I have to say this, but most of y'all seem to have
things together a hell of a lot better than many
over at WP. The mutual sobbing to one another
was making me feel like it was okay that I'm such
a fuck-up. I just hope that I can hold onto some
degree of trying, and not get caught up in even
more self-pity than I manage on my own.
-

does this mean that you feel that over at WP they are encouraging of self pitty and enabling of you to wallow in your own self pity.
-
I don't know. It definitely was hurting me to see so
many people in even worse position than I'm in, and
to feel so helpless to get them out of really trapped
conditions. Moreover, I seemed to have been slipping
into that mode of self-pity through empathizing too
much. Not that I'm not often that way anyhow, but
it wasn't helping me pull out of my funk.
Not sure I've got it licked, but at least seeing that
the majority of y'all seem to be supporting yourselves
helps tell me that my desires to just hide from the
world are NOT alright. My wife catered to those
desires, until they broke her emotionally, and much
as the outside world seems a living hell to me, I
probably have to learn to deal with it someday.
-
:o McJ, we are still fulfilling our original purpose.
-
What, to attract spammy little birds and give them
a kick in the ass?
-
Theoretically this place was founded as a training ground for empowerment as well as well as a place to hash out the conflicts from other boards. I'd been watching it disintegrate into a pub (there are plenty of threads debating it if you check the archives) but it's still good to see shit like this on occasion.
-
The thing is, it's nothing anyone's really done.
I like the bawdy pointless atmosphere.
It's just nice the overwhelming
number of kids over at WP
I think. I was pretty
damned fucked
at that age,
but it's bad
for me to
see that
as ok.
-
And that really is the point, and why some of us have been so determined not to allow tolerance of excessive wallowing and emoness to creep in here. Thats not what we're about. Yay for pointlessness! :green:
-
How the hell do you prevent it?
I mean, other than just by being
mean?
-
How the hell do you prevent it?
I mean, other than just by being
mean?
Being mean is pretty much it. At least if you ask our recruiting chairman and his cronies.
-
I knew that I couldn't just get away with whining, but I don't know that I much do
that anyhow. The biggest thing for me is just seeing that most of you have real
lives, I guess. I spent so many years hiding from the thought of it, and it still
terrifies me, but there just doesn't seem a way around it.

You write in that funny pattern on purpose?
Yeah, I can say "I have a life" too, but I don't to the average person out there in the world. But it's my life, it's almost how I want it.
I spent so many years hiding from the thought of it, and it still
terrifies me, but there just doesn't seem a way around it.
There's also bits and pieces I'm still hiding from as well.
Just don't try and change everything all at once. It leads to overload. I've had experience with that.
-
How the hell do you prevent it?
I mean, other than just by being
mean?
i really don't consider our actions as being mean spirited.
most offensive statement seem to be in jest.
and the rest of it is just working it out.
what i mean is that we don't bite our tongues. and we don't necessarily go for the throat. we just speak our minds. i feel that is quite therapeutic.
-
How the hell do you prevent it? I mean, other than just by being mean?
Indifference works just as well as meanness. I would say better.
Actually, I'm not entirely sure. Even a year after founding, there's still group momentum of a sort.

Now you know my frustration with Aspie_for_the_Lord.
He was miserable because his church told him he couldn't marry outside of it and he didn't have the good sense to leave it.
He couldn't see past the fact that it was he who made the descision to stay there. He thought that "God" had told him to be in that church.
Fucking delusional people!!!
-
what about drug addicts who take drugs and have delusions? are they choosing to stay in their delusions or are they addicted? or both?
-
Hi Milla. Both, I think.
-
hi Callaway
-
what about drug addicts who take drugs and have delusions? are they choosing to stay in their delusions or are they addicted? or both?
What's up Pastafarian Sistah!!! :fsm:
To answer your question, they're mostly chosing their own delusions because no-one forced the to take the drugs for the first few times.
We all have to be held accountable for what we do to ourselves and that includes allowing yourself to become addicted.
-
yeah i guess so.
religion is an addiction too. so if you're a pastafarian does that mean you're addicted to pasta? :P i'm trying not to eat pasta cuz it's so addictive and makes me feel crummy.
oops i hope that wasn't blasphemy. :P

You write in that funny pattern on purpose?
No, it just happens accidentally. Of course it's on purpose.
No real meaning, I just like shaping text sometimes.
Just don't try and change everything all at once. It leads to overload. I've had experience with that.
Not everything, but the shifts are like night and day for me. One of the
reasons that I suspect I'm bi-polar. Don't want to take drugs for it, because
I'm afraid I'll lose something important.
I agree that his whining is ridiculous. BUT, I think he should have every right
to his delusions. I just wish that he's accept it all as some sort of sign that
he's not meant to have a relationship with either his church or a human
woman, and get it over with. Then, whatever happened he'd be satisfied.
I'm torn whether I want to follow the real world (which all my feelings say
not to) or carve out my own. Either way though, I won't get anywhere
if I just stand in indecision. So, for now, I'm taking steps to keep from
screwing my supposedly real existence, and the energy that I'm getting
off of working is actually making it easier to move in other directions, if
I so choose. Wallowing in self-pity doesn't do any good, but sometimes
it's hard for me to pull out of these funks.
-
I don't want to insult all of the depressive people who like to wallow in misery because they certainly don't need any help in feeling terrible.
Plus I think there is a time, place, and purpose for wallowing in your own misery. To disregard your tradegies isn't exactly healthy, to turn away from them and act like they are nothing. To spend every waking moment lamenting them isn't healthy either. Once again, moderation.
Personally I do not feel a significant benefit from watching others recount how terrible their lives are, and how miserable they are. At least not all the time. At some times seeing that is depressing and other times it is encouraging. Example: "Oh how terrible the world is to see so much suffering," or "at least my life isn't that fucked up."
I don't hang out on WP simply because I like the freedom to use the word fuck occasionally without some people shutting their minds to me or having the mods come down on me.
But I certainly didn't like the heavy misery loves company atmosphere over there. It is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.
I will be amazed, but not displeased if we actually did manage to apply a thicker skin to some people, because as things stand it seems like if that happens it will be a total accident. But if it works...

True. Something a lot of people just shy away from.

I don't really get much out of this. I do get a kick out of trying to
help people there though.

Seems to get USED in a lot of posts. It's automatically censored out now, and I haven't seen much
in the way of complaining since that started.
-
It is the concept that people are willing to shut their minds to someone who swears which bothers me. What a petty consideration. There are people, who essentially, will ignore you if you explain the cure to cancer by opening with, "I've discovered the fucking cure to cancer!"

Fucking's the cure to cancer? I heard it was oral sex.

No, it just happens accidentally. Of course it's on purpose.
Oh, I thought it was because you had a different shaped screen. Uh huh.
-
I like things all cramped up in little spaces.
-
Its a viscious cycle.
If you are feeling like a victim, then going onto WP ( for example) and reading all
the other posts from people who are also victims does nobody any good.
You may feel less alienated because you realise there are other people also feeling
shit for similar reason. But what good is that ?
They just end up re-affirming the fact that they are victims.
-
There is also the big NT / AS divide in there.
Like every behaviour they have is to do with AS.
If people give them shit, it is because they are NTs.
It's a load of bollocks.
Don't get me wrong, i am a misanthropist.
Stick me in a room full of NTs and i am not going to be happy.
They could be nice people, but it's not going to happen. Not their fault.
Stick me in a room full of Aspies.
I'm not going to have a room full of new friends and start playing twister.
-
Not even naked Twister?
-
Well i would have to see the line up.

-
Well, men and women are different.
It would be stupid to deny this fact.
I dunno what makes you ask such a thing.
I have been acused of being sexist before.
But i don't think so.
-
i am.
it's just that i wanted to check your degree of PC.
and i see how you fumbled through a direct question, well....

I got a certain positive feeling at trying to help some of the people there.
But it was really draining. I pretty much leave the more capable people
alone - I figure I can't really do much for them; anyone can tell them that
what they need to do, but none can really reach them. I know because that's
like me.
But, those who are actually being forced to take drugs against their will, and
who feel that they are losing every last shred of their souls, I do what I can to
convince them to bust out of their confines, and escape. But, they are unwilling
to take the steps necessary, and I see them fall down the path of becoming
drones. Really gets to me.

Yeah my degree of PC is 0.975
Or you may measure it differently.

I'm too much of a chameleon
for my own good. I tend to
just take on the persona of
those that I'm around.
Well, except for bestiality comments.
I make them all the time.
-
You are supposed to. You are supposed to take on aspects of the behaviors and mannerisms of the social group you are in. The lack of ability to do this is part of the ASD conditions.
-
I don't know. There are things
that I feel I should stick up for
that I don't always. Though I
did get in a fight with a drunk
once for him complaining about
'niggers.' My rebel hat seems to
attract those kind of people.

Yes, but how do you know where to delineate between just trying to get along with people and losing something you have gained from exploring your own independence?
-

That "social competency" shit is merely an excuse to bully those who don't fit in.

lol “non aspes†generally annoy me or bore me (very pasave feelings). but aspies there is not much middle ground some times we are good friends very fast but more often I want to beet them to a pulp soon after meeting them its usualy fast and hot whaterver i feel

Most of them don’t realize there being bullies. Different just scare most people and they attack out of fear.

But, I thought we were tallking about wanting to fit in. No one can bully me if I want something. They may change my course, but I won't stop, until I decide.

Incidentally, this was part of my reasoning here (http://www.intensitysquared.com/index.php?topic=3441.msg141851#msg141851). But I was operating on the assumption you wanted to solve the problem for good, not just patch it well enough to deal with whatever's currently going wrong IRL.
Disagree that none can really reach all capable people, just some of them.

I solved it on my own for 12 years. Then things got too WRONG.
I'm trying to find another crutch/life - whatever you want to call it.
And just chatting does help, I think. But the biggest thing for me is
doing what I enjoy - which happens to be productive - rather than
trying to make myself miserable through my addictions.
-
my crutch would be my contentious and curious nature.

I'd say that's more of a strength than a crutch.

I have a tendency to take on people's mannerisms and accent if I'm around them a lot.
-
me too Pete, to a certain extent. i find people's little ways so fascinating. :P
-
What about in the other direction?
I've found buddies picking up my
traits as well. Obviously, when
people are very close this is going
to happen, but even bare acquaintances
do so.
-
me too Pete, to a certain extent. i find people's little ways so fascinating. :P
I have mentioned this in other threads, already, but that is how I learned almost everything - by just doing it and imitating others. I still do it, but my daughter is the master. She can instantly echo-back complicated emotions and imitate all the inflections of speech, even accents, to a tee. Later on you notice her "trying out" all those new "drama queen" things she has just learned, but just laughs when you call her attention to it and try to talk about it. She's too young to really know what she is doing, I think.
-
I forgot what masters of this children are.
Maybe this is all part of our 'childishness'
-
i love imitating accents and ways of speaking. i love when people have unique accents like blends or somekinda unique way of talking. and also all sorts of mannerisms. and what kinds of expressions they have and how they move and walk. i find nothing as interesting as people. that's why i love to watch TV so much, you get to watch all those fascinating people without actually having to go and get involved in anything or talk to them or nuttin. :P

-
That the community as a whole has matured and in some ways become more tight-knit. A lot changes in seven years. There are a whole lot less callouts... maybe many of the people who needed empowering are now suitably empowered? We still don't have whining kids ala WrongPlanet, but we also don't have the same degree of hostility towards any form of weakness that was happening back then. There's been space to ease up.
Administration is stricter and less tolerant of bullshit. There used to be raging debates over what, if anything, was a suitable banning offense. It used to be interesting to cause trouble. Now, not so much.
The hoopla over cliques has also pretty much died. I don't know if that's more or less empowering than when there were obvious factions.

Good link - thanks.
I don't think of this place as empowering, but more of a place I can come to let my sparks fly. Sometimes I get so charged up and other places are too PC. Somedays, I just need rubber walls. :mischief:
I lurk here on other days to see how yall are doing.
-
I think it still sometimes fills that purpose.
Most people here know each other too well now, though. The arguments are seldom heated enough and most of them have been made before by now.
-
Most of the arguments around here are old arguments that have been around before. This site is awesome, when it comes to recycling.
Part of what can be learned here is to sometimes not give a shit, when an ever returning topic shows up again. Helps dealing with similar stuff in off line life.

I just come here to shed on the furniture. :zoinks:

The probmem with "bitch boards" is that sooner or later, they begin to eat their own.
That has happened here a few times.
It's recently happened at the slymepit, with long time member Mykeru leaving after being there since the beginning.

In the past, quite a few folk. But that's not what I'm getting at.
'Tolerated' is not the in crowd. Hell, maybe with how much it's
died off, there is no such anymore - I don't bother to look
at many of the threads now to see. There sure used to be,
and that's what I was alluding to with my statement.

There's a few different personalities at least.

It's in the nature of misfitism that you won't feel at home with other misfits. :P

Hell, maybe with how much it's
died off, there is no such anymore
That sounds about right. Either that, or the whole place is in, including you.
It doesn't count as 'in' if you can't feel the warm wet balls.
Fixed. :M

We're kind of like a T group that has long been officially over but still grabs drinks together regularly.
-
I thought grabbing drinks together was the original reason for this place. :orly:
-
What's a T group? I don't suppose you mean transition.

We're more like a BS group. :zoinks:

I like tea.

I like tea.
Tea is nice. :M

I like tea.
Quit changing the subject. >:(
Odeon's right. Just admit your mitfitism fits in well at this misfitdom of misfits. :zoinks:

Oh yeah. I forgot how we always stay on topic here.
Someone ELSE brought up tea.
Odeon's right. Just admit your mitfitism fits in well at this misfitdom of misfits. :zoinks:
Not really. I fit in better in other locations.
Nothing to do with the 'inness' though. That's a different matter.
Maybe it's all dissolved actually, with the disappearance of certain
polarizing figures.

Geez, you're such a crybaby. :hahaha: Because you fit in better elsewhere doesn't discount fitting in here, and yeah, things have probably changed so you're sort of a n00b here, but those who do know you seem to be accepting. I'm glad you're back, Calandale.

I've heard about some of those seminars. I'd be grabbing a drink during the training. :fiveshots:

I prefer coffee.

After a pot or so, coffee makes me feel ill.
I can drink tea all day.
-
Do you ever drink mushroom tea?? :mushie:
-
Only peyote. Once.
-
You don't know what you're missing then, try some.
While you're at it, try some Salvia Divinorum. It might still be legal where you live.

I meant the site in general. Cal is just highly fortunate to have stumbled into being my obsession. :zoinks:

I'm used to it. No biggie.

I live for it. Now blowme.

It does, actually.

5 minutes ago?? :zoinks:

Nah. I can't afford to be drunk all the time.
-
Albertsons had 1.75L bottles of Vodka for $6.99.
You can't beat that! 8)
:fiveshots:
-
How about Absolute (same size) at 5.99. :zoinks:
I don't know what was happening, but they had a lot of their old booze on sale
earlier this year. Discontinued products and the like (in the case of the absolute -
it was just the bottle look).
I got my first taste of good rye this way (same price - smaller bottle).
