who? what? when? where?

Why :zoinks:

According to one of the autism guru's we had here a few years ago, lots of people on the spectrum can't process the why question, so she thought it better to avoid it.

(she also had parts in her book that she thought were not fit for people on the spectrum to read  :duh:)

I always understand why when it's me explaining why I did something it's the other people who have a hard time :P

It's possible they avoid questions of why because someone seeking a guru is looking for someone with answers. However will admit the question of why has a certain 'I don't know what'.

Not a guru in the real sense of the word, but a person who became quite a hype with her book on how to deal with autistic kids. Some of it does make sense, but when I read the book I was mainly angry. She has been praised a lot. And partly for good reasons, but, her idea that autistic people need to be programmed in the right way, and that in that programming "why" is not a valid question, because it could derail everything, was something that pissed me off big time. Did not like the concept of having a chapter in the book that was not good for ASD people to read either. WTH.

And what was her name?!  :orly:

Her name is Collette de Bruin

She uses who, what, where, when, and how, to explain the world. In itself really practical and all. It's the way she writes about it, that got me fuming. I could see the practical impact of her approach, and that it was a better approach to look at problems with someone on the spectrum as a problem that was there for a reason. The explanation and the assumptions about autistic people she did in the side information, like saying the "why" question can hardly ever be discussed with someone on the spectrum, and the whole programming attitude that comes with it, got me get a really dirty taste in my mouth reading her book.

And the examples she used. I remember one example of a little kid seeing his Mum in tears, and he asks her what is wrong. So, his Mum tells him she has a heartache. The little boy asks if it is because of the fries Mum had eaten, and if she had taken her heart tablets.

To Collette, it was clear that this little boy had no empathy, and was not appropriately reacting to his Mum, and had no emotional connection with her either. To me, it was a story about a sweet young kid, that does not know the meaning of the word "heartache" and who is worried, because his Mum is using hearttablets.

Been a few years since I read the book. Was not a book that made me happier, despite the fact that she did have some very practically sound ideas.

Don't recall that bit in itself that well anymore. Schematic drawings about the program she proposed I think.

Yes. She is crying because of her heart and takes heart meds. If he had no empathy or emotional connection, he wouldn't have expressed concern in the first place. Easy to see your point.

People jump to such stupid conclusions. Maybe Collette de Bruin doesn't have enough  empathy  to remember that young children of all neurotypes are still learning language, and may have trouble understanding the idiomatic expressions used by adults.  :duh:

That bear person shall not be BBQ, you'd probably ruin the delicious flavours, you're better off BOILING him/her. ;D
But since she was just one of those morons, I'd probably end up throwing her in a bin or something...

Strip her naked, dip her in honey and throw her into a pit full of hungry bears. However I'm not sure her ugliness might scare the bears away though, so a paper bag may be required.

She'd find him hard to read, and would advice to put on "auti-glasses".  :asthing:

(Auti-glasses are a mind set she wrote down, that, according to her, will make it possible to read and understand an autistic person. She does not provide "glasses" for auties to understand her.)

That would be spelt 'merkle' as in 'It's a merkle' like those fuckwit evangelists keep saying.

I see some of our finest TV offerings have reached Oz.

I sleep in on Sundays, so I skip those finest TV offerings.

But, at my parents, I can't escape the hour of power.  :orly:

Do you laugh at it?  :P

Somehow, my Dad really finds something that comforts him in it. My Mum doesn't watch. So, no, I won't laugh at it there. I do join my Mum in not watching.

The final boss. Some say he's the antichrist, but thats not entirely true. He's actually the collective hivemind of all humanity. He became self aware the moment people started thinking as groups, and he became godly when the internet was concieved.

I myself, AM the internet. I'm not actually a man, but a gigantic collection of computers.

And yet, you still look so handsome.  :eyelash:

It's a miracle.
