I had a connecting flight in San Francisco (AND Chicago) when I was coming back from Australia. My connecting flight was in LA on the way to Australia. I hear San Francisco is expensive...I wouldn't mind living there myself if I had the money. A teacher's salary won't be enough. :(

Yeah I think the prices there are really high :(
Especially the areas I'd want to live, but I'd live anywhere really as long as it was close
