Title: ELECTIONS!
Post by: Calandale on October 20, 2007, 05:24:50 AM
Hey, it's time to vote.
I know that many don't
make it all the way down
to the voting thread, but
if you have any desire to add input,
you should.

I'm still trying to decide who to vote for- but I agree we need more people to vote.

I've had a shitful case of apathy in general lately.  I nearly started listening to Cake, it is that bad ;)

I often talk to my food,
but it seldom replies.

The problem is Only with this election is that You need to be a Member of The World Council to Vote. ???

When it should be up to All the Membership. :police:

No you don't- all site members are entitled to vote.  Only Wc members are entitled to run for election though.

We need a better system then do WE not?

Better than allowing all members to vote and allowing those who are interested enough in the running of the site to join the WC to run for admin?  What would you suggest?

I take it he means allowing anyone to stand for election, WC or not...

I think eligibility for the WC is a reasonable
stipulation. But I can remember one case
where someone expressly did NOT want to
be a member unless elected. Though the case
made no sense to me, I think that we should
be flexible enough to allow such.

if you aren't interested enough in this place to join the world council, surely you aren't interested in being an admin?

You are assuming though that the voters are unable to judge that. Plus, what an admin actually is, to an outsider, is very obvious. Its not the same for a world council member.

if you are a member but don't bother to find out how this site works, you have no business being an admin. or a member of the world council.

It is up to the all the Membership, Kevv.  All members can vote in this election if they want to.

What's wrong with that?

But, I don't presume to understand the reasons why someone
would forgo being on the WC. It doesn't make sense to me,
and I'd probably NOT vote for someone who wasn't (without
an argument that I could understand). The one member who
expressed an interest in running, but not in joining the WC
(Nomaken) never fully explained his reasoning. Luckily, it seemed
that he was allowed to run, until he withdrew. The condition being
that he join IF elected.

One possible reason is that someone might not want to read
my political posts, without the boon of being able to play
pranks.

I don't think Nomaken was allowed to run - i did the vote count, if memory serves - but i can't be bothered to check. where's callaway when i need her?

I think you started a campaign thread for him.

Hmm...looks like I'm mistaken,
I can't find it. Don't know though,
he might have withdrawn before they
were made. Either way though, it doesn't
show any admin support for his run. Pity.
