Thank you. Yep, there called Ammolites, from Madagascar

They have a shiller effect in them, otherwise they would be known as Ammonites

As a rock collector myself.....you never stop looking or digging.  I can't go by a rock outcrop without examining it thoroughly, especially if it's part of a pegmatite belt.  Mountain streams or rocky beaches are also great places to look.    8)

Thank you everyone. Rockhound I agree, I've been a lazy bugger these last years otherwise I'd do the same. My last adventure was in Oatman, Az looking for Fire Agate. I had a blast, now that I'm not buying them anymore I'm gonna make more of an effort to get out there.

CBC I believe Minerals are rocks with a crystalline structure. So it's not entirely wrong to call it a rock collection, since they aren't all crystals.  :zoinks:

I would say my most valuable pieces are some cut gemstones, I have a 28.23 ct  Moldavite from Radomilice, Czech Republic. Two very beautiful Nephrite Jade carvings, both green like spinach. And let's see, some others.

I'm very proud of myself. lol

I don't live in weed, I live in Mt. Shasta City. However I'm a recluse

Actually, minerals are the solid molecules that rocks are made from (feldspars, quartz, micas, pyroxene, amphibole, clay minerals, dolomite, calcite, etc...)

Love Amethyst, Amber sound several pieces at an old mine in the White Mountains of NH.  (pegmatite belt area)  I found a clear faceted fragment of quartz with an amethyst "cloud" in it.  Amber made it into a man pendant for me, in it's natural form!   8)

Yeah the Grape Agate is super cool, it's one of my favorites. It really does look like grapes! It's a pretty unusual formation of Chalcedony some people think it is Amethyst but I'm not convinced. You'd be surprised man you can afford stuff like that, I bought both those Grape agates for around $32. Just gotta have a good eye and a little bit of knowledge. Lots of fake stuff out there

It's a bit late to start now. NVM :) I had a few intersting rocks i picked up, as a kid, but they tended to somehow get lost  during house moves, along with my books (Mum disapproved of me reading all the time). And as an adult, I've endeavoured to minimise on clutter, especially the sort that  serves no actual purpose, just looks really cool. ATM, i'm very glad about that. I've had to chuck away some really useful things such as guest  bed and dining table (but not my books) which  i'll only  have to  re-buy if i get a bigger flat (as I very much hope)   cos my flat is so tiny. So definitely no room for a rock collection.

The only thing i have is a worked piece of flint that I found when digging in the back garden of my old house.  It's almost certainly a neolithic  tool, looks like a hide scraper or something like that .
They're really common round here, nothing special, but it's special when you've found it yourself isn't it :) so i'm pretty attached to it.

I'd take a photo, but I've mislaid my camera, as usual.

Interestingly enough I only have a 1 genuine Arrowhead form Missouri and a Fake one from Peru that was made for the tourist market. Real arrowheads and artifacts are pretty expensive, I'd like to get a framed collection of a group of them but thats gonna set me back at least 300 or more dollars. really good ones are like 600 bucks

I tend to move a lot so I know exactly what it's like to leave some behind,

I probably will never quit but at some point I need too. Sometimes I have buyers remorse and guilt like, I'm all "Why did I buy all this crap?"

by contrast, you can buy english flint scrapers and such for a song on ebay.  By the dozen, even. Might be better if they stayed in situ to avoid confusing future Archaologists, eh? I thought of leaving mine in situ, but what the heck, it's a drop in the oceon.

I forgot to say, i do have one more rock: a piece of marble (i think) shaped into a pyramid, for use as a paperweight (so not entirely useless, eh? ). It's special because my  (late)  Dad bought it for me as a birthday present. My Dad never bought anyone a birthday present; he left all that to Mum; but as soon as he saw this thing he thought of me, and just had to buy it for me.  And now . whenever I look at it, i think of Dad of course. And smile.

Btw, I like the "blue amber" but , err,  it's actually pink isn't it? :S

I had tons of fossils I think my mom just threw out in the garden when we moved from upstate NY.

Every other rock I picked up was a fossil of some sort up there. I used to come in the house with pocketfuls of rocks almost every day.

I did find a lot of clam fossils in the area of Cooperstown.  And there were a lot of intriguing fragments of other fossils that I had.  When I was in New Mexico I found some nice stuff like a fragment of petrified wood in in volcanic flow debris near Santa Fe.  My adopted Canadian inlaws in Alberta Canada had a ton of dinosaur fossils that they found in the nearby badlands of Drumheller.  I brought a few fragments of bone back with me that they said I could have.  They even had a piece of fossilized Dinosaur skin.   8)

SBI - Thanks man you can find those in Indonesia they are a relatively new find

Here is a Star Smoky Quartz I own. These are pretty rare https://www.facebook.com/jadeite.tiger.9/videos/392382524721100

I doubt that, you are a very serious collector!  Me, I am a scrounger and casual collector.  Though I must admit, the find of my collection is a hunk of white quartz with red, smoky and citrine crystals all over it.  You need a jewelers loop to see them as crystals.  I found it on my best friends property laying in the leaf litter and brought it home.    The rock in my avatar was found on the shores of the St. Lawrence river seaway.  It's water smoothed, deep green in color with black gemmy inclusions also very noticeable under a jewelers loop.

Nice collection.  I pick up stuff when I see it out hiking, at estate sales and I inherited some stuff.   When I was a kid the Herkimer Diamond mine was on the list of places we visited every year when we went to New York and I still have some rocks from there being the hoarder I am :green:

Nice. Welcome back. The little curly pieces. Are those fossils?
Thank you. Yep, there called Ammolites, from Madagascar

They have a shiller effect in them, otherwise they would be known as Ammonites
Thanks for this thread, Jesse. Husband prefers to make handmade gifts, but I don't, and holiday gift buying ideas have been growing a bit difficult in recent years. Already have plans for husband's gifts this year, and now ammonites and orthoceras fossils are topping the list of ideas for mine.
