I agree with all your points driftingblizzard.

I used to drink 2 or three times a week, with the intention of getting plastered.
It was the only way I knew how to fit in. I made an arse-clown of myself all the time, often waking up with regrets and a hangover.
I don't like to drink so much anymore, preferring to stay in control of my actions.
Drinking leads to trouble for me.

The reasons you have stated for drinking are also reasons I use other drugs.
They help socialise, to feel "normal", to lose inhibitions.
I find it easier to control my intake and my behaviour than when I'm drunk.
Every mood-altering substance has it's downsides though.
