Gimp, if you want free.

Photoshop, if you don't.

Photoshop is the best i've used... some programs such as fireworks are similar but not as good, but unless you want to use the features of photoship in depth, there really isn't much of a difference between the two.

Photoshop.

PhotoImpact isn't bad though, cheaper and less of a resource hog if space and money are issues.

Have any of you ever used ImageMagick?

It's a bit different in that you either control it through a command prompt or write its instructions into a script or program.  It's great when you have to run the same operation on a large number of images.  I first found out about it when it was included as a freebie on a Red Hat Linux install CD.

If you are desperate, you could use Photobucket's editing option.

If you are desperate, you could use Photobucket's editing option.

If you just need to do simple things, like cropping, enlarging, color corrections, typical of email use or net posting, there is a really good and stable Freeware application called IrfanView, which does all that, quite nicely.

I can recommend this one with enthusiasm, for the simplest tasks. You can't patch or alter photos, though, like in Photoshop or GIMP.
