Title: FAQ?
Post by: midlifeaspie on March 22, 2011, 07:44:48 PM
Is there an FAQ somewhere that I can peruse, or can I just start asking my dumb questions here?
Title: Re: FAQ?

Whenever I have a question, I ask Odeon or Callaway in their respective "Ask Away"-type threads.

Always thought this place needed a FAQ, as the same questions must get asked over and over. Plus, sometimes forget the answers to questions I've asked, like what all the colors mean.

The Aspie organizer in me wants a single spot - possibly over-reaching but those in charge can tell me to  :STFU: if they don't like it.

That is probably a good enough start.  Thanks in advance  :zoinks:

  • What do the different colored names mean?
  • What is an Elder?
  • Who are the Admins and Mods?
  • Why are there so many "guest" posts?

That is probably a good enough start.  Thanks in advance  :zoinks:

Black means normal member. Purple means elder. Orange means that they are featured in in the newsbox in the top right of the screen. Blue means they are the newsbox editor, and dark orange means they are a mod.

Someone who has over 500 posts and has been invited to be an elder.

Odeon is the Head honcho. Callaway, Parts and Renaedon are the mods. Sorry if I've forgotten anyone.

In the past, way before I was here they used to allow guests to post. I think that's the right answer

What is a Newsbox Feature?

Somebody who is spoken about in the newsbox, I think.

Thought the admins are red; maybe my screen. Can't remember what's yellow and there's another blue for the highway modulator. Guests could also be closed accounts.

Callaway, parts and renaeden are administrators. I am Modulator (which is like a moderator, but less serious).

There are so many guest posts because anyone who has ever had an account deleted is listed as a guest. You can see this if you look at the posts of former members.

Aren't you still the Newsbox Slave, Butterflies? Shouldn't you "know" what a Newsbox Feature is? :P

I am, but I don't know anything about "newsbox feature." I don't think I can change the colour of anybodies name. I think only the mods can change it.

Probably red then. This monitor is very old. Don't think I've ever noticed a yellow name.

  • What is the purpose of the shoutbox?
  • Does anyone ever actually use the chat?

Members usually use the chat when the site crashes (which happens often).

The shoutbox is a place for random, spontaneous comments outside of threads and PMs.

Okay, I get it now.  So then Soph, Trigger, Rage, and Duke earn the News Box Feature title.  Kewl.

How does everyone keep track of who is who considering anyone can change their name at any time?  Probably not an issue with the frequent posters.

We have a name index somewhere, but few people actually use it. Frequent posters usually remember avatars, custom titles, or who started what thread. Also, several posters have unique posting styles.

you get used to frequent posters and their style (or lack of)

another tip if you are scratching your head but think you might know who it is =

say i make a post and you are intelligent/awake enough to reply or remember what thread.  i then make another post with a different name.  if you suspect this imposter  is me..you find a thread/post that you know i definately made and you will see the imposters name and know it was me :screwy:

I have just put a lot of jokes in the newsbox because I would usually be uncomfortable with mentioning people in it. Other people who have been the newsbox slave before me have mentioned other people, and those people are "newsbox features."  It could be used to report real news, but there isn't really a lot of real news here. I have mentioned a few people in it. I have made one that congratulates Kit/League Girl on her baby, and two that show the results of polls carried out on the site. One to find out the sexiest guy on the site, whitch I think was won by Soph/Volodja, and one to find the perviest member on the site. It was won by Richardbenson. His pervy antics are the stuff of legend

No moderation here indeed, so, no mods. But, we do have our modulator to try all the perversions mod-power can bring. In a lab setting though, very safe and restricted.

At keeping track on who is who, if style doesn't give it away, I check the profile and older posts. Or, I look if it is a buddy of mine. If the name is bolded, I know who it has to be.

Buddy list there is a buddy list :dunno:

Go to your profile page.

At the bottom of the menu "Modify Profile" there is the option "edit buddies".
When you click that, you can add names of people you want to be a buddy with.

The only thing it does is that their name appears bolded in the who's online list. There are no shortcuts for sending a pm, and your buddy won't even know you made him or her your buddy.  :asthing:

So, not effective, but funny.  :autism:

Seriously, though, a FAQ would be a good idea. I'll do it, eventually.

The guest posts were indeed made by guests, if in the Free for All forum. They were allowed to post there before AtomicPsycho spammed the hell out of the board.
