy a good baseball scandal as much as the next guy, Alex rodriguez looks like (because of his pride) the commissioner is going to have to give him a lifetime ban.  :evillaugh: He could accept a ban for the rest of this year and admitting his involvement with laboratories, and save face but he has to much pride. He will deny, deny, and deny some more until no other option is left. Also, this would be the perfect poster boy for the commisoner to ban. Huge name, dramatic effect. I hope hes banned for good!

Sorry man, I may seem like a sports kind of guy but unless I am playing I don't really have an interest.

It's interesting that you root for the Yankees. Is it just because of Ichiro, or is that your team?

With all that's going on with the Yankees, I'd be surprised if they even mention Ichiro.

Oh no, I don't like the Yankees at all. just Ichiro, when he was in Seattle I didn't like the mariners either
I just want to see him get to 3,000 hits so bad in America because I know he can do it.

Nobody thought this guy could play in MLB at all. and now look at him, :blonde:

I'm a Cubs fan... (Yet I follow the Royals and Athletics when I have the chance...) I know they're not doing as well as people hoped... but this is a change to turn things around. Last time I checked Cubs have 5 prospects in the top 100.

Not exactly current, but some of Bill "Spaceman" Lee's quotes made me laugh.

And the fact that he still plays occasionally, at 66, is pretty cool :headbang2:

Mike Schmidt had a nice package. I couldn't help but stare at it
George Brett was also one of my favorites,

The Dodgers. The Giants. The Angels.

Equally the same in my view, don't really like one over the other

I've never told this story but it's kinda interesting.

When we lived in Nebraska, my parents church scored some group discount tickets for a weekend getaway to Kansas City. Included in the package was 2 nights at the Marriott Hotel and tickets to the amusement park Worlds of Fun and also tickets to see the Kansas City Royals. So we drove down Friday evening, spent the night at the hotel and went to Worlds of Fun Saturday morning. Sunday morning, we had a church service in a convention room in the hotel, then we left to see the Royals game.

This was my first MLB game that I had been to and was pretty excited to see George Brett play in his prime (this was the early 80's). Before the game started, they had an MC/announcer who did pre-game announcements while standing on home plate. We were sitting close enough that I got a good look at him (actually got pretty good seats in right field just up from 1st base). So anyways, after a few innings I had to go pee so my dad and I got up to go to the restrooms. There was a short line for the restrooms so we waited in the hallway for a minute or so. While we were standing there, I recognized the MC who was doing the announcements from home plate standing in the hallway talking to a couple of people. So my dad and I walk into the restroom, find some open stalls and start to pee. After a couple of seconds, in walks the MC and walks up to the stall to my left. Being a dumb kid, I just start to chit-chat with the guy and when we got done my dad came over and chatted with him too. After about a minute we parted ways and I never saw that guy in person again.

Years later I was watching a program about a prominent radio talk show host and they talked about his early career working as a PR guy for the Kansas City Royals. That talk show host was...    Rush Limbaugh.

That reminds me of the second piece of advice that John Wayne gave Michael Caine about being a Hollywood movie star.

The first was "talk low, talk slow, don't say too much".

The second was "don't wear suede shoes.... because you'll be standing there taking a pee and the guy next to you is gonna turn around and say "hey, aren't you _________".

I am a huge Ichiro Suzuki fan.

I didn't know Ichiro has a last name. I thought he's like Cher.  :lol1:

The thing was, Rush Limbaugh wasn't famous yet. This was in the early 80's before his radio career.

I know Cher has a last name, but I've never heard of anyone refer to her that way, and I've only ever heard Ichiro. For a long time I assumed it's his last name. I can't think of any other men who have had their first name as a mononym.  :dunno:

One of the guys I work with every day only has one name.

For demonstration's sake let's say his name is "Indigo". Some of the tools we use require a first and last name, so he has to enter his name in both the first name and last name fields. So he comes up as "Indigo Indigo" on conference calls when his name is actually just "Indigo".

The conference call tool actually creates an icon for each attendee and his icon is a circle with II in the middle. It looks like a pause button.

Nah. Galileo was actually Galileo Galilei and known first and foremost by that name, and Dante was actually Dante Alieghri, which I believe might have been short for something.

Bezzboll been veddy, veddy, goot to me.

I used to love playing baseball. I even enjoyed a number of games with my dad. In my early thirties I coached a women's softball team, to great result.

These days. it is just more sport things hardly worth watching.
