Title: Sex for rent
Post by: Scrapheap on May 20, 2007, 12:44:41 PM
I heard this on the radio about 6 months ago. There have been several cases of guys advertising free rent in exchange for sex and houswork in the newspaper want-ads. The courts have tried going after themfor soliciting prostitution, but I haven't heard an update about what has happened in court.

The Defendants argument is quite simple: This is a common socila arangement that is often struck up in singles bars. A successfull man with a nice place to live simply wants a woman to have sex with and do some chores around the house. Most likely he doesn't have the time to invest in a proper relationship. The young woman is likely short on cash and is going to school or isn't making much money. The relationship allows her to finish school while having a much nicer place to live thatn she would normaly have.

Since it's perfectly legal to strike up this kind of bargian in a singles bar, what is the problem with advertising it in the paper or on the net ??

The only problem is that there are always hypocrites that don't want to have things like these done openly.

the vagina is a marketable resource.  so is a place to live.

If only I had a vagina, I could have a house, and if only I had a house, I could have a vagina.  Stupid useless penis/lack of piles of cash.

How many people here would consider such an arrangement?

So far, I only see men wanting this type of arrangement.  The question I'm wondering, in all seriousness is.........would there be women wanting the same thing from men....sex for rent.  Oh and a little housekeeping as well.  I'm just wondering...........

Apparently so, the woman gets to live in a very nice place, one that she couldn't otherwise afford, without having to pay for it.

I'ts usually rich guys who are offering so they have nice houses. The pretty young woman getrs to live there instead fo some crappy overcrowded dorm or student appartment complex.

Sounds like a good idea for the recipient of the sex....but what if the sex object has a sex object...or a boy/girl friend?

That would be interesting.

This is prostitution, i.e. offering of sex for good and services. The legal status of prostitution varies from place to place. In my state it is legal. So long as all the elements of a valid contract are fulfilled, such a contract even if made orally is considered valid.

The question is prostitution legal in the state or city this case took place? If not the contract is not enforceable.

The only doubt I have is wither a guy offering accommodation in return for sex is legal  as opposed to a woman offering sex for payment of cash.

So Victoria Beckham and her ilk are prostitutes?
I'd say there are many married women who are legalised prostitutes.

Well you could claim that, however legally this is not the case, since those are domestic agreements with no intention of creating legal relations, unlike what Scrapheap described. I was going through the legal issues involved in this.

I have to do a whole subject at university on law of contracts.

I hope the men were putting down specific contracts, 1. in case the women meet up to their end but the guys decide to kick them out arbitrarily and 2. because I'd fear it might turn into slavery.  Of course marriages carry both these risks as well, though I thinkn to a lesser dgeree.

there are many laws protecting a person from getting kicked out onto the street.  it is very difficult to do so.

so what i was thinking is that the women can simply say sure, move in, then do nothing at all.
kinda like they were married.....

but what happens when she stays for the length of time to turn them into a common law couple.  do the women get to take half the man's stuff.

To your first comment: I had a friend who was kicked out by her roommate (I think it was her roommate's family's home but I forget) because there was no contract/lease/legal agreement; I do think she had been paying rent, though.  I forget where she was able to stay instead, but it was crazy.

To your last:  How long does it take to become a common law couple?

It depends on the state, but most states do not recognize common law marriage.  Massachusetts and California do not, for example.  Alabama and Colorado do.

it's something else. Here in the US,
the government has the guns, so

I thought marriage was a sacred union not a contract.
Spirituallly or whatever, yes it is.  However, legally, you are still entering a contract.  Orally you are saying yes, I will blah blah blah you for the rest of my life...in addition to that, you sign documents stating that this promise took place a certain date and witnesses present sign also.

Even though a lot of people create their vows these days, there are certain phrases that must be said in order to make it official.
