Title: Making the rich work for their money!!
Post by: RobertN on April 23, 2006, 03:48:09 PM
I am so sick of the idle rich looking down at the rest of us as though we are dirt on their shoes. They have all had a coushy upbringing, went to private schools and had a coushy education, and then went into coushy jobs (given to them by their dads who own all the businesses) where all they do is sit on their fat arses telling everyone else what to do. I know the sort of people - I went to school with them!! >:(

Furthermore they treat us like we are a disposible machine part - just a cog in their businesses. To them, we are less than human - and that attitude rather than anything else makes me bitter. They tell us we are lazy good-for-nothings every time we unionise and try to get a better deal.

Now is time to turn the tables. I don't know why rich people are respected. They are scum. They evade tax, they commit fraud, they refuse to fund public works, they abuse people in the 3rd World, and they treat their customers and workers like shit.

If I was in power, I would first of all tax them like they have never been taxed before - just a little taster of hardship, this strange thing they have avoided all their fucking lives!! Then once their wealth had been removed, I would send them all down the mines, where they would be worked 12 hours a day just for a crust of bread. By this time, they would be wishing they had never been born. Meanwhile, the rest of us would have brilliant new public services, and nationalized industry, all paid for by taking back what is ours from the elite!

So we should become the new "evil people in power?"

No, under genuine democratic communism everyone will have equal rights and power, yes even blacks and disabled people.

Huh? What if the majority votes the communism out of existence?

Britain at the moment seems to be both socialist and capitalist.

We don't have state ownership of the means of production, but the state still tries to stick its nose into almost every aspect of people's lives, and the state controls the economy by taxing the hell out of everyone. Or rather taxing the hell out of the middle and working classes.

Because as RobertN rightly points out, the ultra-rich can get away with paying nothing, which is appalling.
But if the government can get the ultra-rich to pay taxes like the rest of us, I still wouldn't trust them to know what to do with the money.

Not you in particular, just my amorphous mental image of the rabid communists on this site. One I'm happy to have proved wrong on occasion.

i wonder sometimes why people don't do more to improve their lot in life.

i mean people look around them and see all this wealth yet they (a majority of people) lare living in the red, barely eking by, living from paycheck to paycheck.  but nobody stops to consider: who is creating all this wealth?  is it the fatcats, like robertN talks about.  or is it the people toiling away in the mines for 12 hours a day.  who when they get home have not much to show for it.
who?
who creates the wealth?
who keeps the wealth?

why aren't people more pissed off?
is it because we get to go to walmart and but our mp3 players.  or because we have grocery stores.  or because we have everything we think we want.
have we forgotten about security?  because the people living in the red and week to week don't have security.

are people contented to be used as cogs in a machine?
are we brainwashed into thinking that we are lucky?

i just don't get it, why isn't everybody pissed off that the world keeps spinning on its axis and there is wealth all around, yet a vast majority of us can barely get by on what the rich elite are so charitable to give us, each week.
and if people are pissed, then why aren't they doing something about it.

what would happen if every peon labourer, throughout the world, went on strike for one week?
what would happen if every peon in debt joined forces with each other and said, "fuck it, were not paying on these outrageous interest rate credit cards?
what would happen if every peon, throughout the world, decided that they deserved a raise.  and took it.  telling the CEO of the company, "sorry, but you don't get to give yourself a 50 million dollar bonus this year.  we worked for those profite, we earned them, we want raises with the surplus, you may still play golf, but we want the money."
what would happen?

Are you describing yourself Robert  :D

Believe me I had a hard upbringing, grew up in welfare dependant households, went to public schools etc. Do not go on about how low down the social order you are, you are a lot higher up than I am.

thank god someone brought this thread back to life.  i think it is an important subject.

teejay, he admitted that the people that he was talking about are the people he went to school with (i assume private).  that does not mean that he has no right to abhor the people who feel entitled to an unfair portion of which is produced by others 9greedy land owners, corporate bigwigs, major stock holders, etc...).

i went to private schools growing up, and i am american.  so i guess there is no better example of corruption than me.  and i make a ton of money at my job.  but i belong to a labour union.  and there is no-one more pissed off at the unfair lot that most people are dealt.  no-one fighting the corporate greed moreso than i.
don't judge him as not entitled to speak.  like the rich elite has judged you not entitled to eat.  you would be acting just like those who have oppressed you.  that is anti-productive.

but thanks for reopening this thread.

Thank you McJagger for defending my point, and thank you Teejay for reopening my thread!! Just to answer Teejay's point, I did go to a very posh private school once (only for a couple of years) and a mediocre private school for the rest of the time. Yes, I was mixing with the elite at the posh one, but I certainly was not one of them. The main reason why I got in was because of my intelligence (and a huge discount off the fees as a result). For 2 years running I was top of the year as far as grades are concerned, out of about 60 pupils. Academically, I kicked their arses a thousand times over, but the rich snobs didn't get the message. Convinced they had a god-given right to command the world, I had to leave the school due to vicious and dishonourable bullying campaign directed against me. I was accused of all sorts of things ranging from being gay to being a tramp!!! Therefore, I then went somewhere that I fitted in a little better!!!

Most of the corporate Tory-boys there were as thick as two short planks!!!

Contrasted to living in any 3rd world country, such as Africa, even living on Welfare in a 1st world country is "living the good life".

Not that that means we shouldn't try to improve our own countries as much as possible. But trying to help others and getting off of this seperatist notion of "every country for themselves" could actually make a difference. Doubt it'll happen, but hey, nice to imagine the ideals.

I consider myself an earthling and not an American and dislike this idea of "patriotism". Especially when it's a blind patriotism...

In Britain the new government are going to force the long term unemployed to do some unpaid manual labour, or charity work or risk losing their benefits. I think this is dowright nasty. I'm shocked at how nasty this goverment has turned out to be.

That is nasty as well. Some rich people are scum, just as some poor people are scum. It is just as wrong to make stupid generalizations about the rich, as it is for the rich to make stupid generalizations about the poor.

The OP sounds like a very bitter person.

I'm no expert on Communism, but I thought the point of it was that all men were equal. I can respect that view. The OP seems to want to victimize people who are rich. I don't have any respect for that.

I have no problem with the rich being expected to pay more tax. I think this government is very nasty to the poor, and is expecting them to shoulder too much of the burden of the current financial problems, while, it seems not penalizing the rich in any meaningfull way.

In the USA during the Great Depression, President Franklin Roosevelt started the PWA (Public Works Administration) and WPA (Work Project A?) to employ the unemployed.  A lot of trees were planted, parks and playrounds developed, airports and roads built, etc.  If you were an unemployed artist you painted buildings.  The unemployed received food, shelter and a stipend while the nation received infrastructure.  It kept many a man and boy in food and shelter during the Depression.

I agree about taxing the hell out of the rich...won't happen in the US anytime soon though.  >:(

The problems with taxing the hell out of "the rich" are:

First, just where would you draw the line between "the rich" and "the rest of us"?

Would you say a household that earns more than $100,000 a year should be considered rich and therefore should have the hell taxed out of them?

Let's call that our line, so that anyone who earns less than $100,000 a year pays nothing in taxes while anyone who earns over $100,000 a year pays 50% of their earnings in taxes.

Second, as someone works hard and begins to earn more money in their career and they start to approach that line, suddenly they will become much less interested in working harder to gain more money and more interested in taking time off or gaining other perks and they will become less productive.  That makes sense because at $99,999 a year they get to keep $99,999 but at $100,000 they get to keep only $50,000.

Third, people who can't avoid earning over $100,000 a year will have a substantial incentive to move to a place with more favorable tax laws and we will get $0 out of them.

Last, anywhere you draw the line, with inflation and devaluing of currency, that line between "the rich" and "the rest of us" keeps getting thinner and thinner.

now that i'm older i've left behind my liberal ways. i think taxes should be fairly distributed, and evenly applied.
however once they find a way to tax the air you breath oh they will do it. since the economy is in shambles that is
i've had the tax man come after me a few years ago over some bullshit and it was one of the scariest time of my life
virtually since money isnt really worth anything, they just want thier piece of garbage back.

give it to them,

Don't forget regional variations in income also.  Connecticut is one of the most expensive states to live in what you could live on nicely in say Iowa will get you a shitty apartment here.  Taxes need to be reformed but with common sense.

If you make poor people work doing manual labor to keep their benefits you take away jobs from the people who do that work already and get a shitty job of it to boot
