DUH!!!! That's why I'm willing to give Calandale the benefit of the doubt if he has some other plausible explanation. I posted this in a public forum for god's sake, so I it's not like I'd have been surprised if it just happenned. I want Calandale's explanation of why Alex brought up his name, though.

I know he's narcissistic - I didn't realized he had an actual DX. But I did take his side against the abuses of power that he was complaining about. In that regard, it would have been to his benefit to keep me around.

I don't have NPD, but I'm the same way. That's why I'm so pissed off about the whole thing. If Alex had just left this alone, I would have been fine with resigning because of the things I told him in that first PM.

That is the perception, yes. It is possible, however, to be narcissistic without any ego problems. It is NPD, to be specific, that is resultant, at least according to the pseudoscience that is psychology, from self-esteem issues. A hollow shell is someone who needs others to define them and make themselves feel good. Because a narcissist is always right, even though they might fail to realize they aren't, they don't need the reassurance that others also believe they are. It seems to me that, because we are so self-assured, it is thought impossible to have such a confident ego, and hence it must therefore be a front for low self esteem. I would like to point you to a couple of threads in which I've argued that it is indeed great to be a narcissist, and erroneous to assume there is something wrong with it. You'll love these. Narcissists rock.

Yeah. I had regrets for not doing so once I got banned.
But, trying to move behind the scenes in any manner more or
less is repugnant to me - I don't like hidden influence at all.
But the core was how Alex wanted the site run. I dunno really what motivated him
toward making that decision or others.
One interesting little factoid, from a much later date: when a mutual acquaintance was
supposed to come visit me, he tried to invite himself along for the road trip. :P
I think he gets obsessions with people, and that he had one both with me and Mr. Mark -

I think I've almost never expressed much desire to 'run things'.
Site politics are a different matter though. I expressed a LOT of interest
in laying down the correct procedural frameworks. Unfortunately, that drove
everyone to give up any semblance of a shared responsibility to run the site.
Honestly though, I didn't see much point to a democracy here, other than to
test out theories. Chaos served well enough to show more interesting points
in that regard actually. As does my current site (which I guess I 'run' insofar as
anyone does - I install mods and hunt down spambots).
